Project Neku Sakuraba! v0.2 Beta up, and a video, too!

Neku Sakuraba, of TWEWY fame, is ready to join the Brawl!



Here's a great video by BassJXXXG! The video is of v0.1, but that's negligible.

Changelist:

Up taunt facing right is no longer a loop.
Down tilt now moves 80% slower and can be held for 4 seconds, as opposed to 5.
Several knockback and damage nerfs. (I forgot the specifics, sorry! But I think you'll notice in game.)
Final smash in the air no longer lets you move around or fall. The laser at the end hits people who are not caught in the first hit.
Mashing Neutral-B in the air no longer lets you stall.
Down-B is only a minor zap that does 5% now, but does not make you helpless.
Neutral air is a minor stun.

This moveset is for Lucas and vBrawl, although using it in B+ and BB couldn't hurt.

Right now, his moveset looks like (white is normal, blue is SOS - over 120%, and red is TPT SOS - entering SOS using the down taunt):

Jab - Shockwave

Neku slashes three times, with the first two hits combo-ing you into the finisher. It knocks you far away, but isn't going to kill anytime soon.

Dash Attack - Velocity Attack

Neku charges forward at high speeds, ramming into his opponents. It gives him temporary super armor and launches opponents into the air.

Ftilt - Apport

Neku drops a small meteor a fair distance from where he is standing. This move requires correct spacing for the meteor to connect.

Utilt - Aqua Core

Neku creates a stationary ball of water above him, protecting him from anyone coming above him.

(This is the Black Planet version, hence the purple color.)

Dtilt - Pyrokinesis

Neku holds out his hand, making a path of flame on the ground that is controllable using the Control Stick. This attack is mainly used to camp and annoy. The maximum range of this move is about half of Battefield...? I'm bad at estimations. This move can be held out for 5 seconds.

Fsmash - Massive Hit

Neku creates a sword of light in his hand and jumps up and slashes. This smash has the most range and good speed, but less power and damage (hint hint: A good SOS smash). A balanced smash.

Usmash - Piercing Pillar

Neku creates three pillars of ice that rise from the ground. The smaller ones on the side knock you into the large one in the middle. This move deals good damage, but has poor range.

Dsmash - Jesus Beams
Neku makes two pillars of light on each side and they explode for good knockback with a lot of beginning lag. This move is the best killer out of the smashes but has poor speed.

Nair - Street Jam

Neku shouts (lacking SFX for this one!) and unleashes a burst of sound than stun the opponents near him. Good range, but nearly no knockback. When you do this move, you need to do another move before you can do this move again to wait for the pin to reboot. Using this move before then will result in a weak blow that does 2% and doesn't cause flinching.

Fair - Vortex Saber

Neku slashes any enemy in front of him with two hits in one slash, like in the game and lke Marth's nair. Good all-around move.

Bair - Doomed Defense

Neku slashes through the opponent with darkness, and this attack breaks shields like Marth's shieldbreaker, hence the "Doomed Defense". This move is obviously not a move in the game, so I made it up. It is similar to Lucas's normal bair, but breaks shields and has no point where it can spike. My interpretation is based on the pin's actual name, Black Rose (because it sounds cool).

Uair - Twister

Neku creates a small tornado above him, blowing opponents up like G&W's, but not straight up, so this move can be used to gimp people who are in helpless above him or recovering high.

Dair - Grave Marker

Neku flies downwards like TL's dair, slashing through opponents and spiking them at the beginning of the attack. Unlike TL's, however, you won't bounce if you hit with it.

Neutral B - Energy Rounds and Nexus Ray

Neku charges up a blast, like Samus', and can only be charged on the ground. You can roll or shield to end the charge and retain your current charge. A partial blast will be Lil' Terror Bazooka, which fires 3 Super Scope bullets which are stronger if you are on the ground. A fully charged blast will be Nexus Ray, an extremely powerful blast that takes 3-5 seconds to charge. It will blast opponents away, dealing incredible damage and knockback, but gets weaker the farther away you are from your opponent. When you have a full charge, Neku will have a burst of wind behind him. However, you can't tell when his charge is full after you've finished. Unlike Samus, you won't flash white or anything, so remember! An attempt to charge it in the air will result in firing the projectile, like Samus'.

Side B - Spear Strike

Neku lunges forward and stabs anyone in his way. This move can help your recovery but can only be used once in the air until you touch the ground.

