HELLLO Gotham City! My my, the almighty Joker has been captured by the Riddler. My how the mighty have fallen. He's the clown of Gotham's criminal population considering he got caught by the Riddler. I bet Gotham City feels much safer for now considering the Joker is out of commission for now. But Riddler, I do want to be sure that what you say is true about you capturing the Joker. Can you get him to talk for us? Joker, would you please mind telling the folks at home why you so desperately want me dead? Frankly, I'm surprised that Catwoman was caught stealing from a gas station. I thought she was smarter than that. I guess not. Croc, I'm not surprised that he got arrested considering the Joker played him for a fool. I doubt that anybody would be foolish enough to try to rescue them. I'll be sure to play them a song on the World's smallest violin. I read Mr. Knox's story about me and I find it very...amusing. Unfortunately he keep's getting my name wrong. I'll tell you who I am and you'll be surprised too. I am the famous Bruce Wayne! But you can just call me the Penny Plunderer. This isn't the last you'll hear outta me. That I can guarantee you, citizens of Gotham. Good day.

Whoever this Riddler is, he must be one handsome genius.

It looks like the Joker has gotten himself into the hands of the police. Soon, at least.

The Joke's On You By Vicki Vale

In a rare move, The Joker poses for a reporter.

What do the Joker and a dumpster have in common? No, its not fashion sense, though by the reports we've gotten from eye-witnesses, that wouldn't be too far off. Yes, the answer is that they both can be found behind bars! The maniacal serial killer known only as the Joker, who is responsible for deaths of upwards of fifty innocent citizens and police officers and setting off an explosion in the rear of the Gotham City Police Department Headquarters, has finally been apprehended by the authorities. You can bet that the police have absolutely no comment to make on the arrest, but that won't stop the Gazette. Of course, our first thoughts turned to our vigilante hero the Batman, and my sources in the GCPD suggest that we're likely not far from the truth. In fact, the latest story is that the Riddler, an enigmatic independent who claimed to have captured the Joker, helped in handing the villain over to the authorities.

You will remember only yesterday, when the Riddler interrupted Rupert Thorne's press conference for his mayoral bid, stating that he knew the ever-elusive identity of the Batman and that whoever could solve his riddle would share in the secret. It is safe to say that the Batman did solve this riddle, and the Riddler has kept good on his word to continue to keep the secret. Gotham's own daylight hero District Attorney Harvey Dent had respectful remarks to say about the arrest of the Joker and their business with the Riddler. "So far, the Riddler has shown himself capable of helping this city in ways that the police, and perhaps even the Batman, have not been able to replicate," he stated. "I think it would be completely appropriate to honor him for his service."

Well, with the Joker now behind bars instead of causing chaos in the streets, I think we all agree that we owe this mystery man our thanks. If we've learned anything from the vigilante antics our own Batman, however, the real question is how long will we be able to trust this new character?

Batman Gone Bad? By Tom Tucker

A recent photograph snapped of the vigilante known as Batman.

The hero versus menace debate is often fought with bared teeth, but an interesting new development may yet prove the deciding factor.

A dockworker for Lau Shipping Limited, who chose to remain anonymous, has claimed that the Batman has not once, but twice come to his workplace in Tricorner Yards and committed baffling assaults.

The first time, he assaulted three men seemingly at random, hospitalizing two before taking the third across the city and tying him to a precinct's front door. The second time, the Batman allegedly strode right up to workers loading up a barge and attacked without even a preceding conversation. The attack left one man deceased before any paramedics could arrive, with a severely fractured skull.

Even more disturbingly, the source confirmed that the Batman then drew a handgun, something unseen as yet, and demanded that the approaching workers hand over their wallets, citing this as the "only way to pay for his deeds." As he was leaving, he was accosted by a Port Authority guard, whom he bested and kidnapped. The guard's name is confirmed as Ian Holman, and he is still missing.

If you have any information whatsoever, please call in to Crimecrunchers. Be warned, do not pursue the Batman. These assaults all have one thing in common, and that is their reckless brutality. Something is rotten in Gotham City, and it might just have been the apple of our eye.

Explosive Terror in the Heart of Gotham By Alexander Knox

Early last morning, Midland Engineering's research and development building was rocked by an explosion. Information from a source inside the company paints a terrifying picture of the scene. The explosion was caused by a bomb, smuggled into the building by persons unknown. The blast was not powerful enough to do much damage outside the building, but its effects on the inside were horrendous. It caused the near complete collapse of the structure, as well as dozens of deaths. So far, no survivors are known to have survived the explosion.

Midland Engineering did not notify the police of the incident. It is unknown why they didn't inform the police, or why the bomber launched this attack. The research that was being conducted in the building is, at this point in time, a complete mystery. Therefore, there is almost no way what organization or individual might have been behind the bombing. However, it seems far too precisely targeted to be a simple act of terrorism.

"Holy crap on a crap-doodle."

"That about expresses our feelings, albeit crassly, here at WGN, the Cool Breeze. What a night for news!"

"The Joker's caught! The Bat is bad! It's all upsidedown, baby!"

"I don't know about the Batman being bad..."

"You read the paper."

"I'm more surprised every day that you do, honestly.

Anyway, here's a little tune for the Joker, dedicated to you by us here on WGN. And with that in mind.... call in! Let's Shoot the Breeze(tm)!"

Hi, first off I gotta say that I'm a big fan of your show. Secondly, I would like to express my opinion on the recent Batman news. I gotta say, him using guns on people doesn't seem to fit his MO nor does beating up innocent people. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that this Batman isn't the same Batman we've seen kicking Croc's ***. Yes, I'm saying that there may very well be two Batmans. As for the Joker, I laugh at him so hard that I almost peed my pants. He was the one who wanted to get the Penny Plunderer dead yet now he's rotting in jail. Oh the delicious irony. It tastes so good, the only thing that may taste better than that is the Joker's tears. Anywho, I would like to dedicate this song to our viewers at home.

GOTHAM TONIGHT:

MIKE ENGEL: "Welcome to Gotham Tonight. As always, I'm your host, Mike Engel.

Tonight we've got a special guest with is... GCPD's head of the Major Crimes Unit, Captain Jim Gordon. Welcome, Captain."

JIM GORDON: "Thank you, Mike."

MIKE ENGEL: "You've been a busy man. According to the news you have... five arrests to your credit, and that's not including another six from various criminal underlings.

How do you manage such a massive job?"

JIM GORDON: "Well, first of all, I obviously don't handle everything myself. I have many brave men under me that work hard to bring in these criminals."

Gordon seems to think for a moment.

JIM GORDON: "As you also know, The Batman has been bringing in quite a few criminals to me as well."

