OLD MATCHES:

(OLD)These matches were from G4S3 in Columbus, Ga
This was my first "serious" tournament, and by serious, I mean the first time I played in a tournament where the vast vast majority of players used advanced techniques.

X2X (Samus) vs Jx31 (Marth) 1-Pools

X2X (Samus) vs Jx31 (Marth) 2-Pools

Kirby_jim (Kirby) vs Jx31 (Marth) 2-Pools (The first round I was using Ganondorf.)

There is one more set, however, these are the only ones where I wasn't freaking out in. >.>
Critique away, tell me every last thing I'm doing wrong even if it seems VERY obvious!

I watched the first match

Started off well enough I guess..try to swipe down the missles over using your second jump to dodge them like you first did...and you let the pressure off very soon despite coming on strong. at .24 seconds, you jumped for no reason and it costed you..reframe from doing things like that. At .56 seconds, you could have swiped that missle down but instead you were hit.

When samus is coming back as she did and you're hanging on the edge, b-air her so her grapple won't reach. At 1.21, she was bombing very close to the stage and you could have easily hit her with an aerial but instead you watched. You seemed to be getting really sloppy around this time..like the dancing blade at 2.23 is a good example..thats probably the worst choice of moves you could have picked to attack her at that damage. At tippered u-air, a n-air, a bair...even a tippered f-air would have killed her..f-tilt and f-smash are gimmes but anything really would have done the job.

The up-b at 2.30..I guess you were going for a reverse up-b but at the skill gap, you shouldn't be trying things of that sort. The running into the missle wasn't too bright after you managed to take a stock..At 2.51, you grabbed him and f-throwed but didn't try to follow it up any what so ever. At 3.11..you grabbed and threw her forward..and you seen her jump yet you grabbed again..The airdodge at 3.15 should have been replaced with a swipe..it would have saved you from her after-attack....

you seemed to be having trouble against her crouch canceling game early in the match, shuffled d-airs elimate that part of her game. You asked to show you every little mistake lol..thats too hard as you make alot of them..but we all did at some points and even now.

No offense to you but the samus seems to be at a higher game level than you. You don't have good spacing and lack mindgames...but behold the light at the end of the tunnel But you are playing people better than you, which is a very great thing as when you play good people, you naturally get better. And playing people much better than you leads to regular improvement...just keep practicing!

I hope I wasn't too harsh, alot of people have gotten onto me about being cold..I'm trying lol..if you felt you did better in the other videos, I'll watch.

Too harsh? Not at all.

Thank you for the advice, I didn't think anyone would give such a detailed response, I appreciate it.

You made a couple of good points that I didn't catch such as the bair edgeguarding ( Lol,told you that I miss the obvious stuff). Sadly even if I thought about it during that match I wouldn't have attempted it. I didn't have too much trust in my own tech skill at the time, and would have been too worried about falling to my doom afterwords -_-.

Hopefully after the June 30th tournament (If I can get a ride) I will have some more videos for review.

Thanks again.

Experience is everything, be practicing regularly against anyone..perferably someone better but I can understand if no one around you is any good. Try to get good at things you don't feel safe with, such as the b-air edgeguarding from ledge that I mentioned.

you need to be more comfortable with your advanced techniques. use the wavedash far more liberally to the point where u like to wavedash more than you roll. and for the love of god learn to shuffle. you also need to shield grab and side step more. use a bigger variety of moves. i saw very very few tilts specifically the ever awsome up tilt. get more accustomed with the tipper distance with moves besides the upsmash as the f tilt i found if a nice killer near the edge.

Btw i like how all marths are drawn to the same avatar lmfao

dang diggy dang!!
I frkin LOVE X2X's Samus!!!!
She is smokin...

Btw Marth seems to edge guard Samus better when he is hanging off the edge, which leads to b-air or d-air.
Just from experience that is good.

Edit: LOL like 5 same avatars in a row!

learn to strategize not just combo and edge guard. a tactic that i learned the hard way is something marth players should really love to do, platform camp. stand just under a platform, near the front. then easily bait the opponent into attacking you, but their only real option is near the front because they cant attack towards the back. then just dodge with a dd or WD and punish.

