Anyone who has SSBB look inside!!! co-op wifi question

I've been trying to find this out, but can't seem to get a clear answer. Can you play co-op with a friend/brother on your Wii online against random prople, like in Mario Strikers Charged?

Yes, as seen a long while ago before the game was released through the Japanese commercials.

That commercial only proved that you can at least do it against friends, not nessicarily against anyone.
