Small thing worth a thread (or is it?)

Of course you know the situation in which you're standing right next to your opponent and both of you are shielding. It usually ends up in a guess game involving grab, spotdodge and aerial OoS.

Now, I just found out it's actually possible to hit grounded folks with FH Bite, it only requires you to be standing super close to your opponent. Like, really really close, much closer than a regular Bite would require you to.

Why is this important:

FH Bite in those kind of situations is really, really low-risk (low-reward too). It beats shield and, unlike a regular shielddrop bite, it doesn't get ***** by people rolling. If you cancel the Bite asap (which you would if it were to miss) you can still double jump away and be fairly safe.

This also works when you and your opponent's backs are facing, simply by turning the Bite around (why no **** Sherlock).

It's a tad hard to perform (at least, if you are garbage at tech skill like me). You have to buffer the Bite during your jump and if you want to reverse it it's not hard to end up using Bike or reverse upBing OoS. Bike isn't that bad (at least you're out of there), but upB on shield is not something you'd consider 'safe'.

This stuff is most likely one of the most situational things I've ever come up with, but I figured it was worth sharing. I've only really tested it on Snake and Falco (against whom getting into that kind of situation is really annoying) and it worked on both, I guess MK and other smaller characters don't get hit by it, but I didn't have that much time to spend testing.

I never thought of this. I can see it being most useful vs falco if it is practical. If my wii weren't broken I would try it. Anyone want to let me know how any testing goes?

Whoa :O this sounds pretty useful! I would normally do a ton of spotdodges in that situation haha, I like how you can double jump before you hit the ground. Definitely makes this a safer technique. An option I like doing is a retreating Nair oos, but it's liable to get grab armored I've found. Next time I play I'll give it a try :)

Because I posted what is apparently considered pornography, pretty much for the same reason I got banned the previous time. I do suppose actual contribution should be tolerated by mods, even though I'm actually banned (so long as it doesn't turn into spam
excluding the European boards, since everything there should be considered spam
).

Anyhow, why I was banned is of no importance, I believe this is a rather nice find.

Note: I actually already had L on special to make upB OoS more accessible, this turned out to be useful for this stuff as well, I find flicking my thumb from Y to B within 6 frames a really ****ing annoying thing to do. As I said earlier, my tech skill is complete garbage (I fail the CG on Falco as well. Talking about Falco, I can't even consistently SHDL so yeah, get@me), but I figure this may just be really annoying to do consistently, perhaps people with actual tech skill can make some input on its actual difficulty.

Another note: FH Bite does not beat spotdodge if they react properly, there's a common spotdodge habit when you are facing them and they're shielding with their back towards you. This is a rather logical habit since you actually have access to your super uber duper fast shieldgrab, while they don't. This habit is not really applicable if you're facing each other, so all in all: be more wary of spotdodges when you're actually in a positional advantage. <<<<<<<<<<<<<< all that is speculative theorycrafting, bottom line is:

Spotdodge beats FH Bite so long as your opponent reacts accordingly. You can decide to be a smart@ss by extending the Bite, I wouldn't know what a standard reaction would be from people if they actually spotdodge the thing, perhaps they'd commit to shielding (in which case you win anyway lololol.)

I'll take the opportunity to once more say how annoying it is to reverse the **** thing. Also note that if you don't buffer it correctly, you'll do a FH Bite but you just won't grab your opponent. You're technically making use of Bite's vertical range, which is, in fact, booty. Note the difference between being able to FH Bite someone, and normally Bite someone, in horizontal range. Final note: I already said this is very situational, mostly because of how close you have to be to your opponent, but I shall take this chance to note it's situationalness once more: it's very situational.

Lol how can I write such a wall of text on this.

You are bad at tech skill because you choose to be. Practice a little bit :p

Vanilla controls are the way to go, so you don't have to change your controls every time you make a new tag. If melee players can do more than one JC Shine in a row, I'll be ****ed if I can't Bite out of shield.

If they spot dodge can't you hold the bite to get them on the way do or does it take too long to catch them ?