Up B - Vulcan Uppercut

Neku ctrikes anyone in front of him upwards, striking them three times as he drags them upwards. This move is great OOS (at least the intention is). Most hits will not hit. Make sure the enemy doesn't get out and punish you!

Down B - Thundercloud and Lightning Arrester

On the ground, this move creates a thunder cloud that you can control using the Control Stick. The thundercloud can only move a little bit in front and behind, but has good vertical range. Letting go of the cloud while it is on top of an enemy will cause lightning to strike them. If in the air, Neku fires lightning downwards, dealing damage to anyone below him. This move can only be used once in the air and is a great way to deter juggling. Landing a tipper will deal more damage (but I'd like to see you try).

Final Smash - Four Stars Pin
Neku slashes them twice and stuns them, readying up a powerful blast that is usually a OHKO.

Down Taunt - Tin Pin Thrift

This move will skyrocket your damage to 120%. If you enter SOS this way, then you'll be even stronger this way than regular SOS. If you cop out and heal yourself out, you'll lose your bonus.

Up Taunt - He fixes his headphones...? Sort of.

Side Taunt - A Normal pin drop circles him.

His throws are the same as Ness', only nerfed a lot. A LOT. He also has Ness' grab range. His pummel is Thunderbolt, surging electricity into his foes' bodies.

Cosmic SOS - After Neku is above 120% damage, all of Neku's attacks become stronger and more powerful and some, like the smashes, will be faster. Also, certain pins will be switched out for the Black Planet equivalents.
Utilt becomes Black Mercury
Grounded Neutral B becomes Black Venus
Dtilt becomes Black Mars
Aerial Down B becomes Black Jupiter
Utaunt becomes Black Saturn
Usmash becomes Black Uranus
Along with aesthetic changes, some will have special changes, such as inflicting Defense Break (i.e. breaking shields) or HP Drain (i.e. flower on your head).

List of (known) Remaining Problems:

The ice doesn't always appear.
Nexus Ray doesn't always appear, which sucks when you're killed by an invisible beam.
You can't do the up-B the other way.
NUMEROUS SOUND PROBLEMS.

I think he is pretty broken at this point, so can you tell me how to make him more balanced? (He's also really quiet.)

Because of download problems and unzipping problems, I have decided to make you download each file seperately, unfortunately.

I fully support this and hope to see it completed.

Though my PSA knowledge is really quite limited so I can't be of much help. His final smash could be something along the lines of Joshua's jesus meteor(tho I don't think you can scale the size of the starstorm meteors).

I want to make the final smash somewhere along those lines, either Shiki's lv.3 fusion (probably a disaster, unless someone can tell me how to do this!) or Joshua's (a giant meteor crashes into the stage... I can probably do it but it seems kinda simple and plain and I don't think I can do that part that happens after the meteor crashes) or Beat's (I have no idea how to do this) or maybe even the Four Stars Pin (when you win the game! It would require landing a hit at first like Ike's or Link's and then two giant slashes would happen through them and then Neku would fire a super lazer that kills them... I like this one the most because it sounds cool yet not that hard).!

I'll hopefully get a beta .pac up maybe sometime this week, but I work kinda slow.

If I put up what I have now, a few moves are fully finished and several moves are mostly finished and a small few are not very finished, so putting what I have done now would be pretty half-baked and not really playing with Neku. Sorry.

@Kei_Takaro: What do you mean by "isn't the Lucas version"?

Err, I mean I've seen a Neku Texture before, I just hope your not using Lucas as base PSA character. I prefer more taller characters fit for Neku, but it I assume your editting Lucas/Olimar?

I started this project with the original base character being Marth or Ike, but there are too many Marth PSAs out there and a bit too many Ikes. Sorry if that disappoints you. (Also, they didn't really have any stances where they held out their hand and psychic-y blast could come out, like Lucas' down B.)

If the texture you're talking about is made by Neon Togepi, that's the one I'm using...

On a more PSA-related note, are there any specific changes I should make to the moveset?

Can anyone think of a not-extremely-complicated-and-time-consuming way to make a boot and reboot system? Or is it not necessary?

...How do I make Mr. Mew look like Mr. Mew?

If my Final Smash was to be the one outlined in my post prior to this one, what would the initial hit look like and how would he transition from a miss to a meteor?

Damage added, as well as some minor tweaks. Some new concerns:

Nexus Ray can't go on forever, you know. So what should the tip look like?

Same as above, but for Lightning Arrester.

How much total time throughout the whole battle should you be able to use Splish Splash Barrier?

