As I've stated before a lot of it is subjective but your perception would obviously help.
I consider myself on the lower end of Dr Mario players who has proven able to place decently and win against fairly notable players against a local level. From personal observation, I think Woingespottel is a more skilled player than me, and my placing is somewhat reflective of that.
I've heard (somewhat vaguely) that he has consistently placed pretty well locally. But I don't know his regional meta.
Well, this sounds a bit like I'm going on a witch hunt, but whatevs.
He only attends my locals, which are anywhere between 25 and 40 players. Sometimes a notable name like cyve shows up, but usually not - usually we have 3-4 players who would place Top16 at a national, and then the level drops rapidly.
SiS#1 - He did not attend this event.
SiS#2 - August 2015 - He drowned in pools and then lost in round 1 of the "amateur bracket" which we play (single elimination for everyone who didn't get out of pools)
SiS#3 - November 2015 - He drowned in pools and then got 3rd at the "amateur bracket". He did not beat any notable players in this tournament. Only notable result is a 0-2 against Koyu, a top 20 ranked Pit player in Germany.
SiS#4 - Also November 2015 - Did not attend
SiS#5 - This is when my locals started gaining a lot less attention due to not being a novelty in the area anymore. Before this, we had 40 people attending every Event and top5 always consisting of notable German players. Here is Spottels first notable result, 9th place.
Let's analyze Spottels placement here.
His pool consistend of Koyu, KingKev, BigBadWolf, SANNY and Didi. He lost to Koyu and won against the rest.
Koyu, again, being a notable Pit (and by now Corrin) player in Germany.
KingKev, BigBadWolf, SANNY and Didi are not notable players on a national level. Unfortunately we do not have an up to date power ranking on a national level (I'm working to fix this), but you need to remember that a national level over here in Europe is comparable to a "state" over in the United States. We're not that big.
After leaving pools with a second place seeding, he proceeded to:
- lose 0-2 against me, and I usually place around 33rd at our 128 man "nationals"
- 2-0 win against Malte41, who was a newcomer R.O.B.
- 1-2 loss against Meutrich, who is a Sheik that places similarly to me
Unfortunately I have to say that winning against Malte41, Didi, SANNY, BigBadWolf and KingKev does not make you a notable player in Germany. These names mean about as much to the average German player as they do to you - I love these guys and they attend my locals, but they're just not relevant (yet, until they grind it up, which they do here!).
Now last Saturday we had SiS#6. Spottel placed fifth! That's good, right?
Let's have a look at that:
His pool consisted of Moussa, Samu, OmegaPerfect and Caneki.
The only "notable" player here could be Moussa. Let's take his placement from the national at the end of March, PPT.
Moussa placed 49th at the 150 man "supernational" we had. 2 months prior to that, he placed 25th at a 100 man national.
Spottel got 0-2'd by Moussa, then won against the rest (Samu is the only person on that list who didn't attend his first tournament in SiS6 - that was Samus second one). The rest will be as unknown to the average German player as to you (again, no offense intended, I love these guys, but we're trying for healthy self-perception here).
That means Spottel survived the pool phase, and subsequently:
2-0 Liquidmars (local Mario player)
1-2 Kweet (very notable Meta Knight player, and he did take a game off of him! That's cool!)
2-0 Caesurios (a very fresh and new Cloud player)
2-0 Samu
0-2 Moussa
Now I'm noticing a theme here.
In January 2016, I created a Power Ranking for our region. It is out of date, as it did not include SiS5 and SiS6 (I will sit down and actually update the ranking now, I'll come back to you later).
Now my Region, Baden-Württemberg, is one of 16 regions in Germany.
In this region, in January 2016, Spottel was ranked 20th.
The only person he beat since then that was ranked above him in that PR was Didi (17th) and BigBadWolf (19th).
If you look at it, he achieved rank 20 without ever surviving the pool phase, and now he started getting outta those, so take that into account.
I'll update the PR, especially since it's hard to reflect on how good the newcomers in our region are, and I'll get back to you.
I'm not trying to bash on Spottel here at all, but I hope you now understand that I really did gasp out loudly at his placement in your list right next to Nairo over there, because that's not what I've seen from him so far. To be fair, I also really don't know any other Doc players. Maybe there's just too few of you.
Edit: Just updated my powerranking.
Spottel's now 11th in this 1/16th Region of Germany.

(please note that due to the local nature of this PR, activity is a factor as well as skill - cyve is the most skilled player in this list.)