JIM GORDON: "I also have many detectives that help investigate crime scenes and find criminals."

MIKE ENGEL: "I don't care for your collaboration with the Batman. Even if it is incidental. But I'll speak on that more later.

I hear there's been a recent commotion near Blackgate Penitentiary."

JIM GORDON: "Well, yes."

JIM GORDON: "A few hours ago we got some reports of a man in a port authority uniform, shooting down cops. So my SWAT officers and I drove down there, eventually arresting the man after pelting him with tear gas."

JIM GORDON: "He put up quite a fight. But anyways, he seems to insist that he is batman. We are lead to believe that he could have been the man behind the supposed "Batman assaults" the other day."

MIKE ENGEL: "You don't think it could have been the Batman?"

JIM GORDON: "Oh, it certainly could have, for all we know. This man is just another suspect."

MIKE ENGEL: "You caught another man today. He called himself the Penny Plunderer. What happened there?"

JIM GORDON: "Well, I got a call from one of my cops that Lincoln Jarvis -- That's the Penny Plunderer -- was out in the open. I rushed over there with a few cops. It was a rather bloody fight - We lost a detective and a cop, and I even had a few wounds myself."

JIM GORDON: "We did catch him however, and that should be the end of that."

MIKE ENGEL: "Ah, I suppose that's what that's from."

He points to a stitched up wound on Gordon's neck.

MIKE ENGEL: "And what are your comments on the Catwoman and Killer Croc arrests? We were unable to reach you at the time."

JIM GORDON: "Well, the catwoman arrest was quite uneventful. We followed her to a truck stop where we made a quick arrest."

JIM GORDON: "The killer croc's was a bit strange, as we merely found him near sewer entrance, handcuffed. I'm not entirely sure what happened there."

MIKE ENGEL: "You just found the Croc? Is it possible that this was an illegal arrest by the vigilante Batman?"

JIM GORDON: "It could have been, yes."

MIKE ENGEL: "And you think that's fine? That some citizen is -- or was -- out there doing whatever they like?"

MIKE ENGEL: "Breaking the law?"

JIM GORDON: "I didn't say it WAS batman, I said it could have been, and that we are investigating it."

JIM GORDON: "It isn't fine, no, but I have reason to believe that Killer Croc commited two murders in that sewer, which we are also investigating."

MIKE ENGEL: "If I can move back to the Penny Plunderer for a moment."

MIKE ENGEL: "You said his name was Lincoln Jarvis? But late last night there was a call in to WGN from the same man, who clamed to be Bruce Wayne, of all people. What were your thoughts on this?"

JIM GORDON: "Yeah, I've head about his prank calls. Very odd for sure. Not sure why he'd pretend to be bruce wayne, among other people. I can certainly try to find that out in questioning."

MIKE ENGEL: "Well, it's certainly perplexing. Now to the real heat of things... the Joker."

MIKE ENGEL: "A few days ago you nearly caught him, but he escaped. How does it feel, having arrested the worst violent criminal in American history?"

JIM GORDON: "Well, what can I say? It's definitely a good thing for the people of Gotham, having such a killer behind bars. It's a big step toward cleaning this city up."

MIKE ENGEL: "One may consider the man the most dangerous inmate you have in custody at the moment, with the possible exception of the Batman.

Have there been any special precautions for dealing with these especially dangerous criminals, particularly the Joker?"

JIM GORDON: "Well, we have solitary cells, cuffs and leg irons. For especially dangerous criminals I do have a few cops waiting at the doorway, just to check on them and make sure they aren't trying to make any escapes."

MIKE ENGEL: "I'm sure our viewers feel a lot safer, hearing that.

Has there been any progress on identifying the Joker?"

JIM GORDON: "Not as of lately. We've had our hands full since we brought him in, with Jarvis and the events at blackgate."

MIKE ENGEL: "Understandable.

On the other end of the spectrum, how do you feel about District Attorney Harvey Dent? For a freshman DA, he's got quite the task ahead of him. Is he up to it?"

JIM GORDON: "I believe that Mr.Dent is well qualified for his position. I've talked with him personally, and he seems like a very intelligent man."

MIKE ENGEL: "There are people who say he could usher in an era where we don't need Batman.

With the recent Blackgate fiasco, I'm glad to hear it. I hope to believe in Harvey Dent soon.

But weirdos like the Joker, to put it bluntly, have a good case for insanity. Do you think he can get them in Blackgate, where they belong? The last thing we want is a meltdown at Arkham Asylum and these people running amok in our streets once more."

JIM GORDON: "I honestly am not entirely sure if the joker is insane. It would certainly explain a lot. I believe that if he can be safely contained in blackgate, then he should be there."

MIKE ENGEL: "Even if he is mentally ill?"

JIM GORDON: "Honestly, I believe that he should be in Blackgate regardless, as Arkham Asylum has notoriously poor security. It is more important to keep the joker locked up and not risk any more civilian deaths."

MIKE ENGEL: "His lawyer will no doubt argue that his rights should pervade pragmatism. I hope Dent can convince them of otherwise.

I mentioned a Gotham without Batman. Do you think this can happen? Do you think you're up to the task of defending this city as it should be -- lawfully, and not by outlaws?"

JIM GORDON: "I believe that should Batman be unable to fight crime, that I would be able to continue protecting the people of gotham, however difficult it may be."

MIKE ENGEL: "I hope we can keep pushing for a Gotham City free from the tyrrany of Batman. But that's Dent's job, now, not yours. Glad to hear you can take up a lawful mantle.

And what are your thoughts on this enigmatic Riddler? The paper and even Dent suggested him as another sort of Batman... and yet he's kidnapping people? Solving the identity of criminals like the Batman and not coming straight to the police? What do you make of him, and what are you going to do about him?"

JIM GORDON: "Well, if given the chance I would arrest this man for questioning, as with batman. I can't imagine he has good intentions if he would deliberately hold information from the police."

MIKE ENGEL: "I couldn't agree more. Especially on a man who later endangered dozens of police men when cornered."

MIKE ENGEL: "Well, Captain, I'm afraid we're out of time. I hope to speak to you again, sometime, perhaps when Gotham is out of this dark spot."

JIM GORDON: "I'd be happy to any time, Mike."

Engel turns toward the camera.

MIKE ENGEL: "Be sure to tune in tomorrow night, when we plan to get a hold of DA Harvey Dent and ask him about his present mammoth of a caseload."

I would like to stand by my previous statement of our need for the masked vigilante in our city. As legal as Mr. Gordon was expected to be because of his job, in the interview it is clear that he knows the Batman is a surge of defense and hope to our city of despair. While the law and politicians must be coy behind their speech, I do not suffer such similar impediments. So, thank you Batman for being the man that many of us - all of us - refuse to be.

