  • You make a fair argument, and I respect your thoughts. I'm glad you decided to come and at least visit us, and your reason to stay here makes sense to some extent. However, there's no 'rivalry' between the two boards. We always tell people to come to AiB because frankly, why wouldn't you want to talk to the best players around? Why wouldn't you want to be at the place where the metagame is the most developed, and the knowledge is the most? The reason all of us say "if you come, stop posting here" is because otherwise nothing will ever change. I know you said it's not a matter of explaining the situation, but for my rebuttle to be fair, I kind of have to explain. It may sound as if we're all just a bunch of whiny losers who got our threads locked, but that's not really what happened. A lot of the threads that were closed.....deserved to be closed. But the biggest controversy was this:

There was a thread, called the Link Boards Tier List, which was the most active thread there was. It ranked people and such. One day, a mod, Buzz, walks onto our boards, sees the thread, closes it, and walks out. Naturally, we're all like "dude...whats your deal?" He said it was against the rules to have threads about people. Ok, fine, he's just doing his job. But it was our most active thread, naturally there were gonna be complaints about it. A normal mod would reply "look, I'm really sorry guys, but it's just not allowed." Buzz, on the other hand, decides to mock us, replying with remarks that end in "LOL" or "/sarcasm." Now, the mods for the Link boards before Buzz (Youko and Hylian) were perfectly fine with this thread. Buzz knew of NOTHING about Link, but just randomly decided he's boss. This caused some dislike to him, but nothing more. We all got over it pretty soon.

Some time later, another user said he had permission to remake the thread, and did so. It got closed again, by Buzz, again. Now, Buzz never told us "I PM'd this guy, and he won't tell me which mod gave him permission." He just closed the thread, again. This time, people got ticked because we felt Buzz was just now picking on us, replying to every complaint and any suggestion negatively. We tried to PM him about it, we openly complained about it, we tried to compromise, make suggestions.........nothing.

In short, we felt underrepresented because there is no mod on SWF at all that mains Link. The one guy (ArkiveZero) who was eligible to be mod and knows what he's talking about, was not listened to at all by Buzz.

Buzz is well respected among the mods - it wasn't long before Youko and Hylian went to his side. Actually, Hylian wasn't really involved at all. Youko sided with Buzz quickly though. This is where things got chaotic. You agree with me that if something that may imply an insult is said, a warning should be given first, correct? Well, these mods threw that out the window. Any, and I mean ANY little thing, got an infraction. You heard me...an infraction for saying "god this place is really losing its charm" or something like that.

Again, we have no mod representation. What can we do?

Another mod, Mic_128, eventually closed the Q&A sticky. That was pretty much the last straw. At this point, we were convinced the mods just hated us. Anything we said = infraction. Any new thread got closed (though most of them afterwards were spam anyway). Any suggestion got ignored. We were fed up. What did they say? They told us go to Forum Disputes.

So we did, and what did the admins say? "We'll look into it, and in the meantime, don't tick off a mod" AKA no help whatsoever. We argued and explained the situation in detail about the questionable policies (like handing out infractions without warning), but they wouldn't hear it. One of the users (I don't remember who) made a good point, he even had the quotes. One user directly insulted another, and was warned for it. Another user mildly insulted a mod, and got infracted for it. We argued that shouldn't the policy be universal? Why are mods exempt from these policies?

So now we're on our own, and no one who matters on SWF is helping. We turn to AiB, where at least Deva is a mod and staindgrey (a Link main) is an admin. In our time of literal desperation, the place looked heavenly. A place where all of our beloved threads would be allowed. A place where we didn't have to cower in fear about posting because of the chance of an infraction. It appealed to us.

So we moved. And when Buzz followed us there (he has no power there), did we flame him? No, we offered him friendship! We offered a truce! Did he accept it? No, of course not. You know what's ironic? The DAY we moved, Buzz got promoted to an admin. It seemed as if it were a reward for him, and really set the image that SWF hates us.

That's why we moved. That's why we always argue and fight. It was a complicated situation, and the community was literally falling apart. People were afraid to post. People who did post got infracted. And that's why we say not to post on the SWF Link boards anymore - otherwise nothing will ever change; Link will never got any mod representation, and the mods and admins will always discriminate against us.

As for the rebuilding thing, most of the stuff that chris the brawler and Linkwearsgreen have posted is incorrect =/
Just, none of us are bothering to correct them because 1) we don't post on the SWF Link boards (most of us) and 2) they don't accept our invitations for AiB

I know you care about maybe a new Link main who stumbles across this place, but believe me, there are plenty of people like myself, who still lurk the Link boards without posting. We'll be sure to let them know where Link's metagame has moved. As a final note, Link's metagame has moved to a new place. I hope you decide to go there.

Sorry for such a long post.
I see you're new to SWF and you're a Link main. I know you're part of the 'new generation of Links' and whatnot, but how about this - you come to AiB and you'll get about 5x the knowledge in about half the time. The stuff the SWF 'revival group' is discussing is where the AiB Links were 6 months ago. in short, if you wanna talk to the real Link mains who know what they're talking about, come to AiB.

If you do decide to come, there's 1 request. That is to stop posting on the SWF Link boards (any other SWF board is fine).
