That's kinda neat. I was just reading about hikikomori a few days ago.

Yeah, if you have the desire to come outside, come to a McFest or something, Sunny. Even if you don't find yourself striking up conversation with everybody there, you'll at least get a bit of interaction through the act of playing Brawl and commenting on play with your opponent. Just know that you can't really embarrass yourself or invite judgment when you're around us. Dan threw a hissy fit about a pizza stain once, and we only make fun of him sometimes. As long as you're not prone to doing stuff like that on a regular basis, we're a judgment-free zone.

I mean, I know I wanna meet you.

Interesting, Sunny. I guess I've read about it plenty, but still... a person is not only a study or a report.

Here's my, overly confident, way of looking at it: Duh! People are going to be judging you. We need to do it for more than entertainment means, it's our survival instinct to just do it and make assumptions about people. If you're gonna be judged about anything, make sure it's about things you enjoy and can wear with pride. Of course, this goes deeper than mere sayings, and more mentality. That is just something you're gonna have to work though.

And we can help. Seriously, come to an event or thing one time (and on upcoming events in general, NDK is probably your best bet), and you'll find out that unless you have a 4th eyeball or can lick your elbow, we won't be astranged to you as long as you aren't to us. Mutual respect, ya know?

We all have our 'being-judged' weaknesses though, and we all hide it different ways. I admit, I hate to let my nerdy-self really out in the open, and I'll pretty much will NOT wear anything gamer-esque or say that I don't know anything about anime, etc., to most. I just think it's cooler to focus and talk about other things, and have that second nature if it comes up. Where as some of us don't hide anything at all, and others, as you know, hide completely.

I suppose if you can function fine with your lifestyle, I have nothing to argue against it.

If you know you can be doing more, then feel free to reach more.

At least I can say this: Thanks for making that Sunny actually exist, even if you don't show up. ;)

Anyywhoooo..
I'm a hikikomori/hermit.

Hikikomori are hardcore anti-socialist, that confine themselves to there room for months on end. Are minds are incredibly out of whack... In my case, i'm incredibly paranoid. I always have this stupid feeling that everyone around me is judging me in the worst way possible, or that i'm just being a nuisance to others. In other words, its an incredibly overwhelming lack of confidence in myself that causes this.
With my insomnia I'm alone for sometimes 9 hours for several nights in a row and sleep much of the day so I sort of understand the isolation.

Sometimes, as you've learned, you have to Walk Unafraid and just do stuff, notions of judgement or failure be d***ed.
(That song was inspirational for me).

And Colorado officially makes it out of pools! Go Fishbait!

We love you Fishbait!

I don't know you Sunny, but some individuals are just a stark contrast to the society that we have formed in this past century. Now it's common place for people to stretch out and have hundreds of friends; conversely a few generations ago, friends were counted by the handful. You're different and that's fine. Not everyone needs to have social interaction to survive; however, if you wish to strive to find connections with people, you must come to terms that everyone is constantly categorizing the individuals that they meet. It's the human brain doing what evolution has trained it to do. Just realize that the opinions of others only hold as much weight as you are willing to give them. As long as your mannerisms are consistent with being civil and kind, society shan't reject you during your visits.

I've never heard of this condition, but if you ever do decide to come out and join us for a smashfest Sunny, you'll be shown the utmost kindness, I'm sure of it.

Was it wrong of me to immediately google that guy to get him as a reaction image when I saw it on The Colbert Report?

@Sunnysunny I think I know how you feel. I have depression which was undiagnosed for most of my life and caused me to have no friends until high school--I'm lucky that there are medicines now that vastly reduce both the frequency and the intensity of my episodes. I also have an irrational phobia of loud noises, because I always feel like someone is using the noise as a cover to sneak up behind me, regardless of how unlikely/impossible that actually is (which is frustrating because I understand that it is an irrational fear: I am not afraid of being attacked from behind or anything, just being snuck up on). This was so bad that for much of my life I was unable to even flush a toilet because I couldn't take the noise.

Come to EoD@Q. We will play Melee and/or Brawl with you, and you will be with at least one person who can empathize with you. In my experience, no matter what your afflictions, if you accept and understand them as a part of your identity, you will feel more confident in expressing your identity, afflictions and all. And the more confident you are in expressing your identity, the more people will come to accept and understand it, even if your identity includes uncommon conditions.

I know that your declaration took a great deal of courage, and that is a great and bold first step in overcoming the obstacles you face in life.

Well Genesis turned out awesome just as I knew it would.

I envy Fish sooo much that he was able to go.

Next major tourney's are KTAR 6 next month, and Apex at the start of 2012.

IDGAF about the same old people winning. except godammit M2K won again. I hate it when he wins... he's like the worst possible person to represent the smash community.

also he sandbagged in pools against a girl to try to get some lol

I want to know about like... how trela and the japanese did
