♥ My post count is my age. Deal with it.
So after reading through yahoo. I saw this awesome invention:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090530/ts_alt_afp/usitresearchmilitarylaser_20090530082418

The invention is a super laser that burns as hot as a star (the celestial star lol)...
It's incredible on how powerful this laser is.

Some say its a break through to "safe" fusion power.

Science inventions hit the media with people going crazy and some times take things out of content.
Such as the Large-Hydron Collider. People went crazy thinking it would create a small black hole that would suck up the whole earth.

Science inventions proved revolutionary and impacts history greatly. SPUTNIK, Railroads, industrial revolutions, etc...

I'm quite fascinated when you look back at history that inventions play large role in history of man. They cause stir and change. Changing people and their life styles.

So I leave you speculations. What is science inventions that you find fascinating or crazy?

Here is one that looks like some NES or old plastic gun:
The Dazzler.

The type of weapon it is: (from wiki)
A dazzler is a type of a directed-energy weapon employing intense visible light, usually generated by a laser (laser dazzler). It is a non-lethal weapon intended to cause temporary blindness or disorientation. The first reported use of laser dazzlers in combat was by the British, during the Falklands War of 1982, when they were fitted to various Royal Navy warships in order to hinder low-level Argentinian air attacks.[1][2] Blinding weapons are banned by 1995 United Nations Protocol on Blinding Laser Weapons. Dazzlers are not intended to cause permanent blindness, therefore are thought to be able to skirt this regulation.
Narrowband optical filters tuned to the frequency of the laser used may provide a good defense against laser dazzlers. On the other hand, the dazzlers may employ lasers using more than one wavelength, or tunable lasers with wider range of output. Photochromic materials capable of becoming opaque under high light energy densities may provide protection as well. Non-linear optics techniques are being investigated as well; eg. vanadium-doped zinc telluride (ZnTe:V) can be used to construct electro-optic power limiters capable of selectively blocking the intense dazzler beam without affecting the weaker light from the observed scene.
Optionally they can operate in infrared when their targets are electronic sensors. Most of the contemporary systems are man-portable, and operate in either red (a semiconductor laser) or green (a DPSS laser) part of the spectrum.
Some searchlights are bright enough to cause permanent or temporary blindness and have been used to dazzle the crews of bombers during World War II. Handgun mounted lights may also be used to temporarily blind an opponent and are sometimes marketed for that purpose. In both cases the primary purpose is to illuminate the target and their use to disorient is secondary.
they used this weapon in the rescue mission for rescuing the guy that risked his like for his crew when pirates took over their ship

****! I was about to post this.

Basically, we just created the Death Star.

Scientists say that NIF also promises groundbreaking discoveries in planetary science and astrophysics by recreating conditions that exist in supernovas, black holes, and in the cores of giant planets.
That's a big claim to make, can't wait to read on the 'how.' What's actually important to us is being able to conduct nuclear fusion.

Awesome invention. :)

location, location.
I've always been interested in nano-technology.

My Chemistry teacher used to work on research for nano-technology for years before becoming a teacher. According to him, if scientists are able to creat a robotic arm small enough to rearrange molecules then it can lead to groundbreaking inventions where roads could repair themselves and such. When you take everything down to its smallest levels, you realize that it actually just gets more interesting from there.

^^ Quote of the year, right here.

Anyways, is there any reason that they decided to make this, or just 'cause? (Don't feel like reading the article right now.)
It was developed by their weapons department (go figure), but will be used [primarily] for fusion energy. We've basically created a machine that has the star power :colorful: for extreme fusion energy. It's like we're harnessing all of the sun's energy, but artificially. This could and probably will help the world a tremendous amount when it comes to alternative energy.

I still like to think that we basically just turned Earth into the Death Star though.

If this lives up to its claims, then we're doomed. :(

This is exactly the kind of thing that gives me nightmares.

come on sucker lick my battery
Do you have a source?

The only wireless electricity I can think of is lightning.
i made a thread about it once upon a time back. if you can find it, it had the link

EDIT: i found it but the hyper link is being screwy

Edit: ok now its working http://tech.msn.com/news/article.aspx?cp-documentid=17337626

ok now back to the laser, the question is, is it worth the energy. how much does it need to create that kind of heat. would it be equivalent exchange. but it seems like it might not be.

I due time, we will see Mobile suits flying around.

The biggest explanation I can think of for this sudden burst of advance technology is that we some how got our hands on Over Technology.

Dunno if it said it in those articles, but the one I read said it starts reactions that generate more energy than is used to start the whole process. So yeah, it could very well be the future of energy production and all that.
