TRAVEL ADVICE FROM CAOTIC
To get the full Robocop experience, a full three day commitment will be required by everyone. Interstate visitors are strongly encouraged to arrive late Thursday or Friday morning at the latest.

Flying: Melbourne is served by two airports, Tullamarine (MEL) and Avalon (AVV). I highly recommended Smashers fly into the vastly superior Tullamarine (MEL) for faster and convinient connections into the city. Board the red SkyBus outside MEL's Terminal 1 or 2, so that you can reach the CBD within 20 minutes (http://www.skybus.com.au/). The SkyBus drops you off at Southern Cross Station.

SmartBus 901 information: From Tullamarine, you can catch a cheaper alternative to the SkyBus by taking the SmartBus to Broadmeadows Station, and a Train to the CBD from there. It'll make your trip to the city take about 60 mins, but costs at most, $5.80.

Frequencies are high (typically every 12-20 mins from 4am - 12am)

Public Transport: CQ is located at the very heart of Melbourne's CBD. It is approximately a 5 minute walk from Flinders Street Station and a 10 minute walk from Southern Cross Station; those stations connect to all regional and metropolitan services.

THE ROBOCOP PRE-PARTY - DAY ZERO INFORMATION

Day Zero (Friday) will feature a bevy of social events for Smashers to meet up and basically own this town for a day.

EVENT A: DODGEBALL (FRIDAY, 1.00PM)

Dodgeball: Meet at Flinders Street Station under the clocks at 1pm Friday. To avoid the abrupt disappointments of Dodgeball last year, we will have a FFA event, with the sole survivor winning a free pair of their very own designed Converse Chucks to fit, imported from Venice Beach, California! (Value excl. shipping @ $99)

You can submit any design to the guys from The Ave Venice, even all your favourite Smash characters!

EVENT A2: NINTENDO EXPERIENCE BRAWL TOURNAMENT, EB SWANSTON STREET (FRIDAY, 3PM)
http://www.nintendo.com.au/index.php?action=news&nid=332&pageID=6

EVENT B: ROBOCOP DINNER PARTY (FRIDAY, 6PM)

Dinner: +39 Pizzeria & Degustation. We'll be heading here right after the Dodgeball competition. It's moderately priced, about $20-$25 would be all that's needed for a good dinner with drinks (there are good vegetarian options here as well). I will need to gauge attendance for this in order to make an accurate reservation, so if you plan on coming along, give me some indication that you will be attending. In any case, I will make a provisional reservation for 20 people, but I will expand that if I get more confirmations from people.

EVENT C: ROBOCOP BAR HOPPING (FRIDAY, 8PM) -- OR,
EVENT D: VARIOUS SMASHFESTS TAKING PLACE THROUGHOUT THE CITY

After dinner you have two options. You're either:
EVENT C) Probably wanting to play some Smash -- there are planned Smashfests by various folks right after the dinner, or
EVENT D) Probably wanting to sample Melbourne's best known drinking institutions.

Redact will be hosting a Smashfest, but I will be acting as a guide to show visitors and drink/social-happy Smashers some of my favourite drinking holes (+18 only). The bar hopping tour will include the following bars, possibly more (all being free entry):

- The Melbourne Supper Club
- Berlin Bar
- The Croft Institute
- Section 8
- The Rooftop Cinema

This is likely to end at 10PM.

THE INTERNATIONAL SPONSORSHIP FUNDRAISER

Ever since one of the world's best Smashers, Mew2King, expressed his desire to attend an Australian tournament through a sponsorship organized on our behalf, the Australian Smash Community has thrown in support to try and bring him over here. However, as much as people are excited with the prospect of having a player of his calibre to come and play, the goal cannot be achieved unless certain conditions are met -- and that a level of organizational competence is demonstrated by the selected sponsored person. These conditions have been drafted to protect you, members of Australian Smash Community.

Below, I have created a list of pre-requisites that the sponsored person will need to complete before May 31, so that the deal is legitimized:

The sponsored player will need to present before May 31:
- A proof of Passport
- Proof of a commitment to purchase travel insurance before the fly out date (this may be covered by sponsorship money)
- Written expression that Robocop does not conflict with any significant events in the sponsored person's calendar (this includes any contractual agreements with MLG, school deadlines, or significant personal events), and that they are able to attend.

PAYPAL FUNDRAISING INFORMATION

I have set up a PayPal account under my email address: caodav@gmail.com

PayPal lets you send money to anyone with email. PayPal is free for consumers, and works seamlessly with your existing credit card and current account. All you need to do is sign up for PalPal (if you haven't already got one) and send your donation using my email address. It's a straightforward process and I can help anyone who has trouble with PayPal transfers.