Though I would also like to personally thank you, Mr. Gordon. The ruffian who assaulted my docks was a most foul beast and I am glad he is imprisoned well within the law of the land.

Justice For All By Vicki Vale

A cameraphone shot taken by a passerby that noticed the scuffle near Blackgate Penitentiary. Alas, no facially identifying shot could be produced.

Take a moment to appreciate what you are about to read. Let it sink in: the Batman has been arrested.

Granted, the authorities have given little information to the public; the details of the arrest that we at the Gazette have gathered come from a vast array of reliable sources, each willing to shed only a sliver of light on the issue. No name has been provided for the arrest records. He is being described solely as extremely dangerous, and is being held at an undisclosed location.

The Batman was allegedly arrested just on the mainland near Blackgate Penitentiary. There was a lengthy chase, and when the suspect was cornered and could no longer escape, he seemed instead to try to maim and injure as many officers as he could, including Police Chief Gordon himself, who managed to help bring him in unscathed. Unusually, the Batman was not costumed, but upon his arrest the man apparently proclaimed himself as such, rather than offering a name -- and if he held an entire strike force at bay, we believe him.

Earlier in the night, the Batman, dressed in a Port Authority uniform, had brought in a man in a prison uniform to Blackgate, and said that he had found him running along the coast. One of the policemen called to the final scene commented in a brief interview that the precincts in the Gotham area had been given a photograph of one Ian Holman, the Port Authority officer who had been kidnapped by the Batman only recently. When the policemen recognized that the "prisoner" that the Batman had turned in was actually the hostage Ian Holman, they recognized who they were dealing with and began to subtly escort him to a police car. When the Batman then in turn realized his situation, he attacked the two men. The one who was kind enough to accept the interview was badly beaten; his partner is now dead from a gunshot to the chest.

Police Commissioner Loeb would not comment. Police Chief Jim Gordon, who appears to have been a pivotal player in the chase and the successful arrest, refused to comment. After being tapped for a comment, even District Attorney Harvey Dent also refused to comment.

The Gotham police have had an outstanding warrant out for the Batman's arrest for quite some time, and public opinion of the vigilante figure often wavers. Yet recently, the Batman's actions have forcefully crossed over the thin line between justice and crime. We can only assume that he is now being interrogated and processed for destruction to property, larceny, resisting arrest, assaulting multiple police officers, and several counts of murder.

The Faraway Tree Killer By Stanton Kiel

The Holiday Inn's winter tarp proved a factor in the death of Ike Baer.

Police are involved in an ongoing investigation in a new series of serial murders. There have been five victims so far.

The first victims were Garth and Miriam Phyllice, found in a pile, necks broken in their own home yesterday. Garth was a portfolio manager under investigation for fraud. On the wall police found the words "WELCOME TO THE LAND OF DO-AS-YOU-PLEASE."

The next victim was Ricky Rike, a famed criminal attorney. He was found in his office with his throat slit yesterday. This murder and that of the Phyllices would not be linked were it not for the same message being left at the scene.

The final two were Ike and Melinda Baer. Mr. Baer was found severely dead in the pool of the hotel he was staying in. Again on the wall it was written "Welcome to the land of do-as-you-please." Chillingly, the writing was Mr. Baer's own vomit and blood. Mr. Baer was a primary school teacher under trial for over a dozen counts of sexual interference with a minor.

Melinda Baer was found in her own foyer, with her throat cut. Police say this murder took place before that of her husband's, though the body of Mr. Baer was found first. And again at the scene was the familiar phrase.

Ricky Rike was representing Ike Baer in his case, but police have found no connection between those individuals and the Phyllices.

This killer has been dubbed "The Faraway Tree Killer" because the phrase he leaves at the scene is the title of a book in the series of children's novels, The Faraway Tree. The series, and particularly the phrase The Land of Do-As-You-Please is also noted for being referenced in Alan Moore's graphic novel V for Vendetta.

Daring Daylight Assault By Alexander Knox

The scene as found by paramedics and firefighters who first responded ot the explosion, shortly before the supports caved completely. Luckily, no emergency staff were inside at the time.

The Pike Manufacturing plant, located in Western Gotham's dark red district, has suffered a devastating attack. Late in the morning, multiple attackers began their assault on the employees of the plant. Some were shot at range with a rifle, while others were executed at point blank range. So far, twelve bodies have been recovered, with eight others presumed dead. The attackers stole two trucks, and possibly other materials from the plant. They then proceeded to drive another truck through the Southern plant wall, smother it with gasoline, and light it on fire, creating an explosion that engulfed the entire building.

This attack follows close on the heels of the unexplained explosion at Midland Engineering, and the motives behind the horror this time are just as unclear. What is clear is that these industrial attacks are being carried out by a group of people, and that they are a quickly growing problem in Gotham. A problem which, so far, the police have been helpless to combat.

Waiting for you to slip up.
I must comment on the question prosed by the article by Tom Tucker:

As a citizen of this fine city, I must admit that this atrocity has proven that no matter who is behind bars, the ratio of criminals to law-abiding citizens is a 3 to 1 odds.

Batman, this city needs you- not some corrupted police organization with more moles than a overly-self conscious sophomore, not some dainty lawyer with a nice $450 suit, and not some empty promises of "safety" and "criminal-free city."

No, this place needs a protector. Someone who is not chained by the shackles of morality, someone who is not above the law, but IS the law, we need someone who can put them away for GOOD.

Batman, without you, this place will go down in an inferno of vice. Millions will die because of some pasty-face clown, a weak Chinaman, some leather-neck Steve Irwin reject, or some burglar with a financial plan a BUM would scoff at.

That's to you, Penny Plunderer, and to all you killers, burglars, and rapists.

The Knight is watching you, waiting for his chance to strike. And when he does, he will bring the wrath of all the sins you've done- he will be the hammer of the Lord, the almighty sentinel of justice; he will be what the Gotham Police nor District Attorney can never be.

He will do more to you all then you care to think about. He will not stop until every single one of you are dead or behind bars for life. And do not doubt that you will not beg. You will scream for mercy, even YOU, Bane.

And I'll be watching with a smile, to see him take down all of you.

You think you own this city? A man in black does, not a puppet in a suit.

He will find you- he will capture you.

HE. WILL. END. YOU.

- Mr. "JFK" Roswell

Good evening, Gotham, as always I'm your anchor Mike Engel, and today I'm a bit more pleased to call myself a resident of this city.

With the possible arrest of Batman and confirmed arrest of the Joker, I think we can all breathe a quick sigh of relief -- but don't prolong it. We are a long way to being properly safe.

