Probably why I haven't seen it, then. I pretty much only watch Forward, Zhu, Mango, DSW, and Lambchops when it comes to Falco players. I've seen Eggz and Silent Wolf play, but their games weren't very memorable to me.

hey, i was wondering how do you guys Sh laser? do you laser at the beginning of the hop or at the top of your hop, I can't seem to get the laser out at the beginning, also do you guys roll your thumb between Y and B to make it faster? or does the lifting lag just get smaller as you practice - thanks!

I do X -> B. You have a large enough frame window to shoot that it shouldn't really matter what you use. You are ideally firing ASAP (6 frames after hitting jump, the first airborne frame), but you can be up to 4 frames late on that and still fire with a perfect fast fall (13 frames until the first airborne laser, 17 airborne frames in a frame perfect fast fell short hop). Just practice a bit and you'll figure out the timing, I'd actually guess you're hitting B while you're still in the startup frames of your jump (frames 1-5), which would prevent the laser from firing, but it's sorta impossible for me to know without seeing the problem.

hey mogwai, I really like falco's play style, but I can not STAND how easy he is to gimp. Allow me to elaborate, I falco ditto'd kevinM forgetting he's a huge homo and will exploit me for everything I'm worth. So he got me off the stage like a pro and kept me off the stage like a pro.
Any advice for a young falco just leaving the nest on not getting off the stage? I know it sounds simple but anything.

yea, I actually have tons of advice for recovering. Falco's recovery is actually really good in the grand scheme of things, you just need to understand all your options and how to make your opponent miss. I will be writing the next lesson of Mogwai's Falco School on Recovery tonight, thanks for lighting a fire under my *** to make me get on it.

thanks mogwai, i believe that was the problem - i wasnt sure if it was just me or if there was actually these startup frames on the jump

haha I agree. I think that with proper DI and smart decisions falco does make it back to the stage regularly.

But he is gimpable the a mofokka tho.

:) falco ***** lol

i dont understand why people think falcos recovery isnt so bad :\ i know its not as bad as it first appears and he has a fair few options to still give him a chance of getting back on stage, but that doesnt mean his recovery isnt a lot worse than most characters when they employ their own tips and tricks.

no, because most characters have fewer legitimate options for recovering. Most characters don't have an up B that can be pointed in all 360 degrees, a forward B with variable distance, etc. I'll elaborate more in the lesson, check for it by tomorrow or Friday.

falco recovers fine. I think the problem is that he is easily gimped and ppl mistake that for not being able to get back to the stage.

even tho they are similar lol

This annoys me greatly

I can wavedash perfectly with my main (doc) but I just can't wavedash consistently with falco, he keeps jumping

I've tried all different timing combinations, made sure I hit the jump first and then airdodge, did it in place, it just isn't working

Mogwai or any other falco main, how do you do retreating shl without doing rshl?
uhhhhhhhhhhhh, wut? plz 2 read first post, if you're still confused, I'm still confused.

There's simply not a lot I can tell you other than to practice. Doc is airborne on frame 4 or 5 of his jump, and Falco is airborne on frame 6, so the timing is slightly slower for Falco's, just suck it up and practice.

Quick question(s) Mogwai = D
1. For the pillar, and yes, another pillar question. I don't really understand the physics of melee.. and the frames.. its easier to understand simply putting it in an overview. When i pillar, and I don't really know if its me not getting ust' to the gamecube controller (i'm a brawl falco player that uses the classic), but when I try to pillar I can maybe 20% chance get a good nair or Dair out of it.. is there a simple trick to it or just practice?

2. Is this statement true, the key to winning, and I quote " MOAR LAZERZ "?!

3. Sign my gamecube controller? I give u cookiez k?

I have a question, when pillaring, when do you shine and when do you up-tilt?
pillaring is shield pressure. don't use utilt to pressure shields unless you're behind them and at least 95% sure they're going to shffl out of shield.

Yeah, guess you're right
I'm always right. cept when I'm wrong, which I'm not on this topic

uh, I don't understand what you mean by 20% chance that you get a good nair/dair out of it... like, 20% chance that your shield pressure will result in a dair/nair shield stabbing or what? and what's happening the other 80% of the time.

2. Is this statement true, the key to winning, and I quote " MOAR LAZERZ "?!
you can't just quote no one like that. since you previously said you were a brawl Falco, I'd say that the key for you winning would be MOAR MUVEMENT 'N COBMOES KTHXBAI

3. Sign my gamecube controller? I give u cookiez k?
sounds fair to me. I will sign anyone's controller for cookies.

how far can a falco go with just lasers and fmash?
not very far. add in utilt and we're cooking with gasoline though!

hey mogwai i'm considering switching mains to falco and i have been playing him in friendlies but dont do great since i have only played him seriously for a couple days

im wondering in friendlies what should i be focusing on implementing techniques, getting comfortable with the hitboxes on his moves, ect ect i guess core things to get used to is what i'm asking for

also for recovering vs. c.falcon i'm having trouble getting past his b-air or d-airs, what are some other options to switch up my recovery game

What are you doing that's getting hit by dairs/bairs?

Also, I'm in the middle of writing another lesson in Mogwai's Falco school about recovery (that's right, I've actually started, go me!), so just keep an eye on this thread, I expect I'll post it around Sunday night.

Whenever picking up a new character, you should just watch some videos of good players with that character to see the general game plan with them and then just sorta experiment with everything you see to get a feel for the character. I don't really know what you're looking for when you ask for the core things... it's Falco, you just shoot them a bunch and combo them a bunch. You can check the first post of this thread for Laser ideas and when it comes to comboing, I'd suggest just watching Shiz/Foward's combo videos and Shiz/Forward/MaNg0's matches.

generally if i try to up-b and sweet spot the ledge c.falcon will just jump off the stage and b-air me while im charging and the same with illusions

i was considering trying to use the shine to stall but i think that would only work once

it does, I wish I had G$'s Genjitsu so that I could just jack your powers T_T

MaNg0, I never see your Falco utilt, why don't you ever use it? I'm legitimately pretty curious about that cause I love utilt and it makes me sad to see the best Falco not use it very much.

fact: you cant be doing both simultaneously. you cant be wavedashing AND shl/pillaring simultaneously you just choose whats best in a certain situation, if its wavedashing, shl, pillar, or anything else.

been playing falco for ages but learning all the upper metagame techniques, i've become ******** i think lol.

i cant for the life of me remeber how to reverse shl while keeping your momentum traveling the same direction.

also, my jadedness as a falco player has made me stubborn so instead of going and practicing the technique to figure it out (cuz thats wut n00bs do) i just ask here >_>

You're probably letting go of the run too soon, like letting the control stick go before you jump. Or, at least, that's what I used to do.
