I thought it would be closer to 1000.

I'm a little disappointed with the overall selection of trophies this time around. Too many items/objects and not enough characters.

I haven't watched any of the trophy videos and haven't completed All-Star with everyone yet, but has anyone noticed the All-Star veteran Final Smash trophies are basically the same from Brawl? Jigglypuff's is identical but with Greninja replacing Pokemon Trainer and Ike's in the same stance but with blue fire now. It seems awfully lazy...

Here is a video showing off all trophies, Trophy Boxes, and challenge panels,
Trophy Boxes are shown at the 2:12:15 mark.
The challenge panels are shown at the 2:17:54 mark.
I will NOT link pictures of the trophies nor I will name the trophies shown and omitted such as Krystal from the Trophy Boxes as well the challenges as they are pretty short enough to absorb. Edit: I actually would link pictures of the trophies and name the trophies shown in the Trophy Boxes as well the challenges just give me time as it takes a long while.
Here is a list of the names of the trophies and number for each series shown in order of the video for those don't have the time to watch:
Current Status: In progress
35 (Super Smash Bros) + 107 (Super Mario:4mario:) + 36 (Donkey Kong:4dk:) + 49 (Legend of Zelda:4link:) + 29 (Metroid:4samus:) + 3 (Yoshi:4yoshi:) + 42 (Kirby:4kirby:) + 25 (Star Fox:4fox:) + 93 (Pokémon:4pikachu:) + 15 (F-Zero:4falcon:) + 11 (Earthbound:4ness:) + 17 (Fire Emblem:4marth:) + 9 (Game & Watch:4gaw:) + 19 (Kid Icarus:4pit:) + 9 (Wario:4wario2:) + 26 (Pikmin:4olimar:) + 3 (R.O.B.:4rob:) + 37 (Animal Crossing :4villager:) +13 (Wii Fit:4wiifit:) + 13 (Punch-Out!!:4littlemac:) + 17 (Xenoblade:4shulk:) + 8 (Duck Hunt:4duckhunt:) +52 (Other) + 15 (Sonic the Hedgehog:4sonic:) + 20 (Mega Man:4megaman:) + 13 (Pac-Man:4pacman:) = 716

Xenoblade spoilers
That moment when Seven has as many trophies as Ridley.
really Sakurai. I love Xenoblade and all but a character from Xenoblade that isn't Shulk having as many trophies as the Main Antagonist of the Metroid series just doesn't seem right.

I agree, it's very disappointing to me. I was hoping for at least one new trophy from a Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn character. You'd think a Nintendo franchise, one with a wide variety of characters from across 13 games, would get at least an equal amount of trophies as the 3rd-party franchises. It reminds me of Brawl, where even the Metal Gear series had more trophies than Fire Emblem.

So question: Do people really enjoy knowing and seeing all the completed content before unlocking for themselves? That completely ruins it for me. We wait and get hyped for Smash for years. I like the element of surprise of unlocking and seeing stuff for myself.

It can depend on the game that you're playing sometimes.

I can see that for something like Street Fighter, which is also a classic and popular game that I love. Smash Bros is purely involved in unlocking amazing content, though. Iconic characters and history, etc.

People like to do that with a franchise like The Elder Scrolls, which is something that would absolutely disengage me and take me out of the experience.

How does Rayman get as many trophies as Yoshi.
Ask the developers.

You remember the Ultimate Chimera that can appear at the New Pork City Stage in Super Smash Bros Brawl?

It didn't have a trophy in that game. Think of these odd omissions as a "surprise" when these characters appear and perhaps as a call back.

So... ms. PAC man, Isaac, and Barbara the bat don't get trophies... How disapointibg.... I had heard Isaac was supposed to get one...

I expect DLC will add more trophies to the game. Nintendo had enough "testing the waters" for DLC using Mewtwo as an "experiment" through other games like Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors despite them being completely different games for a different audience in my opinion.

M. That said Isaac won't get one as he's probably not gonna make playable and Wii U uses home console game trophies almost exclusively.

In fairness, I'm far more lax on spoiling myself when it comes to video games (versus TV shows, movies, novels, etc.).

So yeah, when the trophy list for a Smash Bros. game is revealed, I'm all over it. But then again, I do feel a bit guilty about it afterward. =P

716 trophies and not one is from Golden Sun. Actually, over 1000 trophies all together and not one is from Golden Sun.

