SSBDC++ ADDRESS : smash.servegame.com
BCDC++ DOWNLOAD: LINK HERE

Original thread is here

Well, now that brawl is out I think there should be more activity in the smash hub, also known as SSBDC++ run by WJ

Once it had 200 users, then 100 users, nowadays it's only 30-40 but we hope to see this rise, as the best players (melee) still go on the hub, it is the best smash chat available, with all due respect to the official smashboards IRC channel, but SSBDC++ has been around many many years longer than the IRC channel(which I believe, the IRC was created about a month ago)

This is just a simple guide on how to connect to the hub, shortened from WJ's original thread(which also lacks activity)

First and foremost, download BCDC++, there are many DC++ clients, but BCDC++ is the most convenient, you may find that here Download link is here

Make sure to have Winrar, or some other archiving program to unzip it, no installation is required, it is a hook type program so it will work wherever you extract it
Connecting to the hub
Open up DcPlusPlus.exe you should get something like this :

Description and email can be left blank, for nick put in the default username you want to use, this can be otherwise changed in favorite hubs section which I will now go onto

Click on the star, then click on "new" you should get this(I added in some words):

Password is only if you get your account registered, which is not in the least bit required, but if you don't want anyone to go on your name, contact WJ and he will create a password for you.

The most important is that you have smash.servegame.com in address, then click ok, then highlight the selection and click connect, and now you are in the hub!

Some other useful features are showing join/parts, and keeping logs, this may be found in settings, go to file, then settings, and I will show you where else here:

Lastly, there is sharing, sharing files is encouraged, but not required, if you want to learn more, go to WJ's guide which is found here

Rules:
Code:
- Use common sense, and please be respectful.

1) Do not spam or flood.
- excessive text, saying/pasting the same thing repeatedly, etc.

2) Do not harass other users, please be respectful.
- excessive flaming, etc.

3) Clones and impersonating other users will get you a ban.
- To avoid your nickname being taken you may register with the +regme command.
ex." +regme pass " where pass is your password of choice

4) Do NOT share child pornography, ****, snuff, or other illegal stuff.

5) Please don't be annoying or disruptive. This includes acting stupid on purpose, trying to bait an argument, typing with all caps repeatedly, etc.

6) Reporting is only allowed for serious repeated disregard of rules. reporting when rules are not broken may result in temporary kick or worse. reporting is also not necessary more than once for the same offense, such actions may result in either temporary or permanent ban.
- The report feature only exists because we know that the OPS can't be at their desk 24/7. When they do get back, they can see the report for themselves.

7) Don't have an excessively long or annoying nick.

8) Do not change your nick as it breaks people's queues and generally makes everything more complicated.
- the novelty is not worth the disruption.
- Don't complain about somebody downloading from you. If you're sharing the file, expect people to download it.
- Steps to resolve your bandwidth being sapped by an upload:
~ ask them politely if they can find the file somewhere else.
~ unshare the file that they're downloading.
~ close your client. that will stop the download.

9) "NO JOHNZZZ" - simply put do not whine and complain about the action taken against you. Any inquiries about your punishment may be discussed with the OP who gave the punishment via PM.
- Also do not discuss a users punishment in the main chat, this can be discussed Via PM. Talking about punishments in the main chat room, only tarnishes a person's reputation and is not respectful.

10) Do not tell OPs what to do, such as telling the OP how to do their job.

We're very lenient, so as long as you don't abuse the hub, you have nothing to worry about.
- Don't piss off the OPs and don't be lame.
- In most cases you will receive a warning before real action is taken.
ex. "<Smashbot> "User" has been warned because:________. If IT doesn't calm down IT WILL be kicked from the hub."
- If the user persists after warnings, then the following action may be taken: kennylize, mute, kick , permanent ban. all depending on degrees of severity.
- If you have been punished for breaking the rules, please respect the punishment. Failure in resulting to do so will result in permanent ban
ex. if you get kicked do not evade the kick, it is only 10 minutes its not the end of the world.
- Any punishments listed above are left at the discretion of the OP.
- The OPs are exempt from all rules and are always right.
- All Final Decisions are left to OP's.

When you are in the hub, it should look something like this:

You may change colors in settings to your liking if you would like

The smash hub is used for chatting, and some downloading, but I'd like it now to be used also for exchanging friend codes and challenging others in brawl, as it is already being used for this purpose!

Wow good job on that post with all the info and whatnot.

Yeah a lot of cool people hang out in the hub. It's mostly vets right now as opposed to the IRC, but don't worry most of us are newb-friendly ^_^

IRC sucks, and the hub has been around way..WAY longer than the IRC

It's like when Clinton proposed that Obama runs as VP, and yet Obama is in 1st place, Clinton is in 2nd.

People like M2K go on the hub, I don't think he's ever been on IRC

so DC++ is kind of like IRC? I'll look into this. Anybody know if they have a Firefox Plugin like IRC has Chatzilla? This would be cool.

I never heard of this. Sounds great to me; I will download DC++ for sure.

When theres nobody playing Melee with me at my place, I'll just go to the Hub and challenge anyone who want's to go at it in SSBB+ or simply to talk to the guys.

Thanks alot! I will try it right away!

I've never knew of this hub's existence, but I am more than wiling to give this a shot if it involves playing other fellow Melee enthusiasts.

This is weird; it won't let me connect to the room: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."

odd

Yeah, I'm getting that error too. I think the server might be down or something, I don't really know what's going on.

I actually thought for a moment that Sheridan actually had the power to ban me.

If you do, please don't ban me.
