My Wii had a pretty serious overheating problem after my dog knocked it out of the entertainment center (got caught on my Gamecube controller cord while I was playing and pulled the whole thing out). Fan stopped working on the inside, so I run a small fan next to it while I play and keep it out in the open with good air circulation in general. Hasn't overheated in about a year.

Find a good USB loader, for PM I recommend Configurable USB Loader. Install that and download a Brawl ISO. Make sure your USB is formatted correctly/do whatever you need to add the ISO onto the USB.

Seriously, can I just download an iso from the internet, slap it in my USB drive in the same folder I have my data files for other games I installed, and play it? Do I need to format it or something?

If you have an old OLDDDD Wii, they were prone to overheating for different reasons. The most important things to check would be if the fan is blowing, if you have enough room for good circulation, and some minor stuff like Wiiconnect/Wii settings. My original Wii fell victim to this, and luckily Nintendo improved a lot of those problems with later Wii's.

Also, I do not recommend laying the Wii flat sideways, especially if it's going to be on carpet or a flooring that will tend to get hot. If you took it off the entertainment center and just have it on the floor, I'd stand it up or buy a stand for it.

General question here, do HD CRT TVs lag? Even if I used component cables? I was thinking of getting a Sony 34XBR960

About as close as it could be. I live a bit south of Albany. The highways are weird though so unlike NYC there's no really direct route to RI.

Since it's a CRT my gut guess would be that it wouldn't have lag.

It's looking like I might actually have a laptop now permanently, if it works out and I get it to Dual boot W7: expect Retro game streaming (Gotcha Force, Lost kingdoms 2, GTA San Andreas) + P:M play/tutorials

I did a lot of research to find a plasma TV that only lags 1-2 frames on component cables, and that's pretty much the best you can hope to find. Magus has a couple HD CRTs that are very good, but I've played on a few that were crap.

Is there any way to test for lag? I haven't been playing smash too long so I can't tell when it lags

It's mainly just feel. My personal tests for a TV are wiggling the hand around on the CSS, and dash dancing in game. If those things aren't spot on with your stick movements, then you have lag. But some people don't feel it as much as others. I'm pretty sensitive to it myself but some people are fine with slight lag or don't even notice it.

I actually started doing this to avoid being shine spiked by fox's hanging on the ledge. You can press down to cancel your hookshot when it latches to the ledge which lets you bait people off the ledge or dodge edgeguards. You can see this in almost all my videos and how to apply it as its incredibly useful for avoiding gimps. You can also just double jump onto the ledge after a grapple if you cancel it and still have your double jump. You can also double tether cancel lol and tether cancel into agt.

What's the best file system for a drive for USB loading? Like, NTFS versus FAT versus FAT32 etc. Probably going to use configurable USB loader if that makes a difference.

FAT32 since it's what you'll want to run both Wii and Gamecube ISOs.

If you're just using Wii games NTFS is fine.
