If they're gonna go a one pokemon per generation, Deoxys is the most likley for a 3rd gen-er followed by Blaziken. I'd like it to be Gardevoir but I'm realistic.

My guesses on who each of them would be is:

-Mewtwo
-Lugia
-Deoxys
-Arceus
-Genesect

Though just Mewtwo/ Deoxys/ Genesect would work fine. Considering Arceus is a god and Lugia...Well, he's the leader of the legendary birds I guess

I think that Deoxys actually would've had a good chance if there had been a Ruby/Sapphire remake recently. But now, I see Mewtwo and/or Genesect getting that coveted Pokemon spot.

This. If Deoxys hadn't been a Pokéball, I would have immediately thrown my support for it once the remakes were announced.

A shame really, as there's no other 3rd gen Pokémon I'd care to see playable.
