Since there isn't a guide out there to learn how to Up+B Cancel I thought it would be helpful to make one.

Up+B Cancel is an extra move that doc has, why not start using it?

So here it is http://youtu.be/oWMDcnbPgy0 Let me know what you guys think.

Also, discuss any thoughts about it, or if you find a beneficial time to use it!
Hey, thank you very much for this little video much appreciated! I'm a little on the fence for usage right now but I've been silfting through comments and getting a much broader understanding of where I can use this to it's best potential. Regardless great video man!

This is incredibly helpful and terrific; I never knew this existed. I can't wait to practice this and make my friends hate Dr. Mario even more. You're the best. :)

Hey folks so I asked Mr.Lemon this at a tourney earlier this week, and he said he didn't know so I was hoping somebody else could help me out.

Does anybody know the specific reasons why Mario can't do an UpB cancel? I really love Mario right now but UpB cancels are just too sick to ignore so I was hoping to find an answer for this...

Thanks!

I cant seem to get the cancel to work. I don't have the fastest hands (but I can still multi shine and super wave dash) but no matter how hard I try I can't do this. I even turned the speed to 1/2 in training still no luck

Make sure you're Up+bing into one direction (top right for example) then as soon as you hit B push the joystick to the top left then let it go. This is more of a flicking motion that anything. If doc up+b's like normal you probably didn't move the joystick to the left fast enough, if he turns around but up+b's like normal than you probably didn't let go fast enough.

So part of the trick is letting go of the joystick? That might be why it didn't work. I was using it more as like a smash from right to left

I know the Doc boards are dead but I realized that I never posted this in this thread

My method that is super consistent for me mid-match. up B -> QC to right -> slam stick left.
You MUST hold left at the end. works facing both directions, so no street fighter syndrome
opposite probably works if that's easier for you.
as long as you're fast enough, it's 100%
watch video at half speed to see it more easily.

So SSBM Tutorials did another video for this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TnPsvGawAo

They added the Ledge UpCancel.

Anyways, I've read a lot of discussion for the execution of the move. I believe every doc main should know by now, and the only thing they need is practice. Now, I would like for people here to discuss their applications for the move. If you've found any.
I'm yet to become good at the combo game for doc, but I have worked on edgeguards and upb cancel situations.
Here I'll link some applications I've done with the upb cancel in different occasions. Feel free to discuss, for I would like doc mains to still be able to advance the meta of this character.

UpB Cancel out of down air upair combo to tech chase fair:

Up Cancel style on FF in PS tree, potential tech chase situation:

In this one though, you can see a lot of oos situations were I use the upb cancel.
At https://youtu.be/U17zXRhIo6s?t=5m55s you can see me using it to cover a punish of a dash attack on the back of my shield, which could've lead to some uair strings, but I suck :p Shortly after I upcancel oos from a kneee, which normally can't be punish right after because he can jab quickly (I proceed to tech chase to another upcancel, but dont get a platform follow up :( )
At https://youtu.be/U17zXRhIo6s?t=6m55s I apply the uair to upcancel combo, which again puts me in a follow up situation depending on the DI.
At https://youtu.be/U17zXRhIo6s?t=9m27s I Dthrow into a upcancel on the tech chase. Which works wonders if they end up in a platform. Shortly after I escaped pressure with another upcancel oos
And much more right after :)

I can post some more when I get the time, but I would like to know your insight on what situations can the upcancel be exploited.

Thanks for reading, I'm well aware this is dead already. Just trying to see if anybody is still lurking :)

Will definitely keep practicing this technique. Still sort of getting the hang of it, but as of now I can only execute it about 20% of the time. Most of the time I end up accidentally recovering in the reversed direction.

Until then, it’ll be time before I finally get the hang of it. The technique gives you a vital tool to one of Dr. Mario’s best OOS option, and combo starters.