Sources, mostly civilian eyewitnesses, have confirmed that an escape attempt was set in motion by a captured criminal at the Major Crimes Unit. An onlooker manage to get the following footage from a cameraphone -- forgive the poor quality.

You see a large man bumbling around a wall of SWAT vans. He charges head first int a SWAT team that fires on him from the front, at which point up to a dozen SWATs start dogpiling him, trying to gain control of him. He casts them away like children.

You see a man in an overcoat leap from one of the SWAT vans and charge as the SWATs back off. The man in the overcoat opens fire repeatedly into the large man's back as the latter lifts a manhole cover and tosses it aside. The SWATs also open fire. Finally, the large man collapses.

The many officers cuff him and drag him over and into a SWAT van, which puts its siren on and starts to bolt down the street. The cameraphone follows it.

Shocking stuff. But at least our finest are hitting hard against these criminals, and showing them that we won't tolerate it.

As always, feel free to phone in with your thoughts, Gotham. Be heard.

Mad Croc Put Down By Vicki Vale

Barely submitted in time for press, a mesmerizing photo of Kurt Tessle, the "Killer Croc" in his final seconds of life as snapped by a panicked pedestrian.

In what is now unraveling into a dramatic tale of cursed fate, the criminal monster known as the Killer Croc has been killed. Only a few days ago was Croc apprehended by the Batman and left to be picked up by the Major Crimes Unit, but even then his tale was one of questionable motive; when he was found cuffed in the street, he was filled with rage. Atavistic rage to be exact, as it turns out he suffered from a terrible disease that caused him to mutate into the insane creature that will be remembered with fear.

Kurt Tessle had no identification upon arrest, but his name was confirmed via his abnormally unique dental records. At the time of death, Croc was almost seven feet tall and estimated at near three hundred and fifty pounds of massive muscle. His appearance was dominantly defined by his thick skin, which eye-witness reporters remark could withstand bullets like nothing that had been seen before. "He could just... take bullets. Better than anybody else ever could, at least," remarks one of the brave men who took part in the response operation to bring him down.

Croc apparently escaped his cell through the ventilation system, though many of the details remain undisclosed for the purposes of the MCU's security. However, once outside of the complex, he was met with lines and lines of Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team members who opened fire. When bullets did little to phase Croc, the SWAT police began to jump on him. Croc cast them off of his person as he made a break for the sewers, before he was out-gunned by the ever-growing hero, MCU's own Captain Jim Gordon. Sources at Gotham General hospital report that Croc was "shot to hell", having been riddled with bullets before being loaded into a van by authorities and delivered to the emergency room. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

The crimes that Croc committed were horrendous for sure, but was he truly a villain? Driven to murder by animalistic madness, must we really couple him with the likes of the Joker, who seemingly kills for insane sport? "I'm sure that he must have had a difficult life," remarks District Attorney Harvey Dent. "Nonetheless, the crimes he committed were inexcusable, and he paid the ultimate price for them."

Plague Doctor Kills Criminals, Saves Hostages By Alexander Knox

An artist's rendition of the 'Plague Doctor'

After the recent capture of the Batman by the Gotham City Police, it seems that another vigilante has sprung up to take his place. Judging from his first appearance, his tactics are even more brutal than those that were employed by the Batman.

By ten o'clock, Cathleen Clowes was the only employee left in the Last Drop liquor store, located in Crime Alley. Three men burst in, and proceeded to attempt to rob the store. Clowes managed to set off the silent alarm, and police arrived on the scene within minutes. When they arrived, however, there was little they could do. The men had taken Clowes hostage, and had denied any contact with police negotiators. This standoff lasted for over thirty minutes.

Suddenly, police saw Clowes exiting the building, visibly shaken. She claimed that a man, dressed in clothing like the medieval plague doctors, had somehow entered the building, shot all the criminals and freed her to escape. She told reporters that this "Plague Doctor" had rushed into the room, immediately killing one of her captors. He threw a flashbang grenade towards the other, blinding both herself and the man holding a gun to her head. By the time she regained her senses, all the men had been shot.

When police entered the building, they found the three men. Each man had one hand painted black. There was no sign of the Plague Doctor. Any results of their investigation have yet to be released to the press.

Clowes is unharmed, although clearly disturbed by her ordeal. The would-be robbers were not so lucky. Two of the men are dead, while the third is in intensive care at Gotham General.

The fate of the Plague Doctor is unknown.

Gargoyles Send Packers Packing By Stanton Kiel

Fan Favorite Bruce Ironstaunch celebrates one of his momentum-killing safeties.

The Gargoyles won again tonight, beating Green bay 37-31.

Green Bay's starting quarterback, Matthew Scavin, was practically absent from the field as his temperament has lately dictated, and they were forced to go to second string. Bruce Cooper completed nineteen of twenty-seven passes for four touch downs and one hundred and ten yards. If one thing is certain, the game's loss does not rest on the oft-benched tosser's shoulders.

Bruce Ironstaunch was the man of the day again, fully recovered from his injury and delivering crushing tackles left and right to the opposing team, not least of which including momentum-killing safeties deep in Green Bay's goal zone. This great defensive work set the tone for the game by opening up the scoring, and Gotham had nothing but skillful offence and dominating defence from the first quarter to the fourth.

The Gargoyles look good going into the playoffs. Their next opponent is Detroit, who have yet to win a game this season, and tickets are selling fast as local fans hope to watch their team contribute to an infamous piece of football history.

Good afternoon, Gotham. Mike Engel, reporting to you live.

Hot on the heels of last night's incident, it seems someone has already been inspired by the late Kurt Tessle to attempt an escape from police custody. Little is publicly available. At present, we merely know that someone had escaped police custody and lead a long chase across our black district, where it appears the driver may have been shot by a GCPD sniper, and the vehicle crashed over the Nile Avenue boulevards and into the Sprang River.

Watch here as a fisherman shows his shocking footage of the event:

The icon behind Engel takes up the entire screen.

Electrifying.

GCPD officials have been incredibly tight-lipped about exactly who had escaped, and why. But we here at GCN have done some diligent investigating, and we have determined that the escapee may be from the Major Crimes Unit headquarters. It is uncertain at this time who the fugitive was, however, employees at the nearby Burnbank Trading Center reported that a man in a police uniform brandishing a carbine assault rifle crashed through the window of their top floor office and told them to get out of his way because, quote, "The Batman is after me."

The man is said to have taken a stairwell to the second floor before leaping through a window once more and leading police in a chase right across the middle island. Both MCU's Captain Jim Gordon and Gotham's District Attorney Harvey Dent were unwilling to comment on the status of the fugitive, his or her identity, and from where and how he or she had escaped.

