I'm a new player who doesn't want to be a typical n00b. I just got Brawl, and I never played Melee. The ability to play online is what drew me to Brawl (and everyone saying how great Melee was). I'm doing OK so far, (I'm not a button masher) but I don't have any idea when it comes to all of the different terminology and strategy that everyone here talks about. I'm wondering if there's a some sort of guide for people who have never played SSB before that talks about stuff like wave dashing (which I know you can't do in Brawl) foxtrotting, edge guarding, hugging, reverse ariel rush, and all this other stuff and why it's important. Everything I've seen assumes a knowledge of Melee when talking about Brawl stuff. I need something that starts pretty much from square one. If there's not something like that, some of you SSB experts should put something like that together. Thanks for the help.

Alright, go to www.smashwikia.com and look around at the techniques to understand some of the past terminology. Many techniques for Brawl have yet to be discovered, but just browsing the tactical forums will be of a great help as well as clicking on the stickied thread that talks about the moves. If you ever need any help PM or IM me...I am an addictive Smasher and memorize pages of data from characters weights to glitch information to the hitboxes and how much each move will KO at.

I would also like to see a comprehensive guide for people who never got into the professional/tournament part of Melee. I played Melee a lot, but I'm a complete n00b when it comes to Melee's advanced techniques, and that goes for Brawl as well. I know that, if I search around, I could probably learn about Melee's ATs and even the ones that have been discovered in Brawl, but it's really frustrating not having one sort of "main" or "official" guide, as I don't know what is speculation, what is old information, or what is new information. I haven't been around in the community (as an active member) for very long, and I don't really know what's what or who's who.

So, to sum that up, yes I agree that someone should write a "definative" guide for all thing Brawl.

Yea I for one would also like to see some sort of guide for noobies. I'm not a humongous noob anymore but I know at one point I was. While there is a plethora of information out on the boards and various sources the onyl things I could are now outdated. Otherwise the 1up guide is useful but its updated slowly and I would like to see somethings from prominent board members.

The only guides I could find useful are the 1up one, current new technique thread and outdated gfaqs melee guide.

However there is still nothing to help REAL noobs who need to know what fair, dair, DI, and other terms are.

Well this right here will give you the basics of stuff. Its from melee so some of the stuff isnt included in brawl but youll understand a majority of stuff. http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=42749

These are Advanced: How to play tutorials: once again from melee but it definitely helps alot..
Part 1:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n4s5yB7ZkE
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiZLs2doK8E&feature=user
Theres a 3rd part, theres only 3 techniques on there and none of them are in brawl.

Hope this helps, there really isnt anything for brawl yet because it just came out besides the compilation of advanced techniques.

Thanks for the help CO18. I guess since brawl and melee are pretty similar old jargon will be fairly common.

They aren't really all that similar...

What I'm trying to say is this: Keep in mind that most of the advanced techniques don't work anymore.
