Lucas' Stick vs Ness' Bat

I was curious as a Lucas main & Ness being in my 2nd/3rd, (situational, varies) what are the differences between the stick & the bat? I know the stick comes out faster & I believe the bat has more KO power, my main curiosity is if they are the same range or not since I heard in older Smash titles Ness has more range with his bat so is this 100% true? In conclusion I'd love to know all the differences people know of :)
