How is he?

I'm recovering from a hand injury, slowly picking up Roy b/c of his intuitive nature for me, and lack of uncomfortable hand movements like waveshining. My roommate/partner plays Mewtwo, and my char alternatives for dubs would be Diddy (who's kind of uncomfortable on hands), Bowser (who sucks ass in dubs) and Kirby.

My intuition is that Roy should be pretty good for Doubles due to his mobility and insane kill power, especially because he doesn't need to maintain a specific spacing in quite the same way as Marth.

Not sure, though. His garbage recovery doesn't seem to bode well in dubs' chaotic environment. Should I practice dubs with Kirby or smth instead?

In my experience I like Roy in doubles but I feel he lacks. My doubles partner plays either Mewtwo or Fox depending on the stage and we tear up shop. He racks up the damage and I come in with kill moves. I can hold my own against two if it came down to that for a bit but like you mentioned Roy gets doubled he's down. His recovery no matter how good your DI is just too terrible to hold out. I'd say try Roy. If you find yourself under-performing then try Kirby or maybe Wolf(plays similiar)

With my minimal experience in doubles with Roy (I mostly play Marth or Ivy) I'd say Roy is a fairly decent partner with a floaty character. You say your partner plays Mewtwo so that's good. I'd expect him to rack up most of the damage and you coming in with the kill moves kind of like a pseudo-Fox. I'd recommend you be the stock tank for your team which might sound hard because of Roy's terrible recovery, but good stage awareness and control will keep you from getting knocked too far off stage.

Space opponents out with Ftilt/Dtilt and just wait for the percent to wrack up a bit. Once someone is at 50-60, you can pretty much get a guaranteed Dtilt to Bair which usually leads to a kill with good edge guarding.
