THE TIME HAS COME!!!
TOURNAMENT MAY BE PUSHED TO NEXT YEAR FOR BETTER PLANING AND MORE HYPE. A SMASH FEST MAY TAKE THE PLACE OF THE TOURNAMENT FOR THOSE WHO FEEL LIKE THEY REALLY WANTED TO DO IT THIS YEAR. FURTHER INFO WILL BE GIVEN ON THE 10th ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AS IT TURNS OUT, THE TOURNAMENT WILL BE PUSHED TO NEXT YEAR FOR BETTER PLANING

, SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.
Saunders Secondary school's cancer campaign is right around the corner and students and teachers are coming up with ideas on how we are going to raise some cash for cancer research.
Last year in April, Saunders hosted a private smash tournament for the students to attend at a cost of $2. The amount raised was $180.00 and the prize, a $25 gift card to E.B. Games (Game Stop).
Since it was the first time Saunders had hosted a tournament, it was a tad sloppy and unorganized.

This year, we want to do things differently.
This year, we want to open up to the public so players outside of the school can attend and raise more money.
Although, there are a few issues that need taking care of.

-Problem 1~
This is the first large public tournament that we have hosted. Meaning that we would need the help of the smash community to organize this event with as little errors as possible. Those of you who have organized or helped organize a large tournament before, are encouraged to give input and ideas.

-Problem 2~
We still need the permission from the Thames Valley District School Board to host the tournament at the school outside of school hours.
UPDATE!!! WE HAVE A TEACHER THAT IS WILLING TO HELP WITH THE TOURNAMENT SO ALL WE NEED NOW IS PERMISSION TO USE THE GYM AND WE ARE GOLDEN!!!
-Problem 3~
We would need to come up with a plan for the prize for winning the tournament. The fact that the purpose of this tournament is for raising money to help fight cancer, we need to know what the entry fee would need to be and where to use the money. eg; paying for custodial service, management, and of course, the amount raised. It would really help if we could have volunteers to help manage. Especially, since students who require volunteer hours would be able to get credit for doing this.
UPDATE!!! THE POT BONUS WILL BE SPLIT IN HALF.
ONE HALF WILL GO TO THE CANCER CAMPAIGN, ANDT THE OTHER TO THE WINNER.
THE WINNER WILL BE GIVEN THE CHOICE TO ETHER DONATE THE WINNINGS TO THE CANCER CAMPAIGN/OTHER CHARITY, OR, TO KEEP THE WINNINGS.

-We were also hoping to get one or two streams going to increase the hype.

If this tournament is very successful, there is a big chance that it will happen again next year or even sooner for some of our smaller fundraisers.

Contact me with any ideas and input you have to make this happen!!

  1. Get permission from the TVDSB first if you can host the tourney during after-school hours.
  2. Ask for cubes and tv's: they can easily be provided by attendees, you can always give them a discount fee for bringing said equipment.
  3. Find out how much you would need to pay custodial service, management, etc for after-hours work.
  4. Volunteers are always a good way to trick students into free labor ensure that you get people who will want to help.
  5. Prize: you could do prize money for the top 3. Since you are raising money and paying for management, you obviously need to divide it and know the cost for these things beforehand (have a set fundraising goal, know what after-hours labor costs).

Maybe add brawl.
if it is a go, we will be thinking about adding Brawl singles and teams as well as PM. our gym is very large and divides into 4 parts. we can have the different games hosted in each section of the gym.

That might help gain more entrants as long as you have enough tvs and such.

There are quite a few people who play Brawl/ PM/ Melee in Toronto.

once we know how many tvs the gym can hold , we can have a discount for those who bring in systems and tvs. although, the school has many tvs in it but i am not sure if the teachers will be willing to let us use them.

Do you have a set location for this event just yet? Also what is the predicted start-end time for both Friday and Saturday?

Why does it have to be next year? There are still 2 months left in the school year.
yes but the reason that we were doing the tournament in the first place was for our cancer campaign and that is only for a month.
