The only way he'd be legal in tourneys is if.
A. Master Hand fights are only in stamina
B. Some percentage is picked to be considered defeated.

I don't know if TOs want to do that. Nor can I seriously see anyone want to try and main MH (he's way too easy to telegraph).
Unnecessary. He's far too telegraphed, every time it's like trying to hit with Falcon punch. I honestly can't see him ever getting a stock off a reasonable player, any other character will win via percent.

For a ban to be warranted because a character is "too good" the character actually has to be "too good", and his inherent advantages (aka, you'll never lose a stock) are nowhere near enough to compete with the other characters, so they should always win via percent.

Congrats to the new bottom tier, pichu mains rejoice, your character is not the worst in the game.

I think he would be banned for the sole fact that the matches would take up the full amount of time set for them...
I'd be willing to count his very use in a tournament match stalling

Ah, but the only reason that stalling is banned is because it's an automatic win when you have a percent lead over your opponent. There's not fundamentally illegal about a stall that basically guarentees losing.

The stalls that are banned have the ability to guarentee victory when your opponent has the percent lead, and while this can with the stock lead, the sheer patheticness of the characters means that is not an overcentralizing strategy, unlike other stalls have the potential to be.

Yea I understand the differences

I just don't want to be spending 16 mins (excluding the time it takes for them to actually perform the glitch) bashing on some dumb white glove x.x

This is an awesome glitch.

But the thought of him ACTUALLY being tournament legal is ridiculous.

Lol at the thought of people actually playing him.

He's also not on the character selection screen.
It's not that, it's the fact that no stages are bad for him (...if they load in the first place), it's impossible to take even a stock off of him, and yet he can't really "win" even if he KOs the opponent 4 times or gets a % lead and holds on to it for the full 8 minutes...or can he?

Master Hand for random tier. I'd use him for low tier tournaments XD

The fact that you can control him makes it seem like the designers purposely put him in, but at the same time, they obviously didn't want 4 people on the same team fighting with team attack on. That's why the fourth person is black- there was no need to put a different shade from the color palette because nobody ever expected more than 3 of the same character on the same team =P

Lol at the possibilities XD. How do you literally find this stuff?

So? Glitches and exploits need to be explicitly banned, they're not assumed banned until proven otherwise.

Why did Akuma need to be explicitly banned?

And technically he is, no character selected = master hand.

I think the black shading is actually used in the event match against Dark Link. I don't think it's a "dummy" shading but probably just the next possibility in some shading array.

Also, it's my understanding that any good tournament will assume that matches will always run to time when making a schedule anyway. That way, no matter how long matches run, you never run behind schedule. So how is Master Hand forcing that a problem?

Ok I've been trying to do the glitch on my melee and it isn't working. I think it's because it's the most recent versions; any confirmation?

O.K., I haven't seen this posted on this thread but I'm not quite sure. When Master Hand uses a move that needs to target something on Yoshi's Story stage, he targets the cloud platform. This is why he has such terrible targeting here. Although I haven't tried it, I assume that this is the same reason he has terrible targeting on Mushroom Kingdom II. He probably is trying to target the falling logs or the Pidgit.

I just flat out cannot do this. With either method.

I just re-bought a copy of Melee and it was in the "Greatest Hits" or whatever they call it for Nintendo's CD Case. So it might be a newer version....does this not work on the newer versions? I tried for like 30 minutes to do both but just couldn't do it....

I have the players choice version too, but I think there are still diifferent versions that have the "Player's Choice" at the top. I believe the version I tried it on is the newest version, so just persevere and make sure that you are doing the bug right.

Nope. I just can't do it. Are there more rules in doing this? More stipulations? I think the directions need to be more specific. I've checked out the video you have and the rules on that video differ from the rules here....you talk about controller ports in the video descript but not here...

I'm probably missing some vital ingredient to doing this that isn't on the front page and it's irrirating after trying for so **** long.

