OST =/= rip.
OST (original sound track), is, and should always be, defined as (in my opinion), an OFFICIAL soundtrack released in the form of a CD, or similar.

A "rip", is a selection of tunes from a game that have been directly taken from the ROM or ISO. If you have the ISO image of Super Mario Galaxy 2, and rip the streamed audio, that is NOT the "Super Mario Galaxy OST". It is the rip that has been used for said game. If it was the OST, then there'd be a few differences. Namely, Puzzle Plank, Fleet Glide, and Melty Monster have a slight extra piece at the beginning on each (for example, Puzzle Plank has 2 short drums).

Now that's done, (or not?), if possible, try avoiding using direct YouTube rips, as YouTube butchers quality of sound badly, and ripping from a bad quality source, can make the quality even worse. And IF you find any MP3s of video game music, most likely, they will be 128 kbps, because, 1. Hardly anyone knows how to change the bitrate in Audacity, or whatever they used, if they did, and/or 2. People are so cheap they can't be bothered to distribute high quality 320 kbps MP3s because "it takes up too much space". How much? Not a lot. A typical 320 kbps MP3 is roughly 2.34 megabytes per minute, which really isn't too much. However, sometimes the 128 kbps MP3s aren't too bad, however, occasionally, they may sound like water was spilt in your speakers.

I decided I'd let the BRSTMs from Brawl on my site, seeing that people have sometimes asked for the BRSTMs from Brawl and that SSBB's not the only game that uses BRSTMs

Can I just make a huge point? Let's say someone wants to replace the Cruel Brawl music with another BRSTM. Exactly WHAT do they name it? I know it's X17.brstm, but if people don't know that, how are they to know? This is now the 3rd time I've asked, in the first post where the list of songs are, and what you should name your BRSTM to, to replace it, X17 is listed as "Adventure Map (Ver 2)" or something. And whoever uploaded it to brawlcustommusic, ALSO uploaded it under that name, i.e.: http://www.brawlcustommusic.com/3821
Therefore, I re-named it to "Cruel Brawl". But still, the first post of this topic should have that correction, otherwise people will be looking for the one for Cruel Brawl, and since it's not "there" they'll assume it can't be changed or something.

Sorry, that was me. I took a list I found off the internet and went to the sound test ingame adn used Dolphin to tell me what files the game was loading. Apparently X17 isn't listed in the sound test, so it didn't get corrected.

I just thought about something, which could apply to both this site, and brawlcustommusic.com

Now, I'm from the UK, and so, I might have a game called 'Yoshi's Universal Gravitation' (I don't actually have this, but let's just say I do), now although I'd know to look under Yoshi Topsy-Turvy, supposing someone from Europe wasn't aware that Yoshi Topsy-Turvy was the American name for Yoshi's Universal Gravitation? Another example of such a game (of which I'll be uploading BRSTMs of later), would be a game originally released as "Professor Kageyama's Maths Training: The Hundred Cell Calculation Method", which in America is known as "Personal Trainer: Math". In other words, how do you solve the problem of a non-American looking for a game, because of the American titles being different from other regions' titles?

Another thing I was thinking, regarding the Brawl BRSTMs. Should I (or whoever) move all "originals" to their original games, and just leave the "remixes" or Brawl-exclusive versions? E.g. should I move "Gerudo Valley" to "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time"?

Does this mean that any songs that are in Brawl shouldn't be uploaded for their individual games? For example, I deliberately didn't upload Green Hill Zone or Scrap Brain Zone for Sonic 1, when I uploaded that game's soundtrack, because of this reason.

And what about the region-different names of games?

Actually, I started up Brawl and discovered that some of the songs that I thought were marked "original" actually weren't, so if an "original" song was uploaded as being from Brawl, you can just either delete it if there's already a copy up (like Kirby's Airride - Frozen Hillside or Metroid Prime - Vs. Meta Ridley) or switch it over to its original game.

And I don't know about the region-different names. We'll have to figure that one out.

If youmean that yelow thing that says "Original!", yes. However, some songs have been slightly remastered, especially the Melee tunes. Listen to Super Mario Bros 3 (Melee) from Melee and then from Brawl, as well as Icicle Mountain, and Mother, for example.

Brinstar Depths has a noticeable difference between Melee and Brawl, that's where I caught the remastering first

Seriously, you need to change the first post that list of all the songs in Brawl, where it says X17, it says "Adventure Map (Ver 2)"or something. That should be changed to "Cruel Brawl".

Flame Hyneard. If it's painful to listen to a BRSTM because of all the screeches and stuff in it, I think it's safe to say that you need to find a different source for your music.

Do you think you could write a little 'guide' explaining what psf+variants are, and how/why to use them, where to get the plugins (possibly get them all together and I'll upload them in one file) and where the various sites that host these files are. You don't have to do it if you don't want to or don't have the time. I just thought it was something that needs to be done.

I think it's because I equalize a song twice instead of once. On my end, I do hear the songs better without being crackly than when I equalize them only once (with the sole exception of Blast Hornet, but you know how bugs can be noisy sometimes *get falcon punch'd*). I thought the doublequalizing method would work pretty good, but it doesn't work quite well on previews like on your site.

I'll re-upload those songs after equalizing them once.

I tested the songs I have doublequalized on my TV... Oh god they are so loud ! I didn't expected that result to happen. Those songs should be used when you have very good speakers on your TV :dizzy:

You would need to replace your NTSC-U brsar with the NTSC-J brsar. You would need to download the ISO for NTSC-U and NTSC-J brawl and extract the brsar from NTSC-J and replace it in the NTSC-U brawl ISO. You would then need to use Riivolution to use the brsar, burn the disc(DVD-R disc), or use a USB loader. I am not sure if i am allowed to talk about these things on swf. If this is against the rules please let me know and I will promptly edit my post.