When you go into SOS, should the timer for Splish Splash Barrier / Dark Saturn reset?

How much should Cure Drink cure?

Where's all the love for Neku?

...This post was started about a month ago, so I don't think it should be locked. Just saying (because I'm scared).

the only thing i fear is that it might be OP
every character has a useless move or two, but it doesnt seem like he has any, and seems kinda safe in whatever move you use... i could be very wrong so dont go changing it because of this, just my 2 cents my characters tend to be severley underpowered so my advice might not be that great xD

Not locking considering this was made before I was made a mod (its in bad taste to do so, and there are several reasons I can explain as to not locking them compared to others), but I really do recommend merging this thread into the PSA Character Submission thread...

Who cares if PSAs has been done on the character before, it really shouldn't matter as much as that the PSA is GOOD. For going good design for a gimmick (that being a lucas PSA) isn't going to help anything.

I don't think this truly belongs in my humble little thread... This looks like an incredible moveset so far, and a lot of the movesets in my topic are largely ignored.

Anyways, I updated the OP with more pictures because I'm closer to being done (obviously), and added finalized percentages.

Quick question (I don't know where else to ask this): Some people working on fully new characters, such as the Devil, were suffering from a problem where their texture would change in different stages with different surrounding textures. I believe Eldiran said to delete the Env texture.

Neku's Up Smash suffers from that problem, too. Sometimes it looks right, sometimes it looks like it's reflecting light like real ice or glass, and sometimes it's pink or something. How do I fix this, considering that there's no Env texture or anything like that? Just the regular texture and the regular model from ef_pokemon (but with a custom animation).

I didn't want to ask in the Fully New Character Archive because the ice is not a fully new character...

This is a common problem in my thread, so you could have asked there, but there is currently no fix for this. I'll tell you if someone does find a fix though.

The effects you've created look absolutely incredible, especially the Nexus ray- I can't wait to try them out in game.
Have you considered a partial size model hack for Neku? It could really help him look more original- it feels weird to have him Lucas sized.

How is it that I didn't see this before? I mean, I was pretty enveloped in the Geno PSA, then my computer broke, then my backup hard drive died, then my OTHER computer died, but TWEWY is still my favourite game for DS, and I should have seen it earlier. I just have a few questions:

What are your plans when it comes to Character cosmetics (if that's the right phrase)? Are you looking for Models/Animations? making them yourself? haven't crossed your mind yet? And finally, what version of brawl is this tailored to?
Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous amount of questions. I only wanted to ask the first and last, but I ended up needing more questions to explain the first one.

To make Lucario's final smash one of Lucas' GFX, I just opened eff_LucarioFinal or something like that and exported the texture and model and imported them into FitLucas.pac, and renamed the texture.

...I'm making some animations myself, but I'm pretty bad at it. I have no idea how to model or change vertices or anything like that. All I'm doing cosmetic-wise is using Neon Togepi's texture....

It's for vBrawl, unfortunately for you B+ users, but I don't think that will matter that much.

This is proof that I'm not dead and I'm still working.

I'm finished with every attack except for Grounded Down-B. It doesn't seem possible for me to do it, so I've decided to scrap it and make a new one, considering Aqua Barrier was neither simple nor effective.

So, shout out some ideas and I'll take one or you can vote on it or something! ...Have fun?

(P.S. The Nexus Ray effects do not show up when you fire it up or down, only forwards. Can anyone think of a reason for this? And the ice doesn't always show up.)

I haven't played TWEWY, but I'll browse the wiki you linked to and edit this post with any moves I think would be cool that I see. Do you plan on releasing a beta version before ironing out these minor bugs, or are you going to wait until it's bug-free?

vB could be that Earthquake D+B pin. Neku goes through a long animation as the ground starts rumbling. And then the Earthquake occurs and impales all enemies(or stuns them if you want to really stay consistent...)

It would probably need recharge time though.

I would definitely release a beta first, because there's no way that I would be able to get it bug-free without lots of feedback.

I'm not entirely sure how Sexy would play out in Brawl...

That Earthquake idea makes sense... it would hit everyone on the ground and need recharge. It could work.

Wow, I just realized that vB means down-B and not vanilla Brawl. I fail at life.

I like how this character is going! I've never played TWETY, but nonetheless I think that the character looks great! I too am working on a character, so I must ask; how did you get certain graphic effects, like Lucario's FS beam? Or rather, if I were to do the same with Zelda, would I have to take the model and texture and replace something she has? Or would I just add it to her and she'd be able to use it?