This is what I'm doing:

- Turns game on & goes to Melee in VS mode
- I set the rules to 3-Stock instead of time since I hate seeing that there over stock. Nothing else in rules gets changed.
- Controller is in port 1
- I select an NPC for Port 4 where there is no controller and set it to level 9 just so I have something to fight since the game probably won't let me go into stage select alone.
- In controller port 1, without selecting a character, I hover over the small area that would have displayed my name if I had selected one. I get ready to do the first step.
- Edit: I also have done this extensively in Controller port #3 and nothing.
- I press and hold A & B at the same time WHILE hovered over the name on the character selection screen.
- One second later I'm escorted out of the Melee mode and back toward the front screen where you select what type of fight you want.
- Within that one second time limit I'm given before the game takes the input that I'm holding the B button that I no longer want to play in "Melee mode" and exit that character selection screen I try to let go of the A Button as directed but still the same out-come...I'm thrown out of the character selection screen.

It does that over and over and over and over...I can't stay inside the name tag selection SUB MENU for more than a second before it pushes me out.

I tried the second way and same deal. What's wrong with what I'm doing? I'm hitting both buttons at the same time...as if it's that hard and something I could even REALISTICALLY screw up but same result over and over.

I'd really like to learn how to do this...I have a dazzle and I can make a video if you need with commentary from my microphone.

Put your controller in port three. That's the port that controls Master Hand - if the controller is in any other port the game will not default to Master Hand as it should, and you will just freeze.

EDIT: These are my findings. Version NTSC 2.0.
Loading any stage, out of 10 trials, I froze 2 times. Further testing with Final Destination alone produced 7 freezes out of 15 attempts - roughly half of the time. Obviously Master Hand is a rather impotent fighter in the other stages, my best non-Final Destination stage with Master Hand is Mute City.
It's important to note that I use the two-controller method (You know that thing called timing? Totally alien to me).

When you try doing the glitch with one controller, make sure you haven't selected a character, so be holding the P3 icon, go to name selection with it,hold down B, and press
A while still holding B, and soon you should hear the noise it makes when you are going back, and you should be taken back. Do the same thing, but press A right at the time you would normally hear the "back" noise, while still holding B.

Sorry, that is the best I can explain it :/

Ugh. It won't ****ing work.
I've tried so many times.

I'm using two controllers, one in port 2 and 3 on my Wii.
I use the port two player to select an empty character for player 3 so it doesn't touch character selection, then I choose a character with player two and move on over to the back button. Then I move the player 2 cursor over the name entry rectangle and press A and the same time with the player two controller. Can anyone please help?
it should be player 3
If this is a typo, just keep at it, it will work eventually, it took me a while to do when i first tried it too

I got it now, I didn't know you we're suppose to use the name entry not the box you press to get the list of names.

This is pretty interesting. Ive used this glitch myself (while fighting computers obviously, i dont' think my friends would be too thrilled fighting Master Hand), and i'm quite surprised that it works. I honestly expected this thread to be one of those threads where a random user posts something to get everyone hopeful/excited, and then a mod comes in and nails them. It seems that my hunch was wrong (for once).

Also, i've been wondering two things. One, how did it take them 7-8 years to find this glitch? I would've imagined that whoever found the glitch would've found it sooner, or maybe someone else would've, but i guess a reason would be that everyone is playing Brawl, not Melee right now (yes, i know, alot of people do still play Melee, like me). My second question is that, when you preform the glitch with two controllers, why does the game freeze after you choose a stage only if the character chip for the controller in port 3 appears?

All in all though, this was a very nice find. I don't really think anyone would be able to pull this off during a tournament, though. Instant disqualifications=fail.

1. Because most people don't usually go and look for glitches. It's usually pretty random stuff you have to do. So you could spend years doing random stuff and never find something, or find something. We just got lucky.

2. It couldn't be banned in tournaments. The only way would be for you to use him on a stage where is isn't visible (Corneria) and would be considered stalling. Then stuff happens.

I'm trying the continue screen thing on adventure mode rn... I just put him to one stock.

Also, i found another "glitch"(might just be a secret, but idk.):dizzy:

Go to training mode, and activate MH, and then reset it (not the Gamecube, the fight!!!). MH is now the left hand, all the moves reversed. He does the moonwalk when you do his down + L!

EDIT: When you lose your last life with MH in adventure, a Cape Mario trophy appears. It doesn't lock up at all.