CURRENT GOAL: $1300 Australian Dollars ($1200 USD)

What you are donating for:

Mew2King's (Jason Zimmerman) flights in full:
Los Angeles > Sydney/Melbourne > Los Angeles
Mew2King's appearance from approximately the 27th of September 2010 to October the 10th, 2010.
Mew2King's attendance in Robocop on the first weekend of his visit
Mew2King's attendance in a follow-up local Sydney tournament on the second weekend of his visit

Extra terms: This deal was only possible if Mew2King get his flight costs covered in full, as well as claim a stake in Robocop's pot. However, in the interests of Australian Smash players, there will be a (salary) cap in a pot Mew2King can claim with any victory in a Robocop event. To nullify this, CouchWarriors will provide a significant cash injection to the Robocop at no extra cost to Smashers.

Assuming he places first, the following pot distribution will be as follows:
1st - 30% (M2K)
2nd - 45%
3rd - 20%
4th - 5%

If he doesn't (lol whatever), the pot distribution will be as follows:
1st - 50% (excl. M2K)
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%
4th - 10%

The guaranteed mininum pot is $2500.

General Rules
Playing non-tournament matches without a Tournament Organiser's consent may result in disqualification. Players may forfeit games and/or sets if their match has been called by a TO and is not started within reasonable time. Please inform a TO of any situations that may hinder you from playing. Players have the right to remove an SD card from a wii before play.
Homebrew / Modded Wiis must NOT alter game play, characters or stage designs. Stage/Character textures or replacement music must not make the game unplayable or uncomfortable for an individual player.

Brawl Thriller Ruleset:

Match Settings: 3 Stock | 8 Minute Timer | Items set to "off" and "none"
Matches are played as best of three sets. Championship and Finals (Winners, Losers Semi, Losers) sets are best of five. This includes Pool Matches, matches ending with suicide moves that result in Sudden Death have the initiator of the move declared winner. (A) In the case of a match going to time, Sudden Death is not played. A player may not select a stage which they have already won on in the set, unless the opponent agrees. Players are responsible for their own controllers (including connectivity, battery life, etc) and control settings. No unnecessary pausing of the game. (B) Stalling is banned. Actions that cause glitches and/or game freezes which prevent the game from continuing are the responsibility of the player. Extension (Infinite or otherwise) of Meta Knight's Dimension Cape / Down B is banned. The above listed yellow actions may result in the player responsible forfeiting the MATCH or SET. Tournament Organizers hold discretionary powers. Excessive screaming made by a player will be barred from play.

A) Time Out Procedures:

In the case of a time out the winner(s) of the match are declared by (in order):
(Singles Only; Meta Knight only) If the player has more than 25 Ledge Grabs they forfeit the match. Highest [combined] stock count. Lowest [combined] percentage. In the case of not being able to declare a winner, a One Stock Four Minute Decider is played with the same characters and stage. In the case of the Decider time out with the previous conditions, Sudden Death is played out.

B) Stalling

The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.
Set Procedure: Opponents select their ports.* Opponents choose their characters. Double blind selection may be called if a player wishes it. Opponents strike the starter stages one at a time until there is one remaining.* The first match of the set is played on said stage. After the match is played the winner may declare a legal stage banned. The previous match's loser selects a remaining legal stage to be played on. If the previous match's loser wishes to, they may also counterpick a port.
The winner of the previous match picks character first. The loser then picks their character. Steps 4-7 are repeated until a set is completed.

(*) In the case of dispute, a best of one Rock, Paper, Scisors match is played. The winner may select preferred port OR which opponent strikes first. The loser obtains the unselected option.

General Rules
Items are set to off. Stock and Time are set to 4 stock and 8 minutes respectively.
Regular sets are best of 3 matches. The Tournament Host is the arbiter of all disputes. Blind Picks: the first character selection of a set must be without prior knowledge of the opponent's character selection for both players. Modified Dave's Stupid Rule: No player can counter pick a stage he or she has previously won on unless agreed upon by both players. Gentleman's clause: any stage may be played on so long as both players and the Tournament Host agree to it, including banned stages. This can be used in tandem with the Modified Dave's Stupid Rule (MDSR).
Timed out matches will be determined by the remaining number of lives, then percentage of the current stock. In the event of a percentage tie, replay that match. Any Sudden Death match is strictly not to be played. Wobbling is bannned.

Additional Rules for Teams Play
Life Stealing is allowed
Set team attack to ON

Redwood Counter Pick System
Blind Picks character selection. Stage Striking: Players eliminate stages from the Starter Stage List until only 1 remains, and the players then play the first match on that stage. Players strike stages in 1 2 2 1 order. The first match is played. Winning player of the preceding match bans a stage. The losing player of preceding match picks stage for the next match. The winning player of preceding match picks character. The losing player picks character. The next match is played. Repeat 4-8 for all consecutive matches as necessary until the set is complete.