We'll have more details as we come across them. As always, call in, Gotham! In times like these, the city needs your voices.

The Night of Do-As-You-Please By Vicki Vale

Above: The GCPD chopper spirals out of control above the red district's dockyards.

Since last news day, the Faraway Tree killer has upped the ante on his kill count. As his spree continues into the strikingly high numbers, his modus operandi has been solidified: kill bad men, no matter how many good people die in the process.

Two days ago, after printing, the Faraway Tree killer went on a rampage through the Vodka restaurant that left several customers, a waiter, a busboy, and a police officer dead. As always, at least one of the deceased, and seemingly the target of the spree, was a criminal: a large Russian man named Vital Kaselka, thought to be involved in human trafficking.

Last night he struck again, adding another thirteen victims to his kill-count. Early in the evening, police were called to the Goalzone sports betting advisory firm. MCU's Captain Jim Gordon and his squad responded personally to the reports of a major disturbance and escalating hostage situation, phoned in by Aurianne Williams, a receptionist at Goalzone. Ms. Williams was killed in the events that took place, her body found outside an upstairs office. Inside, two more corpses were founded under the giant message, "Welcome to the land of do-as-you-please." One of the bodies was identified as Hef Aroza, an odds picker at Goalzone. The second, unusually, was Omar Shakur. Shakur was the manager of Goalzone several years before, but was released when he was arrested and charged with running a sports gambling ring using Goalzone as his odds calculator. Roland Gambol, who owns the business, was co-accused, but the charges were dismissed. Shakur was found guilty and sentenced; he was paroled just last year. It can be assumed that he was the killer's target, but he was not the final casualty.

The Faraway Tree killer came down the stairs as the first responders, Officers Patrick Eeyore and Tom McAndrews, arrived. He gunned them down quickly, proceeding to kill three more employees, Delilah Amore, Michael Felz, and LeRhonda Jameson, on his way out the back door. He then shot his way up the fire escape, fatally injuring Officer Omis Marsh, and disappeared. Ashley and Richard Love, whose apartment the killer apparently came through during his escape to the rooftop, were shot repeatedly at point blank range. An armed helicopter was then called in to dispatch the killer, who matched firepower with the chopper team for a short period of time.

Pedestrian reports confirm that the Faraway Tree killer then leaped into the chopper in an attempt to commandeer the vehicle. Faraway Tree killed Sgt. Hando Phillips, a police sniper on the helicopter team, and Corporal Evan LeChiffre, another member of the team. The pilot, Lieutenant Zachary Baer, survived the incident. He offered no comment on what transpired beyond confirming that FTK had hijacked the chopper and killed the other two men. As the chopper took off away from the building, seemingly in the control of the killer, a single grappling hook shot through the night and wrapped around a landing skid... and as the chopper accelerated away, it pulled the Batman into the air behind it. It should be noted that the last we heard of the Batman, he was apprehended and sent to prison at Jim Gordon's Major Crimes Unit.

Details now become sketchy as the chopper headed southwest, however it ended up flying above the red district, where civilians gathered en masse to watch the chopper head wildly right on past the docks and over the water. As the copter approached a cargo ship that had recently left port, two bodies suddenly fell out of it and into the air. The Batman subdued the Faraway Tree killer midair before the killer broke the vigilante's grip and streamlined off towards the water. Before he could get far enough away, however, the Batman shot a grapple rope at his foot and suddenly parachuted up into the air and proceeded to glide back towards the land.

The crowd cheered as their hero neared the port again, before the killer loosened out of the rope and dove into the water. The killer hijacked a fishing boat and attempted to escape, but the Batman simply followed him through the air and landed on the new getaway vehicle. They tussled on the moving boat when suddenly, a gunshot was heard. A white lick of light expelled from the fighting silhouettes and the Batman was thrown clear off the boat and into the water, never to resurface.

Yet as the killer's small boat headed to the cargo ship, it suddenly veered off course and smashed into the rocks. Multiple witnesses insist they saw all hands go under with the boat and current. As the mysterious cargo ship was finally forced to dock, Jim Gordon and his SWAT teams arrived and stormed the ship.

The Gazette's sources have uncovered little more than the name of the Faraway Tree Killer: Henri Ducard is of background unknown and French nationality. He has no American citizenship, though he is noted as having flown in to Gotham overnight on October 27th from Paris. Parisian authorities could not be reached for comment in time for press.

On the subject of Ducard, Jim Gordon had absolutely no comment for the press other than to maintain a safe distance. District Attorney Harvey Dent's only comments were of warning; "If you see him, avoid any kind of confrontation and inform the police as soon as possible."

On the even more elusive subject of the Batman, one may remember that Gordon had refused to comment on the recent high-profile arrest of the vigilante figure. No official statement has been made regarding yesterday's violent, high-speed chase and escape of an unknown inmate from MCU. Was that the Batman? Did he escape from imprisonment only to turn around and proceed to again protect the city of Gotham? While Captain Jim Gordon insists that "Batman did not escape today. I can tell you that," the pieces seem to fit perfectly.

If the both Kurt Tessle, also known as Killer Croc, and the Batman both escaped custody at the MCU, couldn't the Joker? If Ducard was able to successfully slip through the hands of the police, how safe are we? And worse yet, did the Batman ever resurface from the water? Only time will tell.

Enclosed are photographs of Henri Ducard, the Faraway Tree Killer, among other police issues. Please regard them in full.

Above, left: A police composite sketch of Ducard, released to press late last night.
Above, right: A chopper-cam photograph displays Ducard sporting an unusual gas mask.

Bat Flies From Belfry By Alexander Knox

The present mugshot of the as yet unidentified "Batman"

The man suspected to be the Batman is rumored to have escaped from police custody earlier yesterday morning. Although Captain Gordon is being suspiciously tightlipped about the vigilante's possible escape, anonymous officers who were present at the time of the escape were less news shy.

Apparently, the suspect, managed to get himself out of his cell by faking an illness. Despite being handcuffed and lacking any kind of weapons, he overpowered the four guards escorting him to the GCPD doctor while they were riding the elevator. He then began his ascent up the elevator shaft, and onto the roof of GCPD headquarters. He chose to avoid police by freerunning across the nearby rooftops until a police helicopter forced him back to ground. After stealing an unattended car, the suspect led police on a chase before finally plunging the car into Sprang River.

Although the mysterious escapee has not yet been confirmed to be alive, there's no reason to think he's dead yet. Sources on the police force testify that no body was found in the sunken car. All told, during his escape the unnamed fugitive caused the death of two policemen, and incapacitated many more.

