I'm curious, when will this game start and how will it work in Smash Bros?

I'm guessing he'll start it when he fills up all the spots. It works by him entering our names, and a generator will put our names in story scenarios where it will randomly choose what we do and how we are killed.

Your friend must be a masochist. Even in Gen 5, there was so much RNG involved in breeding that it might take you 30-50 hours or more just to get a near-perfect Pokemon. The only way to speed it up was to cheat or exploit the RNG with tool assist. That doesn't even take into account that the RNG was broken in a few of the past games. In Ruby and Sapphire, the RNG was so horrible that some Hidden Power types for certain legendaries were literally impossible. I think it was in BW2 that the RNG was so messed up that, each time you restarted your game, the RNG would reset to the exact same predetermined value each time.
Gen 6 not only made it possible to breed boxes of perfect Pokemon, but they gave us a functioning RNG as well. Gen 6 was the best gen in Pokemon in ages. I still like BW2 the best, but I dang sure wasn't even attempting to mess with IVs in BW2.

I'm an extremely casual Pokémon player, so I don't breed or any of that stuff, but good Lord, I've heard about how bad the RNG and stuff like that was, and now I'm sitting here thinking that your acquaintance just wants to watch the whole world go up in flames.
Nah. Its this thing where Speed will take all of our names, put them into a Hunger Games scenario generator of some sort, and we'll see who comes out on top. Still tons of fun, though

Random thought, everyone thinks Mewtwo should have "Mewtwo Strikes Back!" be his splash art, but did nobody remember "Mewtwo Returns!" was a thing? I don't care which of the 2 make it, but either works.

Yeah, but "Mewtwo Returns!" doesn't have the cool sound of "Mewtwo Strikes Back!", in my opinion. "Mewtwo Strikes Back!" also rolls of my tongue easier, but that's just me. Of course, that said, I wouldn't be against the post-trailer screen saying something like "[Date]: Mewtwo Returns". That'd be awesome!