Recommendations to Tournament Hosts
Players are responsible for their own general welfare in regards to the tournament. In other words, players are responsible for:

Being familiar with the rule set and stage list
Entrance and venue fees
Arriving on time
Maintaining personal hygiene
Controllers and Character Knowledge
Minimizing Johns

Sets are usually based on brackets which may be seeded at the Tournament Host's discretion. If your tournament is any other format, make a note to advertise it accordingly. Some kind of stalling prevention is highly recommended. Since a definition of stalling is too potentially ambiguous here, all instances of stalling are determined by the Tournament Host. Unnecessary delays in a set should be discouraged. This can occur before (not playing a match) or during (taking an unnecessary amount of time to counter pick) and after (not reporting) a set that has been called. The Tournament Host is recommended to keep tabs on set completion.
No more than the previous match should be replayed in the event of a rule violation and it is recommended that any disputes be brought promptly and quickly to the Tournament Host's attention. When running a pool, the game count of each set in pool play should be recorded (i.e. whether the set was 2-0 or 2-1). Ranking in a pool is determined by the number of sets won. In case of a tie, the first tiebreaker is the win/loss ratio of the individual games, where the higher ratio wins. In the event of a tie in both set victories and match-up ratios, the player who won the set between the disputed players should advance. The semi-final and championship sets should be in at least best of 5 format. Wireless controllers should be discouraged or banned because of interference, unreliability (battery life), and time hindrance.
The Tournament Host reserves the right at any time to make anyone leave the premises of the tournament. For all Melee tournaments, use of the character Metaknight is banned.

Aww, sincere apology! There's no denying what we had in that final match was special and probably not repeated anywhere else. It was a great set and everyone loved it - it ended in a silly way, but awesome nonetheless. You > me.

Scrubs - I'll flag those dates. Armada, eh?

I will be mentioning player sponsorship to CW this weekend in its Annual General Meeting. Given we (CW) already have a healthy bank and that we will be raising money throughout the regular 2010 season, sponsorship now becomes a feasible idea.

I personally think we should be sponsoring someone from the US West Coast as it’s the most rational decision – it has cheaper and direct flights to the Australian East Coast (it can be as low as a commitment of $1100), and it has communities with connections to Australia. However, if this road is pursued, I'll eventually open this up to any foreigner who is interested in coming here and we as a collective will get to pick from a set of submissions.

Some interesting points regarding sponsorship:
- A sponsored player to Australia will have no stake in the pot in Robocop. This means the increased pot will still be largely contested by Australian players – not sponsored ones.
- A sponsored player to Australia will accept that they are not on a mission to profit or just obliterate the competition (although this is highly welcome); they are here to enhance the tournament experience for other attendees.
- A sponsored player to Australia is preferred to be proficient in both Brawl and Melee.

It also pays to attend the regular CW monthlies that will be starting up this February. Every entrant that pays the entry fee will be directly contributing to the funds which will make Robocop leagues better than we can currently imagine.

Anyway, thoughts? To sponsor, or not to sponsor?

m2k lol

but i remember talking to zan, multiple times at the arcade, and sponsoring an sf4/some 2d fighter player was mentioned.

he said, along with some others, that there is better things they could do with the money to increase the popularity/quality of bam that they haven't done yet since its only its 2nd year.

he also said he would love a sponsored player though, its just he wants to see bam grow as much as it can, and wants to use the money wisely

but then smash deserves obviously its own portion of the money, and were free to spend it how we want yeah? if sponsoring a player is the way you think it should go cao, then do it, you have more tournament organization skills that 99% here, and also know more about how the smash community works more than zan

personally, i like the idea of sponsoring a player over here as long as they're a good social person too so we get more than just a few tournament games each out of them

Yeah, Slapper Joe, one of the guys who sets up the tournies up here in QLD has been talking about getting an SF4 sponsored player.

But that was for up here.

Maybe I should talk to him about BAM a bit more, there was only two of us down there last time because most of the QLD guys went to OHN.

I would really hate to give just one of the these guys (Havok/Hall/Oats) the sponsorship. They're all equally deserving. ChuDat would come as my personal favorite, but his flight may be expensive if he was interested.

coz like if we wait 1 more year cw will have so much profit that we might be able to sponsor anyone from anywhere and not just from the cheapest area or whatever...i dunno just an idea.

Tibs... it's not about being able to sponsor anyone from anywhere just because we can, it's more about who actually wants to come down here for a smash tournament and a holiday. The more a player is willing to come down, the more we are able to strike a deal. We wouldn't have to necessarily cover for their entire expenses if the player values the experience so much as to put down some of their own finances on the line.

Nothing is decided until the AGM passes, btw.
