Smash Switch Most Wanted Veteran Bracket Challenge- GAME FINISHED. FINAL RESULTS POSTED.

Game 1: Mario. Little Mac removed an Assist Trophy.
Game 2: Mewtwo. Well a powerful Psychic Pokémon can easily beat a stiff robot.
Game 3: Pokémon Trainer. I really want to see a matchup with Charizard and this "Aura" thing doesn't even fit into the Pokémon series.
Game 4: Sonic. I prefer Samus in her Zero Suit.
Game 5: Ike. GREEEAAAT AETHEEEER!!!
Game 6: Pit. A winged guy vs a character from a series that is so overrepresented that he's considered his own series? I'd go with the angel.
Game 7: Fox. I can't believe the hottest woman in Smash lost to a monkey... Avenge her, Star Fox!
Game 8: Link. A dog meant to make people mad shouldn't have come here.
Game 9: Pikachu. The face of Pokémon is better than a puny god. SHAZAM!!!
Game 10: Charizard. This awesome dragon eats weak Links for breakfast.
Game 11: Meta Knight. He was top tier in Brawl.
Game 12: Ice Climbers. Sorry Dedede, but the Ice Climbers need to come back now that the 3DS is out of the way.
Game 13: Captain Falcon. FALCON PUNCH!!
Game 14: Zelda. A princess would not allow a man to act so dirty.
Game 15: Peach. She is cute.
Game 16: Kirby for both. I hate that Kirby has two opponents because of a tie. Better for him to beat both to resolve this issue.

CaptainAmerica & GoodGrief741 Yeah, I;'m surprised myself that most third party characters were eliminated. I at least anticipated that Cloud & Bayonetta would make it farther. Still though, Sonic is in, as are Megaman/Pac-Man. I guess this proves that despite how iconic third party characters are, people still prefer first party characters before anything else.

Nimbostratus No worries! Take your time with the bracket!

Sean Wheeler The problem with that is if Kirby loses, then that doesn't get rid of the problem of 2 opponents in that matchup.

@Folezicle There actually was a newcomer bracket, which was started by Nimbo. He did a first party bracket and then a third party bracket, both of which have been completed (and contain much of the characters you suggested). That being said, I'd maybe be up for a newcomer bracket after Smash Switch is released (depending on who gets in).

Hopefully we can get more people to participate soon. I shouldn't be surprised that this gets less attention than the newcomer brackets (which got ~3x as much votes as the veteran bracket), but it still would be nice to have more participants. Regardless, I do appreciate the participation we have thus far.

Game 1: Mario
Both are fun characters to play as, but I do prefer Mario. At least he has an actual recovery.

Game 2: Mewtwo
Gotta go with a Pokemon on this one!

Game 3: Lucario
Ugh, Lucario beat my main in Round 1, but I can respect that (plus I do play as Lucario in Project M).

Game 4: Samus
Not a big fan of either of their playstyles, but I do prefer Samus anyways (and Metroid as a whole).

Game 5: Ike
He's cooler in my opinion.

Game 6: Pit
The green dinosaur doesn't stand a chance against Pitty!

Game 7: Fox
Funnily enough, they both teamed up in Brawl's story mode and are now matched together.

Game 8: Link
Easy choice.

Game 9: Palutena
Really tough one. Narrowly giving it to Palutena.

Game 10: Toon Link
Going with my Brawl main once again.

THE RESULTS ARE IN! Most matches were relatively lopsided, but there were a couple of very close matches.

Spoiler: Round 2 Results

Game 1: Mario wins 12-5. Not really surprised here. Mario's little bro was more of a challenge.

Game 2: Mewtwo wins 14-3. Another one that wasn't surprising. I would have been shocked if one of the most powerful Pokemon lost to a piece of hardware.

Game 3: Lucario wins 10-6. Yet another that wasn't too surprising, but it was slightly closer than I expected.

Game 4: Samus wins 13-4. At first, this was looking like Sonic wasn't going to get any votes, but he did get some in the end. Wasn't nearly enough though.

Game 5: Bowser wins 5-12. Shouldn't be surprised that Mario's main enemy won.

Game 6: Yoshi wins 7-10. Relatively close match, but Yoshi came out on top.

Game 7: Fox wins 13-4. No surprises here.

Game 8: Link wins 3-14. Like Game 4, this was also looking like it would have been a complete victory, but Duck Hunt did get a few votes.

Game 9: Pikachu wins 14-4. Though I voted against Pikachu, this was no big surprise.

Game 10: Charizard wins 7-10. This was actually pretty close at first, but Charizard pulled ahead in the end.

Game 11: Donkey Kong wins 5-12. I guess the fist is mightier than the sword.

Game 12: Ice Climbers win 11-6. This was close at first, which had me worried. Fortunately, ICs pulled ahead.

Game 13: Captain Falcon wins 14-3. Similar to Samus & Link, it was looking like CF would win without Roy getting a single vote at first.

Game 14: Zelda wins 10-7. As if the princess of Hyrule would lose to some fat slob!

Game 15: Marth wins 8-9. Looks like the prince is mightier than the princess! One more vote for Peach would have made this a tie.

Game 16a: Kirby wins 8-9.
Game 16b: Kirby wins 6-11.

As a result of Kirby winning both games, Kirby will move on face Marth in the next round. Also, since Megaman outperformed Pac-Man, Mega Man is the official winner of Round 1. By the way, if Kirby had tied with Megaman (ugh), I probably would have given it to Kirby.

Kind of disappointing that there were less votes cast in this round than the last round, but at least we still retained most of our voters.

The Hero of Hyrule is much better than a space furry.

1. Mario
I have 3 characters in Smash that I LOATHE above all the rest. 2 of them (Sheik and Cloud) were eliminated in the first round, but Mewtwo is still here for some reason. Luckily he's up against Mario, so fingers crossed.

2. Samus
Easy pick. Samus is still one of my favorite video game characters.

3. Yoshi
I love you Bowser. I really do, but once you go up against my Yoshi you're gonna get messily devoured and I will watch with a large grin...

4. Link
Personally, I'd have preferred Toon Link, but oh well...

5. Charizard
Charizard is my favorite Pokemon. Go away Pikachu!!!

6. Donkey Kong
I get why people would pick Ice Climbers over DK, but let's be real here...

7. Zelda
Oooo, I'm sorry Captain Falcon, you're overhyped annoyance has come to an end. You and Zelda are almost opposites. CF is more popular than he deserves and Zelda has earned the right to be popular but hasn't gotten any.

8. Marth
I am shocked that I voted for Kirby in the last two rounds. He is (imo) the most overrated video game character of all time. He and his games do nothing for me, so even though Marth isn't anything special, he deserves a win more than Kirby does.

Also I'm keeping tabs on who consistently votes against Yoshi. You will be my mortal enemies on this site...

Yeah, Mario losing certainly was a big shock. It was tough though because Mewtwo did deserve it as well and Mewtwo has had a sour deal in Smash Bros. thus far (cut from 64, unlockable in Melee, cut from Brawl, DLC in Smash 3DS/Wii U).

To be fair, your brackets understandably had more voters. The veterans bracket is averaging around 15 voters, but the newcomer brackets got at least double that if I'm not mistaken.
