Random in tourney?

I'm going to hold a tournament soon and someone asked if they can use random characters for all their choices. Now..I know they could do that, but wqhat about counterpicking. I'm trying to use the swf rules for my tournament but couldn't find anything about it. Should it be wrong to counterpick a random character?

Well, if I have no definite main, then I would have to try to own someone with random every time it's just one of the advantages of having no main

Isn't the whole point of a tournament to see who is the best player?
Surely you'd want to limit randomness by as much as possible?
Imagine if someone was a Snake MAINER (nothing personal against Snake) and they got Snake,
vs. player 2, a Metaknight mainer who got Wario? It'd be much harder for player 2 to win,
this putting player 1 at an unfair advantage.

random is, in my opinion, fun for little casual games but shouldn't really be encouraged in tourneys

Choosing random can be good or bad for your opponent- or yourself.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use random..If a person has fully mastered every character in the game, his skill should be rewarded by being able to choose random...



IMO random should be the same as any other character in terms of tourney rules.

I'm suprised that most of the replies are against random as being legal...

I don't see why Random couldn't be picked. It's their money that spent to get there, so if they want to use Random let them. Now if a Random mainer won a big tournament, I say Random should be put up on the Character Ranking topic.

Random is NOT a character unless it causes you to switch characters mid-game.
Even then I don't think it should be included in the character ranking topic,
because it'd be a retread of everyone else's.
