SMASH COMPARISON CHART - V2.0​

This thread is to show the comparison between characters in separate installments of the smash series. It compares the viability of all characters in every installment, combines them all, and shows which characters are overall more or less viable than the others in these games. Before Smash 4 came out, there was a thread comparing only the first 3 games here if you want to see the older version. With the addition of a 4th game and with more characters being cut (like Ice Climbers and Wolf) and some formerly cut readded (like Mewtwo and Roy), compiling with the previous method would no longer work well, so now it weights placements based on tier list placements in comparison to the size of the game's roster. You can see all the results in excel format here.
The new formula for the total character score is:
('Roster Size'-'Tier List Placement')/('Roster Size'-1)

With the changes to how points are calculated, the Melee/Brawl list has now been reworked into the 3+ Games list. The changelist has been kept from the former version in order to compare former placements, but changes aren't necessarily weighted correctly due to massive changes and characters who may have improved may be shown to go down and vice versa.

I like this thread. Even if simple number assignments don't paint as broad of a picture as I would like of the individual metas for the smash bros games. It's funny to think we never seen characters like Ness, Yoshi, Sonic, or the Mario Bros as common competitive threats before Smash 4. The re-emergence of Captain Falcon and Sheik, the fall of Falco, Dedede, and Marth. While it's true that the Smash 4 tier list is still in its infancy, these comparisons bring up some interesting questions. If Smash 4 and Melee Falcon have the same placement based on roster size, does that mean they are equally as viable in their respective metas? Or, with three veteran characters brought in to Smash 4 as DLC, and all of them at a higher rating, do you agree that DLC veterans are generally made to be better than their initial games? Finally, as the first mainline game to receive balance and patch updates, how have the buffs and nerfs re-shaped Smash 4's tier list to bring certain characters in or out of radically different positions? Have they at all?
