Rules:

GENERAL RULES

/All matches will be best of three, with a seven-minute timer and three live. Items are set to offand none.
/This tournament is played double-elimination style.
/The Final Match will be best 3 out of 5, and NOT a free-for-all.

Doubles Rules

/Same as above except team damage is set to on and life stealing is allowed.

SET ORDER

/Step 1: Pick your character: In the case of a character selection dispute, double blind picking
may be requested. After the first match, the winner picks first, and each player can change their
character ONCE.
/Step 2: Pick your stage. For the first round, players will agree on a stage from the random stage
list. After the first round, the winner bans one stage, and then the loser picks the stage from either the random stage list or the counterpicks.
/Step 3: Once the final round is over, the winner is to report the results to a tournament
organizer.

STAGES

/Starter
Battlefield
Yoshi's Island
Smashville
Final Destination
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium (Melee)
Counterpick
Castle Siege
Delfino Plaza
Halberd
Frigate Orpheon
Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise
Norfair

All other stages are BANNED

OTHER RULES

/Stalling is banned. Stalling is defined as any actions that deliberately avoids all conflict as
to make the game unplayable. Running from an opponent to get to a better position is not
considering stalling, but using Sonic’s Neutral B repeatedly underneath the stage is.
/Standing infinites are only allowed up to an additional 50%.
/Metaknight’s infinite cape glitch is banned.
/For character-specific suicide moves (Bowser, DDD, Ganon, Kirby), if it’s done on the last stock, the character who initiated the move wins the match.
/In the event of a tie, determine by stocks, then percent. If a tie still exists, play a 1-stock, 3-minute match on the sames tage with the same characters to determine the winner.

For rule disputes, pause the game and contact a tournament organizer. Excessive abuse of this rule, however, will result in a loss or rematch. Pausing the game for any other reason will result
in a forfeit

Oh goodness, a little rude there!...that's ok, I'll forgive you this time ^_^
No, this is not our first tournament. We decided, we wanted to be a bit flexible with the stages. And as far as team damage, we want people to take playing as a team seriously. If you're aware of what you're doing it shouldn't be a problem. You know...just don't hit your team members--think about it like playing paintball--you can't just 'turn off' team damage.

Team Damage is on because they want you to think for half a second. Teams degenerates into completely unfair nonsense when you can't attack your teammate. Anyone who isn't terrible at the game understands that, NestofBees.

What are the "prizes" you speak of? People want to know whether or not this will be worth their while.

Also, why are standing infinites allowed only for an extra 50%? I don't understand why leeway should be given to the handful of characters who have a crippling weakness--If they want to pick a character with problems, they should be able to either overcome the weakness or suck it up when they screw up.

Even ignoring that fact, it seems really silly to make an arbitrary number for it (why 50%?). Either ban infinites altogether or allow them altogether.

You make it a point to stress that the final round is not a free for all, does that mean the rest of the tourney is????

Hey guys, I'm actually working with Misifuz there on this tournament.

Our matches are not all free for all. They will either be 1 v. 1 or 2 v. 2 depending on if you are playing in the singles or doubles side.

Our prizes will be a cash pize and possibly combined with some freebies from our school's bookstore. This event is conisdered a fundraiser for our campus club, so it won't be a simple pot split, whatever prize money distributed will ultimately be determined by how many people show up and how much money we initially get.

As for the standing infinites, we just set the limit to 50% as a happy medium. We've never had any competitors actually utilize that skill in our tournaments, then again, we've never really had any "professional" participants either, so, you know, it's just an option. If someone wants to do a standing infinite they can, but up to a point. We don't want to really limit someone and their skills.

Remember, if you are interested in participating, if you bring either a TV or a legit console and copy of the game that we can use (if we don't already have enough stations by the time you show up) you get in for free. If you want to make sure you get in for free, make sure you show up early enough.

As an aside, isn't limiting an infinite actually limiting the skill it takes to get it started in the first place, as well as limiting the skill it takes to avoid it in the first place? Regardless, I'm glad for what appears to be decent prizes and a lack of free-for-all.

I wonder who will be going. I'm going to Tuscaloosa, myself, so, I won't be here, and neither will Billy or Calvin.