Whether or not he truly is the Batman, it is a very dangerous man that the police force has allowed back on Gotham's streets. Police are asking for any information if you are to see or encounter this man.

Don't Say a Word... By Tom Tucker

Above: Dalton Smith as seen in the hospital

Police are intrigued by the story told by a brave young woman named Norah Seger who came forward with a harrowing tale.

Just after eleven o'clock last night, she exited a vacant L-Train at a station near the Old Gotham neighborhood and proceeded to head toward her apartment building. However, as she explained through shallow breaths, she found herself being followed from the train station by three young men dressed in spikes and chains, the attire known to the small Wild Skeleton street gang. She mentioned an escalation of cat-calls that made her feel increasingly uncomfortable.

The men followed her into an alley as she started to move faster, but she soon found herself in a puddle after one of her heels snapped in a sidewalk crack. The men approached her, one of them brandishing a knife.

But as she looked up to her attackers, something very interesting indeed would happen.

"It was unreal. I looked up, and I just saw these arms come out of the shadows, and they grabbed the one at the back. The big one. Then a hand came up to his jaw and... well... crack!"

At this point, she reported, the second of the men turned, brandishing his switchblade and twirling it with great skill. However, as he lashed forward with the knife, she said "it just gets stopped by the hand. And another one reaches out and pulls him into the darkness and just, wraps around his head and..." Seger shakes her head in stupefication. "He came out of the shadows then. I saw him. He was tall, built, and he had... like, bandages wrapped around his face and head."

The third man had left her alone and picked a plank from the alley to defend himself. However, before he could assault the bandaged man, he was pulled into a powerful strike, and there were more where that came from. The bandaged assailant then broke his arm at the elbow and put his mouth to the would-be rapist's ear to utter a single word: "Hush."

He then slammed the man into the wall hard enough to break several ribs, his jaw, and knock out enough teeth that police needed evidence bags to collect them just before press time. The bandaged assailant then instructed Ms. Seger to leave However, the man was upgraded from critical to serious condition after being rushed to Gotham General Hospital, while the others were pronounced dead on arrival. The man has been identified as Dalton Smith, and charges have not yet been laid.

In a dawn of more and more unusual characters coming to light, each with a murky allignment with regards to the well-being or detriment of our fair city, one can describe this "Hush" character as only one thing: Interesting.

"Wow. W-o-w."

"I couldn't put it better. Good morning Gotham, you're listening to WGN, the Cool Breeze. I hope your kids got plenty of candy, because that was one long Halloween, and certainly not for good reasons. Escape of the Bat... the Faraway Tree Killer..."

"At least we got his name posted up everywheres."

"That we do. And remember to heed the warning of the boys in blue -- nobody be a hero out there, but get as much information to the police as you possible can."

"And for right now, dig this appropriate beat for the mornin'."

"And while you take that in, let's Shoot the Breeze(tm)!"

While it is good to hear that the faraway tree killer has been identified, the rest of the news from last night is troubling. A new vigilante on our hands who causes such extreme harm. The escape of the farway tree killer. And for that matter, the two escapes yesterday. We are encountering more and more dangers with each passing day and I urge everyone to be very cautious.

Gotham City, I have no better way to inform you of this, so I will simply come out and tell you.

The Joker has escaped.

Authorities have confirmed that an incredibly well-organized c'oup was staged to free the clown prince from captivity. It succeeded. A pedestrian, intrigued by the approaching convoy, caught the entire thing on video and sent it to GCN right away. Beware that the images are disturbing, and not recommended for young viewers.

An armored transport truck, with a police cruiser behind it, is seen from a high balcony, cruising through a shady area of downtown Gotham in the black district. As nears a red light, ten pedestrians suddenly unbutton their shirts.

Beasts are suddenly seen. Lions, tigers, bears, and everything in between. The animals start to run amok, as the pedestrians all shriek and run about to get away from them. As the transport truck starts to move again, you see a very large man in a mask come running from a nearby alley. WHAM! He bangs into the armored truck's side, which tips slightly. Then more. Then more. The wheels spin rapidly, and then it falls on its side.

The huge man then brandishes an assault rifle as he climbs the undercarriage of the vehicle and places something on the side, lights it, and steps away. A brilliant flash is seen, and a hole is burned clean in the side of the vehicle.

An officer appears from the front passenger side of the truck and is gunned down by the large man. The two officers from the escort vehicle begin to open fire as he leaps down into the truck. The Joker is seen climbing up and out of the hole. And as soon as he does...

Dozens and dozens of Jokers, all dressed in orange prison skivvies as he is, get out of many of the surrounding traffic and begin to run around in circles. The cops look on in bafflement as the real Joker is lost in the sea of clones. The large man is shot by the driver while climbing out of the armored vehicle, and responds with like force, before leaping into the sea of Jokers and into an alley.

A helicopter has arrived, and a SWAT team. The helicopter keeps a spotlight on the scene, and the SWAT team arrives guns blazing. The many Jokers begin to dogpile back into vehicles and take off in every direction at once, but not before many of them are gunned down.

Truly, truly shocking. Any men who would organize such an elaborate attempt to free the Joker is as great a monster as he.

However, authorities are not sure yet what to make of the copycat Jokers. They've released few details, but GCN's sources have confirmed that all of the deceased Jokers, who did not actually accost or assault anyone, were unarmed. Because the SWAT teams came in with their firearms going, none were captured alive.

Controversy with our own offices has hit the roof over this comment, but an as yet unconfirmed source has suggested that Gotham City D.A. Harvey Dent, who was at the courthouse awaiting the opportunity to arraign the Joker, was in fact directing the convoy and gave the order to fire. You'll know more as we know it.

But now, of all times, Gotham, your city needs to hear your voice.

Citizens of Gotham, this is a total travesty. First of all, the Joker has managed to escape police holding, which in and of itself is a horrid thing. But look at the way it happened and you see the real issue here. Gotham is not even safe from it's own police force.

The large man in the mask was the ONLY one to cause harm. Yet he escaped and, from the looks of things did so without pursuit. Instead, the swat team chose to open fire on a group of unarmed men dressed as the Joker. Did they really expect to hit the real Joker in that mess? If the large man was able to escape so easily, the Joker obviously wouldn't have had an issue doing so. And so, instead of focusing on capturing as many of the men as possible, the SWAT team instead opened fire on the group who had harmed no one. Would it not have made more sense to try to capture as many as possible to gain possibly valuable information? Instead we have a body count and nothing to show for it. Not only that, but those who remained alive escaped with no issues, when the area should have been surrounded to prevent such an issue.

