Sorry if this is the wrong place, it's been a while, and the new subcategories are kind of specific, so...

Anyway, this whole thread here is about an idea I had (i'm probably not the only one), that I basically got the moment Dedede was announced.

Boss Battles btw Characters, as a special way to play against friends and such. Basically, you'll be playing matches against friends the way the characters fought them in their original games. Note, that these are usually challenges to the characters playing the heroes, not the baddies, as the heroes will be restricted. The villains? Not so much.

These are all Stamina Matches. If you're having reservations about the characters (mainly the bosses themselves) flinching, you can make it Metal Stamina.

Well, show by example, the best way to get my drift along is to show it.

The info of the battle will dicate hero/villain restrictions and other important tibits.

Note that, unless otherwise noted, sidestep or in place dodging is probably not going to be allowed (no shielding either), though of course the rest of the characters' agility is most certainly allowed. Mainly, characters can dodge only if a boss' attack is too aggressive (remember, most times the hero can't counterattack or do anything).

If a player (hero or boss) falls of a stage, it's counts as a win for the other. That said, don't edgeguard. The fall should be mainly of the player's own folly.

Computer Compatability (CC) is how easy it is to do this battle against the computer.

Battle 1: Mario vs Bowser
  1. Normal:
Location: Any stage that doesn't have traps really, though I prefer Luigi's Mansion for atmosphere
    Items: None
Recommended Health Ratio: At least 2.5 to 1 in Bowser's favor (after all, it is Bowser)
CC: Depends on style used, but all are doable.
Info: Basically, it's the classic battle between Mario and Bowser. Mario's moves depend on your preference. You can do it Smash style and have all his moves intact. You can do it SMB style and only have his fireball allowed (and the leapfrog jump), or SMB3 style and have the Cape as his major weapon.
My favorite style is to do it SM64 style, and have it so that the only thing Mario can do is avoid Bowser and throw him, using only the backwards throw.
For Bowser's restrictions, he can do all of his moves, with most of his ferocity, as long as the players holds back just a bit, remembering that Mario cannot counter except with his designated move. However, feel free to get more vicious as the match goes on. For some added fun, try to use "boss like" motions, favoring certain moves at certain times/sequences, at least in the beginning.
For another added flair, Bowser can taunt every once in a while, after being hit, after scoring a powerful hit/combo. Not often, but every once in a while. Bowser can't be hit while taunting, and he must retreat a ways back to do so (like when he would roar angrily in the games). Mario can't be too close to him either, lest he strike the moment he finishes.
  2. In Lava
    Locale: Norfair
    Items: None
Recommended Health Ratio: About same, though probably a bit more in Bowser's favor.
    CC: Very doable.
Info: Here, we play SM64 style. Here's the catch though, your attack is not to throw Bowser to do damage, it's specifically to throw him into the various lava sprays, rises and waves that pop up on the stage. If you miss... well... don't make a habit of it. Basically, you're going to be doing alot of dodging.
For added fun, you might want to use more... "bossish" techniques as Bowser. Once again, nothing extreme, but little things, like... when they're only one or two platforms you can stand on, using the flamethrower (great for atmosphere) to edgeguard instead of something more... direct.
The whole Bowser taunting thing stands as well.
  3. Bobomb
Locale: Any place with a moderately long width. Plaforms optional as long as they don't drastically increase the vertical distance. Here horizantal distance is key.
Items: Bobombs, or Low or Medium.
Recommended Health Ratio: Same, but Healths should be higher. (as in 3/1 should be 300-100 instead of 150-50)
    CC: Very doable
Info: Here, the battle is mostly the same, though Bowser should ease up a bit and have more bosslike movements. Basically, after fighting awhile, more than a few Bobombs should've fallen onto the stage, which Mario and, unfortunately, Bowser, should avoid, though, if there's a platform, like in Smashville, Bowser can just use that and attack from/return there, though Mario has no such luck.
Every once in a while Bowser will pick up a few of these in a row and throw them at Mario (if they fall on the platform, should you decide to use it, you have to throw them). The only way to damage Bowser in this match is to either cape them back or, if you like a challenge, grabbing them in midair and throwing them back. The Bowser player should do this less as time goes on, giving the Mario player a gauntlet to get that last bit of damage.
As an optional added bit of fun, to end the match, the Bowser player may stop doing this action as he loses damage, instead choosing their own method of a last minute way to beat Bowser.

Battle 2: Kirby vs. Dedede
Locale: Melee Green Greens
Items: None / Depends* (see below)
Reccomended Health Ratio: Two to One in Dedede's favor.
CC: Low. The computer doesn't realize that Kirby can't fight back.
Info: The battle that started this idea. The original plan was for Kirby to spit back Waddle Doos and Dees that Dedede threw, but, since he can't do that... I had to reconsider.
Basically, Kirby and Dedede fight against eachother. As in the games, Kirby can't suck Dedede up, or fight him in any way. Instead, every once in a while, Whispy will drop apples. Your way to damage Dedede is to throw these apples at him.
Note: This truly only happens once in a while. You're in for a long fight.
Dedede can use all of his moves except the normal grab (use the inhale instead). However, the Dedede player should mob the Kirby player, remembering that Kirby can't fight back. At all. Also, since Dedede was given so much of his moves from the game, it'd be a crime not to give them some love. Every once in a while try to use one of his move sequences from the games: doing the Hi-Jump once or twice in a row, running up to Kirby and Inhaling/Dash attacking (falling to the ground, gotta love Sakurai); or doing a few of his newer moves, maybe throwing a few Waddle Dees/Doos/Gordos in a row. Kirby's free to Inhale them.
* The other way to play is to choose a Kirby form and stick with it. If you choose Stone Kirby use only the Stone ability, if you choose Hammer use the hammer, etc. If you choose sword, enable the sword item (hence the Depends above), and use only the sword attacks and Final Cutter. A few items can thus be used that way (such as the Fire Flower). No bombs. No Warp Star. Feel free to make up Bat Kirby (no Home Runs, though you'll probably never get them off anyway) or Fan Kirby. Optionally, losing an item is the same as losing a power in the games, and, since is a Boss Battle, you won't be getting it back.

