Ten minutes is better than eight minutes. Although it may seem minor, the additional four to ten minutes per set really helps to cut down on time-out victories. Just because it's very uncommon in FL doesn't mean that it shouldn't be addressed.

Adding two extra minutes is not gonna reduce time-out victories LOL

Players are just gonna extend their "I have the lead, now you approach me at your own risk" playstyle for two extra minutes

ppl still take small bits of damage over time so it helps. And stages like rainbow and delphino can take longer than usual. Theres nothing bad about extending it

Brood coulda brought that back at the 7:19 mark if he had more time. Its bad enough he had to play a mk there lol. He also had to work against time

Sure he coulda, but you gotta remember that the 8 minute time limit forced M2K to approach in game 5 as well. With M2K being pressed for time, Brood waited for the perfect opportunity and punished M2K's poorly spaced dair with an usmash for the win.

Now, let's say the timer was 10 minutes in that match. M2K has 2 extra minutes to pick his spot. Most certainly he would have stayed in a relatively safe position until the stage formation changed back to it's neutral self, where he would've started sharking again. All it takes is one opening and MK can capitalize get the lead, getting small bits of damage over those two minutes and then start stalling for the rest of the match, putting Olimar back in the position as the aggressor. With MK's great stall game, he puts Olimar in a very disadvantageous position of approaching MK to try to get the lead back.

That's all theorycraft and no one would know how that would turn out because what's done is done. Both players benefited from the 8 minute timer, and it showed.

If you watch the match again, you'll see that Brood was adapting to the stage while M2K was adapting to the player. America has around five times as many stages as Japan does, so obviously Brood wouldn't be practiced enough on all of them. Brood was looking for the timing of Usmashing M2K when he was sharking (which is very punishable; returning to the stage from beneath after sharking is relatively unsafe in general).

At any rate, M2K was not playing against the timer; he was still playing carefully. I seriously doubt that game five would have changed with two more minutes. Game three, however...

On a similar note, I believe that M2K would have won the entire set against Brood if DSR prevented Brood from returning to BF.

Also, XDeath,

I watch that match all the time. At home. At work. At a friend's house. In my dad's car. Just look at my location.

No matter where I'm at, I'm watching game 5 of the amazing set between Brood and M2K.

They're a business. They need some sort of incentive to hold tourneys. That's how it's always been with LAN center run tourneys.

I might come to this.

I bet that the Tourneys i run ie Holy Smash are at a more comfortable venue and i dont **** the pot. they should just charge a door fee.

but i did the math and 30% of $15.00 is 4.50 so it sorta works out.

door fees hurt everyone

while taking from the pot only hurts those who are placing in the money

Im used to this from gigs, so i dont really care. Its about the same as a door fee anyway unless the tourney is really small, in which then the lan center gets screwed, or really big, when they make alot of money