There is also the info that Mr. Dent ordered the indiscriminate firing. This raises questions about our leadership as of yet unseen. Why would he give an order to fire on this group of unarmed men, nonetheless in the middle of lunch hour? The risks of hitting people completely unrelated with the escape were far too high, and the chances of hitting the Joker far too low. I for one am very concerned about this course of events, and I believe this proves more than ever that we need a change in the line of command to prevent fiascoes like this from occurring. If our police force is doing things like this, then who do we have to trust? If this kind of event becomes a trend, we have far more worrisome issues than the Joker.

As always Gotham, keep yourselves cautious. The Joker is back on the loose, and now we must question our police force as well. I implore you all to keep an eye out for disturbances and clear the area as soon as possible. The police are obviously taking a "shoot now, ask questions later" approach to the Joker, and that makes any situation far more dangerous than it had been before his imprisonment.

Gotham City, we here at GCN have a consolation prize to offer you.

Just a few hours after the Joker's capture, it seems that Captain Gordon and his crack MCU team have captured the hooded assailant who managed to tip over the transport truck that housed the clown prince. This man is said to be under the strictest of lock and key, personally supervised by Gordon. After he gunned down two officers, I can believe it. We can all take a breath knowing that such a bane to the well-being of our fair city was apprehended so quickly.

The real problem, of course, remains lurking in the shadows of our streets. However, this should give citizens a renewed faith in Jim Gordon, if in no one else. This also seems to shed a ray of probable truth over allegations that District Attorney Harvey Dent gave the order to fire, as it does not seem indicative of the behavior exhibited thus far by Captain Gordon.

In unrelated but equally interesting news, it seems that Bruce Wayne has opted to support Rupert Thorne's mayoral candidacy. Perhaps now is in fact the time to see the end of "incremental change". I know I have my invitation, and I plan to hear what Mr. Thorne has to say.

Feel free to offer your opinions, Gotham City. As always, we at GCN await them.

By the way 500 dollar bounty on the Catwoman + a bonus that Carmine Falcone might put in
Ahahahaha... five hundred dollars? That might be a lot back in South America, hon, but please. You're just pissy because you ran after the Bat like a fool and didn't expect a Cat to be outside with some night-night juice. Have fun in jail.

Maybe next time don't involve innocent animals in your far fetched schemes and we wont have a problem.

Hello, people of Gotham. This is Police Captain Gordon.

I know how you feel. I know that it seems like nobody is trustworthy anymore, like the police force has failed and that there is no hope. I will tell you now that this is not true.

Earlier, the Joker had escaped while being transported for arraignment with minimal police support. Most people seem to believe that this was an inside job. While I disagree, I am taking strong measures against the possibility - Today at MCU we are starting as full-scale investigation of all cops, SWAT officers and detectives. If any of them had something to do with this, we'll find out.

I'm sure that your confidence in the GCPD is shaken, but rest assured, the Joker will not be on the loose for long. We will find him and take whatever measures necessary to make sure that he cannot harm another citizen.

I know that there are still many, many dangerous criminals lurking in the streets of gotham. Henri Ducard, The Joker, and the various crime bosses are still out there. Regardless, it has been said that things will get worse before they get better. People of Gotham, I do not believe that we have seen the worst of this crime wave, but believe me, it will get better.

Keep yourselves safe, folks. Hang in there, Gotham.

Captain Gordon, I would just like to say it is good to know that you are leading an investigation to make sure there was no inside involvement. I will agree that my confidence in the GCPD has been shaken, as I'm sure is true with many. However, I must say your efforts deserve the thanks of those in Gotham despite what happened earlier. If it weren't for you, the Joker wouldn't have been off the streets even for the time he was, and I'm sure it will be at your hands that he is brought back in. With Dent being suspected as ordering the open fire earlier, and the Batman's reputation being called into question with recent reports, at least we have one person in the fight against this crime wave who we can still believe in.

"And that was an ode to the Simple Seventies, when things made a little more sense in this town."

"So how 'bout them dead cops, huh?"

"Have some respect."

"Naw I mean it! That Faraway Tree guy, fuckin' Frenchie, he's a real son of a bitch."

"Well, that's clear. A man that seems to be a vigilante that guns his way through Gotham's Finest to reach his targets demonstrates everything that's wrong with vigilante justice."

"Yeah. Plus he's French."

"...That as well...

At any rate, in one hour, at Cathedral Square, concerned citizens are holding a candlelight vigil to honor the men and women of the Gotham City Police Department who have given their lives trying to save this city from it's own ruination. WCU, the Cool Breeze, is proud to sponsor the event. In fact, we will be there ourselves."

"Yeah there's like, a donation box and all that. Go check it out."

"All profits, of course, go to the families and friends of those lost in the city's recent explosion of violent crime."

"In th'mean time, call in, request some tunes, and Shoot the Breeze!(tm)"

"And that was a very somber tune from Elton John to honor Gotham's Finest."

"I gotta say, I'm not really a big fan of ol' EJ, but somethin's just right about that song for this occasion."

"You make a disturbingly higher amount of sense with each day.

At any rate, there have been a lot of tearful eulogies offered today, most with the theme to keep our chins up and our smiles on, as these dedicated men have. I would have to concur. We're now joined by Rupert Thorne himself, local mayoral candidate, who no doubt has something to say worth hearing out."

Citizens of Gotham, I would like to thank you all for coming to this event. The men who lie here are truly Gotham's finest and thoroughly deserve this level of care. These men and women put their lives at stake every day, not hiding behind a mask or fancy gadgets, and instead allowing themselves to be known.

I would like to thank not only these officers, but all of those who have been lucky enough to escape only being injured, and to those like the good Captain Gordon who continue to fight every day. Their efforts continue to prove to me the good this city has. The ability to stand up and fight those who would threaten it. And most of all, that the bravery of the good people who fight for this city will forever shine above the cowardice of those who wish to harm it.

Now, we have our mission. To make sure these officer's deaths were not in vain, and to end this crime spree and bring Gotham to a new age. Regardless of the outcome of this election, I will do what I can to ensure that the men who have done this are apprehended and given the punishment they deserve. On this day of remembrance, I would like us all to look forward, as well as back. To look at what the future brings as well as what has been accomplished. And most of all, to begin a path that will lead to what these men and women fought for every day.

Once again, thank you all for being here, and for continuing to live your lives despite the efforts of the men behind these crimes to prevent you from doing so. I am proud of my city for shining a light in the darkness these men have caused, reminding them the strength we have.

