The Press Start Smash Bros tournament is the biggest SSBB tournament in Brazil, and occurs in annually at the Anime Friends event. This year (2009) it occurred during days 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, 19 of July and was organized by the PowerShield Smash group.
The entry fee for the tournament was of 10 R$ (Reais) though all participants had to pay additional fees varying from 0 R$ (VIPs only) to 30 R$ depending on the day and payment options for gaining entry in the Anime Friends event.
The SWF v.2 ruleset was applied, though the matches were mostly single bracket eliminations. Those who were eliminated were allowed to compete at the following days. The winner from each day was invited for the grand finals on 19 July. The grand finals were disputed in double bracket elimination fashion. Those who were eliminated were allowed to compete at the following days. During days 18 and 19 the champion and the vice were invited to the grand finals.
On day 12 however, occurred a crew battle were no player was appointed. As I’ve found no ruleset model for crew battles in SWF, I will list the rules applied:
- Single Bracket elimination;
- Crews with 4 to 5 members, each crew with a 15 stock share. Each player could have from 3 to 4 stocks;
- Double blind pick of players and stage banning;
- Only neutral stages allowed. The crew cannot conterpick stages in which they have already won in the same set, “Random” was viable as a stage counterpick choice capable of overriding the previous rule;
- Each player is limited to use one character for each set;
- The first crew to lose all its stocks is eliminated.
