Brawl is in no way more skill demanding than melee. Maybe spacing is more crucial in brawl than melee, but overall melee is a more skill demanding game. Both games aren't too complicated either though. The tech skill barrier makes it look harder than it is.

I just don't see how brawl is more difficult than melee.

the only reason you can get away with saying spacing is more crucial in brawl, is because brawl doesn't require a lot of technical skill.
the issue i have with that is that at top level of competition in melee, people aren't losing because of tech skill, while a lot of the time their spacing can still be questioned.

tech skill is only an obstacle for sub par players. (myself included).

this is the main difference between melee and brawl for me:

melee punishes harder

this means in melee, you have to win less encounters. because of the pace, it's much more exciting through and through. combos are awesome because you have to follow DI

in brawl, you have to win more encounters (unless you're playing ice climbers) which is more mentally taxing. because of the pace, the most exciting parts are when both players are fishing for KO moves at very high percents. since there are very few combos in brawl, you not only have to follow DI but also predict or react to the opponent's response after DI.

visual perks: tech skill is more impressive to watch, so melee is way better for spectators. in brawl, you have to actually know a lot about the game to be truly impressed with how good people are, especially ally. metaknight is very repetitive, so even though the players are impressive, everyone calls him gay rather than cool. watching snake ***** though <3

i'm a peach main, if ic's beat me, i just say they're better than me by enough to overcome the matchup.

one time i was playing chok at his house.
he beat my peach with ic's (at the time he was still a lot better than me).
so for the last match i went luigi even though i didn't really play him at all.
my decision was matchup based and it wasn't working.
he was up 3-1 on the stock count then i came back and beat him.
the match up is officially in luigi's favor now based on the flukiest of flukes
