Why does WD out of shine feel so weird?

I can wavedash regularly and OOS just fine, but after practicing waveshines for a few hours, it still feels really odd, and much more difficult. It's almost like it's not registering my L input at all sometimes, even though my controller is in good condition. Am I doing something wrong?

You are probably getting tripped up by the fact that you have to be pressing DOWN for the shine (down b) then switch to a DOWN + HORIZONTAL angle in a short amount of time. Think of it like you're doing a quartercircle forward motion like a hadouken in Street Fighter.

The muscle memory will feel weird at first because you're now doing two distinct commands instead of one (wavedash out of shield is still one command in isolation, because shield was not necessarily inputted the very instant before the wavedash).

Also, don't forget to practice on enemies. The hitstun from hitting a player completely changes the timing.