Dangerous Times By Vicki Vale

GCPD canvass the area where the Joker allegedly combated the new figure in red and black and interview bystanders

When I published the The Joke's On You on October the 29th, it was with elation that I unveiled the story of the Joker's capture. Things were looking up: the enigmatic independent Riddler helped hand the Joker over to the Police and promises of a better tomorrow from mayoral candidate Rupert Thorne soothed our fears. The criminal Killer Croc was prohibited from reaching the streets and wrecking further havoc, and possible new heroes were emerging from the Gotham streets. Was it naive to think that the streets could stay safe for long? Was it too much to hope for a better tomorrow?

Now that the Joker has escaped, he shows no signs of slowing his chaotic crime spree. Yesterday, for some unusual reason, he targeted the main licensing office at Port Adams. The site where most honest citizens legitimize their port ice cream business or tourist sales was the scene of a brutal double homicide. The sole security camera in the office shows a man, disguised by a coat and fedora, stop to talk to the receptionist before entering the private office of the boss without permission. After a few moments, a loud gunshot is heard and the man exits the office - at this point, his identifying, almost cancerous looking makeup can be seen under his hat. He takes aim at the cowering receptionist before brutally murdering her and leaving the scene without any physical or forensic trace.

Later in the night, eyewitnesses reported seeing the Joker near the airport, fighting another figure in red and black armor. The masked vigilante was not the Batman, but made movements similar to the Dark Knight, keeping up with the homicidal maniac before being forced to retreat behind a tree for cover after being shot repeatedly. The Joker took this opportunity to shoot a nearby onlooker, highjack his vehicle, and make his escape.

The criminal activity in Gotham seems to only increase as masked figures distinguish themselves from the rest to either cause chaos or take the law into their own hands. When will the Joker be stopped? Where is the Faraway Tree Killer? Who is behind the series of bombings around Gotham City? What can be made of the Batman's arrest and supposed non-escape? Will the giant strongman who broke the Joker out of jail break free himself? Who is the Plague Doctor? Hush? The new red and black crime fighter? And how will organized crime respond to the new threats in what they claim to be 'their city?' In a series of questions, the only constant is danger.

Plague Doctor Infects City Hall By Stanton Kiel

Police canvass the area around City Hall in search of the elusive Plague Doctor

Tonight at approximately 10 PM the Plague Doctor appeared again, this time at City Hall. Security staff phoned the police when they saw someone dressed in plague doctor garb on their cameras in the records room.

As security personnel headed to the room, the Plague Doctor threw two smoke grenades into the outer courtyard, and apparently disappeared down the sewers. The police arrived at this time and went down into the sewers as well. Hearing footsteps, they followed the sound down one tunnel, before they heard an engine idling in another direction and went toward it. The heard the engine revving but the vehicle was gone. The source of the footsteps was found to be a small speaker with the sound of them pre-recorded.

At the scene was a computer, stolen from the Records room of City Hall, with the hard drive removed. Two hundred dollars cash was left on top of the case.

Police were able to lift the tracks of the vehicle the Plague Doctor used, and it is a late 1980s Harley Davidson motorcycle. Gotham City D.A. Harvey Dent could not be reached for comment.

Although no one was harmed in this incident, the information contained on the hard drive was no doubt valuable. What does the Plague Doctor plan on doing with it?

Faraway Tree Robber? By Alexander Knox

Rex's IHOD security officer, Cliff Burton

Last night, Rex's International House of Diamonds had its entire stock stolen. All the jewelry in the store was stolen. When the owner arrived early this morning, the only thing that was left was the money in the safe.

Cliff Burton was the guard on duty at the time when the theft was committed. He had no idea how the thief entered the building, as it was protected by a state of the art security system. Everything from the doors to the ventilation shafts was alarmed. At the time of printing, the GCPD has no leads on how the burglar entered the building.

After the burglar entered the building, the only thing Burton remembers is passing out rather suddenly. He had been injected with a sedative. It only wore off after the burglar was long gone.

However, the most interesting thing about this theft is not what was stolen, but who might have stolen it. On the wall of the building, written in permanent marker, was a quote taken from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Can anybody remember when the times were not hard, and money not scarce? Can anybody remember when sensible men, and the right sort of men, and the right sort of women, were plentiful?

The similarity to the pattern of the Faraway Tree Killer is obvious. However, if this robbery was the work of the Faraway Tree Killer, his methods have changed drastically. Usually, he hunts down anyone he considers a criminal, and kills anyone who stands in his way. Whoever the robber was, they weren't chasing down criminals, and they chose not to kill the guard.

There is no way we can be sure that this is the Faraway Tree Killer. It is just as likely that this criminal is simply a copycat, or a thief trying to disguise their identity and motives behind the threat of a serial killer.

Whatever the case is, the Gotham City PD currently is at a loss to catch the culprit.

"And that was Shadow on the Sun by Audioslave. I think we're all a little outta our heads right now. G'mornin', Gotham, it's J.C. and Kurt Stamps on WGN, the Cool Breeze!"

"Mmmm.

I suppose it was too much to ask for the Joker to spend even one day after his escape without committing homicide. Surprisingly enough, it seems he was limited in his rampage by a new vigilante of sorts."

"I don't trust no vigilantes, not after the Bat went bad."

"Well, it's certainly clear that this one is working with the Batman. The eyewitnesses gave a clear description of his weaponry, and it seems quite similar."

"What's y'point? These criminals ain't gotta be good just cuz they're fightin' each other. Maybe Jokes stepped on this guy's turf."

"...Or maybe this new vigilante was stopping him from catching a flight. Or something infinitely worse."

"Alright, if you love yo' caped crusaders so much, explain the Plague Doctor."

"I never endorsed any of them, and I certainly wouldn't encourage a gunslinger like the Plague Doctor."

"He looked like a vig on night one, yeah, but check it out. Now he's stealin'... building plans, and shit. What kinda person would want that kinda info? Goddamn terrorists. Like the Joker an' all the rest, towelheads too."

You hear a sigh.

"Never a dull moment at WGN.

Well, if you have any comments to offer on the Plague Doctor, the Joker, or even this new vigilante, Gotham, we're here to take your two cents and song requests. Let's Shoot the Breeze(tm)!"

"You know, I'm just surprised the candlelight vigil for the fallen cops of October went off without a hitch. Seems like organized crime is getting lazy to me; a bunch of cops, cop families, and politicians all in one open area together... could have been an awful scene. And yet, none of the mobsters, crime bosses, or murderers in Gotham had the balls enough to shoot at a bunch of pigs in a barrel."

I would like to request World Hold On. I think Bob Sinclair's message affects us more now than any other time. With all the deaths and diseases, criminals escaping, dirty cops, and crimes plaguing the night, the people of this city might be lacking hope. I just say to these people, 'World, Hold On'. Good things come to those who wait, with a little bit of hope anything's possible. The icy winds of the winter will always be calmed by the sunny breeze of spring.

You'll see.