One of the comments from the video:
This game seems to have more references to Nintendo's entire handheld history than the 3DS version does, as evident with one of the two source games for the Heart Container and Daisy's trophy.
Of course it's all subjective until somebody makes a proper comparison. Who's up for making a proper comparison? I ain't doing it as I have more important things to do with my time like stupid College work. :(

So I have 188 more trophies to get. Big thanks to @ Selenite Selenite for posting the list, despite him missing 5 trophies. His list has 711 on it.
Then let's double check shall we?
There is currently 716 trophies confirmed for the Wii U version as of December 2, 2014.
35 (Super Smash Bros) + 107 (Super Mario:4mario:) + 36 (Donkey Kong:4dk:) + 49 (Legend of Zelda:4link:) + 29 (Metroid:4samus:) + 3 (Yoshi:4yoshi:) + 42 (Kirby:4kirby:) + 25 (Star Fox:4fox:) + 93 (Pokémon:4pikachu:) + 15 (F-Zero:4falcon:) + 11 (Earthbound:4ness:) + 17 (Fire Emblem:4marth:) + 9 (Game & Watch:4gaw:) + 19 (Kid Icarus:4pit:) + 9 (Wario:4wario2:) + 26 (Pikmin:4olimar:) + 3 (R.O.B.:4rob:) + 37 (Animal Crossing :4villager:) +13 (Wii Fit:4wiifit:) + 13 (Punch-Out!!:4littlemac:) + 17 (Xenoblade:4shulk:) + 8 (Duck Hunt:4duckhunt:) +52 (Other) + 15 (Sonic the Hedgehog:4sonic:) + 20 (Mega Man:4megaman:) + 13 (Pac-Man:4pacman:) = 716

You may have miscounted which is quite easy given the small amount of content the Yoshi and R.O.B. series received.
I apologize how I didn't make the amount of trophies each series received clear enough in my list. I will rectify that and you're welcome.

Oh I see.
(That's totally a reference to Sable's huge amount of money in For the Frog the Bell Tolls, I love it)
The guy makes sure that his trophy is worth a fortune. Eat your heart out Wario.

(Yes I totally agree how hilariously well put this challenge is. )

Wow 93 Pokemon trophies so that means there's really 623 trophies in the Wii U version.

Lame as ****.

Basically, "the trophies aren't trophies of stuff I personally like, so they don't really count as trophies"

Great logic.

You guys are complaining? Really? I thought there were many trophies in Melee and Brawl, but over 700 trophies in just the Wii U version is a LOT. Do you guys know how much effort it takes to make just one of those? I'm very satisfied with this number.
Oh well. Opinions, opinions and more opinions.

Correct. I don't find the Pokemon franchise as an original Nintendo franchise, so that's far too many trophies I don't have any attachment to. I can think of many Zelda and Mario characters that should make it as trophies. 1/7th to Pokemon. Ridiculous.

Why does Fire Emblem get so few trophies... behind Pokemon, it has the most characters out of any other nintendo series... and yet crappy third parties get more than an original, first party nintendo series? Smash Bros is a NINTENDO ALL-STARS game, not a Sega, Capcom, and Namco game. Third party reps should be minimal at most.

It's not a matter of how many trophies there are this time, it's a matter of what trophies they put into the game. Generic items, duplicates, spam... 1 different trophy for each pikmin color, for example... why not simply a trophy for all the pikmins at once? and some series got lots of trophies specific to different games (skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Windwaker) while others got nothing except some generic references and the main character.
The handheld games are not represented enough. No oracle trophies, no minish cap trophies, no Marioland 2 trophies, no any other retro handheld game is represented with some rare exceptions; only recent casual games like Kawashima and Nintendogs are represented as handheld.
Important characters from the history of Nintendo, such as the classic version of Ganon, are not represented, and never got represented in past Smash games as well, which is stupid.

anyway, I discovered something in my playthrough:

the alt. trophies for the characters are unlocked in the all stars mode as well, not only in the classic (I did the all stars with everyone first, and I got them in the shop).
There are a bunch of very expansive trophies that appear late in the shop. They cost 2500 (and I'm not sure, but I think there are some that cost 5000 as well... not sure though). I don't know when they appear, maybe they appear after buying all the alt. trophies, but again, I'm not sure (to mention some of them, the Game & Watch consoles trophies).
There are some trophies that are exclusive to Trophy Rush.
When you have around 610 trophies (more or less, depending on the challenges), you can't get any more trophies from most of the modes (assuming that you never used Trophy Rush like me). If you want the last trophies you need to play Trophy Rush, they can be obtained only in that way. Those trophies are mostly smash items.
I can make a list, since the last trophy I got was the prince of stable, everything above it is a Trophy Rush exclusive, or something got through challenges (I have to remove them). Maybe I'll do it later.
