The index is work in progress and I'll be working on it from time to time.

Let me know if you find something good.

I just dug up a lot of MLG articles.
I think I'm done with MLG stuff... unless someone knows about something that I left out?

Thanks for the positive posts.

On EVO 2007: I can't find jack on the web. But I used to have the EVO DVD with the interviews on it (they did HugS, Mango, Chillin', ...). Can't find it anywhere now.
Does anyone have that DVD and is willing to upload that stuff? They don't sell it anymore so I don't think Evo would mind.

I hate to say it but I really wasn't impressed with Juggleguy's 2010 review. He didn't mention a lot of the important things about the tournaments. Like how impressed people were with Amsah at Pound 4, or how half the community was split on if ScorpionMaster was mango or not. It's like he just rushed through it, without taking enough time to make it as good as possible.

Well I think this is because they expected(I think he even said he would) that Juggleguy would write the article so no one else did. Juggleguy did a good 2009 article, but his 2010 article was kinda lazy. I'm saying that people shouldn't let him be the one to write the articles if he isn't going to give it his full effort.

BEAST 1 was exactly 100 entrants. =p

Awesome thread.
Ah, I didn't realize BEAST 1 was this year.

So that means as long as RoM has more than 100 entrants (which is basically guaranteed), we will match last year's mark of 6 100+ tournaments.

So that would make the progression:
2004: 2
2005: 6
2006: 10
2007: 12
2008: 4
2009: 9
2010: 6
2011: 6

Rostigalen is wrong. I'm pretty sure BEAST I had around 90 entrants.

And there was also Wintergames fest 2011 and SMYM 12.

Woah, I forgot about those. Will we really have 8 100+ this year (7 if BEAST was really less than 100; I can't seem to find the entrants numbers)?

Pound V
Genesis 2
Big House
Wintergamesfest 2011
SMYM 12
BEAST 1
BEAST 2
RoM

We've also had a few that were close to 100 like Zenith. I suppose we might have a tournament other than RoM crack 100+ too but I don't know of any.

Pretty great year for smash all things considered.

TGMTSBCO was indeed 100+ good catch! Juggleguy's list was wrong he should update that; he didnt include TGMTSBCO. He had UCLA V as the 4th 100+ he listed. The new list would be:

2004: 2 (TG6, Game Over)
2005: 6 (FC3, Getting Schooled 2, MLG DC, MLG SF, BOMB 4, MOAST 3)
2006: 10 (MLG New York Opener, MLG Dallas, MLG Anaheim, MLG Chicago, MLG Orlando, MLG New York Playoffs, FC6, OC2, SMYM 6, Gauntlet)
2007: 12 (OC3, FC-Diamond, Cataclysm, EVO South, EVO West, EVO World, Smash Royale III, Innsomnia, Pound 2, SCC, VLS, UCLA IV)
2008: 5 (Pound 3, UCLA V, TGMTSBCO, ESA 2, Event 52)
2009: 9 (SMYM 9, Revival of Melee, Mango Juice, ESA 3, Genesis, SMYM 10, TSL 4, Pat's House, RoM 2)
2010: 6 (Pound 4, SMYM 11, APEX 2010, SNY 1, RoM 3, DGDTJ)
2011: 8

Add any more if you can remember it; I'm sure Juggleguy missed a few more. I'd also be interested in ordering each of these by attendants...

Wow, good list, Crimson. I'm going to use it to base my searches on, and/or just link to your post in the index.

I'd take Rostigalen's word over Strife's, seeing as he was there. iirc he was even sort of part of the crew.

I was unofficial staff at BEAST 1. Strife wasn't there. Why do you hold his word over mine?

Exactly 100 persons entered singles, and I think we had 47 teams entering. Some players entered teams but not singles (for example C, who got to Losers Finals in teams), so we had over 100 participants for sure.

I always love reading old pre-brawl posts from like AZ and those guys. So much hardcore denialism.

"Brawl will be good. No, really. Shut- just shut up, OK? It'll be good."

God 2007 was so absurd.

July 12-14th: FC Diamond (256)
July 20-22nd: OC3 (228)
July 27-29th: EVO West (128)

3 consecutive weekends of 3-day nationals. A month before that there was Pound 2 (200), and a month after there was EVO World (270). Like wtf.

...Its so sad to see that growth stunted immediately in 2008 because of you-know-what...

But it seems like we are on the up and up again. I know everyone likes to say we are stagnant or dying but the numbers suggest growth, at least based on the numbers I've compiled so far (I still wanna look into it more before I make a more conclusive post).

Does anyone have the numbers for how large the Brawl tournies have been? I'd like to see how we stack up to them attendant wise.

Genesis had 228 and Pound V had 234. RoM is still to be determined, but those usually get between 130-170 iirc.
Oh, that makes more sense. I was WTF'ing a little at how they weren't over 200; I think he just forgot to include the little (200+!)'s, but he's fixed it now.

Yay melee! Second best game of all time!
