the easiest way to learn is to find someone IRL that you know to teach you; it's a lot easier that way. people online in pubs ***** way too ****ing much to make it worthwhile. You can also DL an AI map and play that, o just play some singleplayer first by yourself to get a feel of the layout, skillsets, itembuilds and so on

just play on LC hosts or via GGC; you get a much larger playerbase that way

yea kira got it right.. the learning curve for DOTA is deceivingly high. there are so many aspects to this game. it takes months just to learn the basics and after that theres alot of depth to higher level play

Well, depends on what you're after.

After 2-3 months of constant play, pub games really shouldn't be a problem (as in you should be on even footing with most players).

However, if you're looking to play competitively, that's a whole different story. And yes, most people don't realize how difficult strategizing is at higher levels of play (mostly picks/bans then team synergies). But I'd argue that the learning curve for DotA is pretty easy when compared to the curve for traditional RTS like ladder and SC.

Yeah. It really does depend on what level you want to play. For FUN it's a relatively easy game to pick up. Pick X and buy X. Go pwn. It can be a pain in the *** to learn on a higher level though. The game can shift on a dime and after playing for an hour(usually) this game can make you want to fling your laptop across the room. It's a fun game either way.

btw, for those noobs like Sick who don't know what dota is, its a custom game for warcraft 3, so you need that to play it.

yeah, communication is vital in dota

or else you'll have 4 random heroes coming up behind you and ****** you because no one else noticed people in their lane was missing