Battle 3: Kirby vs Meta Knight
Locale: Halberd
Items: Sword on Low
Recommended Health Ratio: Close, no more than 1.5 - 1 in favor of Meta Knight. Healths should be high, though
CC: Doable, except for the beginning
Info: The classic battle against Meta Knight that started in Kirby's Adventure. Here Kirby must wait for the sword item, and then use it against Meta Knight. Kirby can only use the sword moves, the normal (no direction) aerial attack, and the Final Cutter. You can also throw the sword at Meta Knight, though note that this leaves you defenseless until you can pick it up again.
If you lose the sword, feel free to pick it back up. You can't attack without one.
Meta Knight has few restrictions. The main one is, wait to attack until Kirby picks up the sword for the first time (which the computer won't do). However, you can continue to attack if you loses/throws the sword mid fight. Since Meta Knight is conducive to a continuous, aggressive strategy, one might ask not to be so aggressive as Meta Knight, but your whole array of attacks are at your disposal.

Feel free to post other boss battle ideas.

Waiting for you to slip up.
Link vs. Ganondorf. A sword fight. Ganondorf can only use his...

Down taunt and mindgames. Have fun!

Good god, man! You are teh massive awesomeness!!!

Here's one:

Star Fox: Assault Style!

Any Star Fox Character against the other.

Stage: Any stage as long as it doesn't have any true stage hazards.

Items: Guns only, Super Scope, Ray Gun, you name it.

Health Ratio: High for Falco, Low for Wolf, and Medium for Fox.

Info: Well, this is simple enough. Players may only use their Normal B moves (Blaster) and gun items, set on medium. Stamina match, and single jump only. I based the Health ratios on Star Fox: Assault Statistics.

ZOMG POKEMON BATTLE!!!

Players available: Pokemon series characters.

Stages: Pokemon Stadium (1 and 2).

Ratios: Normal

Items: No items, except maybe Pokeballs on very low.

Info: Well, this can be done single OR team. The second one is more fun, though. You play as any of the Pokemon characters against the others. However, you cannot freely move about: This is TURN BASED action, meaning you and your opponent take turns in attacking. Fights must stay on the stage and only B moves are allowed. There must always be at LEAST one Pokemon Trainer on each team. He may only switch when their Pokemon look tired.

I did something similar to this, except it wasn't really a "boss battle"... It was, instead, a recreation of the chapter "HEIST" in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Yes, I realize that Conker isn't in Smash, but it still worked out ok. A created a custom stage using the indoor, technological-based map, at medium size. I placed to medium sized pillars near the edges of the stage, blocks at the top of the screen, and vertical floating platforms on each side next to the pillars--then, I turned the stopwatches and ray guns to high on item setings, went to SPECIAL BRAWL, turned on Stamina, and turned on bunny ears, as well as angled fixed camera.

I put bunny ears on so when your moving in slow motion you aren't restricted to much--this is akinda poor recreation of "HEIST", but kinda fun as well. Try to restrict yourself to just battling with the raygun. Computer opponents usually cooperate pretty well in this--try it if you want, but you probably won't appreciate it one bit unless your a fan of Conker..!

Here is a Pokemon Idea, but not as restrictive:

Pokemon royale:

Location: either Pokemon stadium

CC: high (duh, it's a simple match)

Health: depends on the Pokemon (Squirtle has 100, Ivysaur has 120, Charizard has 140, Pikachu has 100, Jigglypuff has 180 [i know, it's weird], and Lucario has 130. Health is based of the lowest amount a lvl 50 Pokemon can have. Numbers based from Serebii.net)

Rules: think of this as a standard match. The only rules apply to the P. Trainer, as he cannot switch at all. This is only a one on one match, so no teams (for P. Trainer's sake).

Luigi vs. Mario, the Mario Bros. stage (the one with the shellcreepers and sidesteppers). Luigi fighting for the honor.
*Who's the little brother now?!*

Rules: too lazy to write them...

Mario VS Sonic

Location: Either Mushroomy Kingdom or Green Hill Zone.
Items: None
Recommended Health Ratio: Both characters have 1 HP
CC: Nope, can't do this one with computers
Info: The classic Mario VS Sonic battle. Who's the TRUE king of the platformers?

Variant 1:
Both characters are restricted to single jumps and Footstool Jumps. Every time one player lands a successful Footstool, the other player has to kill themselves. For best results, try this in Stock mode.

Variant 2:
Mario can now use Fireballs, and Sonic can use his dash attack. As before, a successful Footstool Jump "kills" the other player, as does getting hit by the other player's attack.