I added more vids of me playing Dogysamich, now I have vids against his main! Please tell me what I'm doing right, wrong, what could use improvment, ANYTHING. I have some serious problems against his Falco,Doc, and Marth(Well somewhat). The vids with a * by it means that I got steamrolled(3-4 stocked) during that match.

You need to tech and di more . For example a grab then a dmash shouldn't hit you if you di and tech from it and less dash attack, which can easily be grabbed.

Spacing, Jeff, its all about the spacing. Try to dash-dance around to keep yourself spaced properly, start your approaches with grabs or aerials, and then techchase the **** out of him.
Once you get ahold of somebody in Melee, you NEVER let go till their stock is gone.
^_^

I'll watch more videos and add critique later!

spacing anda little hint this realy make my friend mad a lot the down + b smash move
when the apponent is too near to get a good hit with marth (the fact that marth hits harder with the tip of his sword) which since your friend uses dr.mario and seems to like moving quite quickly would work well + when you are fall tap L or R to roll and get up andaway instantly or guard in the air while moving to make some distance.

Yeah pratice is everything but if your to good for your opponets you play on a regular basis, then I suggest that you get Brawl for online.

I will play Brawl online whenever I get a Wii, however, Blue made that post almost a year ago when I didn't have any good players to play with on a regular basis. Now is a different case....kinda >.>.

I get to play Dogy(Top ten player) at least every other week, which isn't the same as playing with the CDE crew(Contains two top ten players) almost every day when I lived in Columbus but it's still great practice. I felt that I improved quite a bit from just playing Dogy every now and then, who is a absolute beast btw :(.

I only watched the first falco video, but I can try to give some general advice.

1. Be very concious of your spacing. You want to be as far away from the opponent as possible, but where tipper range still reaches them, they cannot touch you if you do this correctly, and sweetspotted fair will pop falco up with nice stun for a quick grab. When you're pressured, don't back off too much, because falco will laser approach you again. Short hopping slightly backwards while defending with fair is amazing for this.

2. Only roll as a last resort to relieve the pressure from Falco. You shouldn't underestimate counter, however. :D

3. I see that you tried to bring him to the edge in certain instances, which is correct because falco has one of the worst recoveries, but he started spamming lasers. You shouldn't be all too uncomfortable at the edge, though. If you stand at the edge shielding, you have a slight chance at grabbing falcos out of pillar after the shine hits. Backthrow from this puts falco in a very bad situation. You might try running off the stage into an immediate fair if he tries to jump and grab from below. If the first hit connects, he's forced to upb, and you can double jump fair to kill him off at low %.

4. Focus on what you want to do around 50-70%: Upthrow to tipper fsmash. There were cases were you dashattacked instead of doing this. If your'e under a platform, upthrow falco, and wait for his tech above you. You can still time the tippered fsmash.

5. Focus on getting grabs. At low %, fair is wonderful to move in close enough to get a grab. If you're upthrow chaining him, you can do a quick dthrow to fsmash behind you to surprise them at lower %s. Falcos sometimes don't tech this b/c they expect upthrow, and you can get really cheap edgeguard kills off of this. You can also techchase falco, and it's easier when you're sort of near to the edge because their options are more limited, and they tend to tech roll back towards the center of the map into another grab. After a few repetitions of this, you should be ready to time a fsmash when he techs in place from another backthrow. If you get too close to the edge, he'll often try to escape by DI'ing all the way off of the map, so be ready for that too.

I think that short hopped upair juggling has a lot of potential against falco. Upair changes the timing of your hits as well, so that slight delay is useful (you use it on the way down, right before reaching the ground). At low %, you can get a grab or anything you want off of it. It's useful for juggling into fsmash as well.

Also, try experimenting with neutral swipe versus falcos. They like to quickly double jump and forward-b back to the edge, but neutral swipe is all that you need to force him to up-b, and is easy to time. If you hit with the neutral swipe, run-off and reverse up-b him or do a non-sweetspotted fair. Forward-b will even work if he's directly underneadth the edge of the stage while charging upb. If you don't have enough time to run down and kill teh upb, counter is very nice to reset it so that you can force the kill.
