Sonic's Green Hill Zone (Design)

I've heard many people say they want a Green Hill Zone in Brawl since it's supposed to be one of Sonic's staple stages and has even evolved in different Sonic games (from Emerald Hill Zone to the similar stage in Sonic 3D Blast. It was also featured in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle as a secret stage).

This stage should remain 2D, as did Mushroom Kingdom, but it shouldn't be a cheap stage where you can easily KO yourself by walking off the stage. Think Dreamland. Also, the hills on each side are not solid, meaning you can easily fly through them (the opposite of the buildings in Fourside for example). Also the ceiling and the side walls aren't short. The stage gives you ample room to come back after a strong impact, but it's not as huge as Dreamland, nor is it as small as Flatzone.

G r e e n - H i l l - Z o n e

The stage has two hills on each side.
Two platforms that on the top middle of the stage.
One platform that remains beneath the two.
Right now, they don't move.

If they did move, they'd move up and down in different intervals.
Also, if they didn't move, the bottom one could crumble and reload after a while.

G r e e n - H i l l - Z o n e

This version has a longer and lower bottom platform and the top platforms don't move.

Discuss, etc. I added the characters in there too so people could see how they'd compare in terms of size.

a bit too small don't you think? it would be too similar to Mushroom Kingdom II as for the 2D thing, I wouldn't mind, but I'd rather see it in 3D

The sides and ceilings aren't going to be low like Yoshi's story for example. They'd be relatively large, like Battlefield.

The fact that the Green Hill Zone looks so much like the Mario Bros. 2 scheme is the only reason I don't want it as Sonic's level.

The layout you have is nice, but maybe a bit bigger, and like the others said, more Sonic stuff.

I think they should use Speed Highway..

I think the two wall/platforms on the outside don't fit too well. I don't know of many smash stages that if you smash attacked someone there would be a wall to bounce off of so convinetely next to the character on both sides.

Yeah, good point.

I'd imagine Green Hill Zone as more of a wide expanse with a couple moving platforms above the main stage, and maybe a monkey in a tree throwing coconuts occasionally.

I think that it should only have one pit area, as green will wasn't that notorious for those, along with a short loop you can stand on top of in the middle and can go through. I also think you should keep one of the raised platforms, but drop one and put somthing moore interesting in.
further more, stages now have some hazard in them, I think there should be spikes, as well as bad-niks the come in.
It also looks like it should be a little longer as Sonic will have a disadvantage on his own stage.

There should be more of a sonic element to it, ex spikes, bumpers, springs, and loops (somehow.)
Maybe it should be a relatively fast side scroller? And if you fall behind you die? Kinda like the Big blue with loops.

As much as I'd love to agree with you, being a staple in a particular series doesn't really entitle it to be made into a stage. Not to say it won't be, but no matter how long I sit and think about it, nothing I come up with (or anyone comes up with, for that matter) really appeals to me as to what would fit the description of a Brawl stage.

With the focus of many of the stages to be hostile to the players, I'd imagine that there will be plenty of hostile elements in any Sonic stage, so yes, spikes, bumpers, springs, loops (like BananaNut suggested) would probably be pretty prominent.

No, I don't like this design at all. I don't mean to offend, but this is nothing like how I visualize a Green Hill stage. It needs to capture the feeling of the original stage. First of all, it should be a stage that Sonic can really run around, big with inclining slopes and maybe even a loop-de-loop (although, I don't know how that would work). That's the most important thing, actually. There should be things like springs or spikes scattered around the stage, bridges, maybe even some enemies.

It is a great idea I'll give you that. With some touch up and tweaks it can be great. 3D and some more vintage stuff from sonic would perfect it

Yeah, like that. That is a lot better. It's close, but maybe it could be even crazier.

hmm. this wouldn't be bad at all, in fact I think it would make a great Green Hill Zone stage just maybe with a stage hazard of some sort maybe Dr. Robotnik?
thats what i said....but maybe not eggman...maybe a robot comes out...idk

Here my idea I have for the "Green Hill Zone" Stage

Sorry I didn't add any palm trees, if I did the image would be too cluttered.

First of all, you can walk underneath the raised platform on the right and drop down onto the Spikes, or more preferable, the swinging platform below. Because of the spike, you can't KO anyone from falling.

The loop is can only be run through if you have enough momentum, seeing as that is now a big part of the game. So characters like Sonic and Captain Falcon can just run through it, but other people might need to use other means, like Wario's motorcycle. Or it can just end up being a fancy wall or in the background.

The platforms around the loop meet in the air, but platform C goes up and down once before it meets with B.

Also, Dr. Robotnik sends his Badniks after you, such as the chameleon one that appears out of walls and hovers over the ground, or the Buzzbomber the flies from one side of the stage to the other, shooting once at the first person in range, than quickly flying off screen.

Finally the primary way of KOing people on this stage is via the sides, or if you catch someone on a platform.

Any comments? Ideas?

This is EXACTLY the kind of stage that needs to be in brawl. Pair that with the multitude of kickass sonic tunes and i'm in heaven! Casino Night Zone or the Death Egg could make for some interesting stages as well.

Something more like this?
pretty perfect... one thing I might mod on this that I think would make it better though:

make the 2 levels of this stage farther appart and put a couple floating platforms in

my first thought for a sonic stage was Green hill, but I'd also really want a stage from the space station of Sonic adventure 2.

I didnt take the time to read alll the posts. so pardon me if someone already said this

I think that Sonic's place should be sorta like Iceclimbers from brawl. but sideways. sorta like
all the boss battles in sonic games are. endless repeating flat (Ofcourse, this one would hafta have afew platforms) track to run and fight on. It would fit.

I don't care what the Sonic stage is like as long as it's from the original Genesis games and is big and doesn't move or have any random imbalanced hazards.

Yeah, that's cool, too. Unless I'm mistaken, though, I believe that floating platforms aren't a big part of green hill zone (I haven't played a sonic game for a long time). They're probably should be a bridge, since there were a lot of those in green hill zone. More slopes to run on, too. SOnic should just be able to go crazy in this level.

It would be hard the screen can't move to fast other wise it would turn into a race not a fight. I think it should be like SSBM Mute City where you only have to run at certain times maybe
