I didnt know.

Yes. Am from the Netherlands, and Golden Sun enjoyed a lot of popularity here. Around it's time of release, it was easily one of the most popular games that wasn't a major Nintendo franchise, and Sonic stuff. It had huge appeal due to its graphics, Zelda-like puzzle mechanics, the 4 elements and flashy Psynergy, Djinni being sort of similary designed as Pokemon, and it being a JRPG and people loving that because Pokemon wasn't released yet and lots of people where craving a JRPG experience. I borrowed the first game from my older male cousin, and he borrowed The Lost Age from me when I got it. It also got niche popularity when emulating was hype, and GBA games are still just about the most emulated games.. So there's that to consider as well. Far more people might've played the games thanks to emulation. In fact, my first Fire Emblem experience ALSO was due to emulating FE7 (sry Intelligent Systems) and eventually got me to buy FE Path of Radiance.

On the talk of its popularity in Europe, I lived in rural Spain and two of my neighbours had Golden Sun; it's what got me in the series.

Especially since if it’s a remake, which would be the best course of action for the series now, it would probably take even less time to develop.

It could also take a shorter amount of time for them to develop it as they can easily reuse assets from the world map and courts in the story mode of Mario Tennis Aces since it looks strikingly similar to Golden Sun which could help whether it be 4 or a remake. And if they do, I hope Nintendo or it's other subsidiaries like Monolith lends them a hand with it this time and not make them do the whole thing themselves like with Dark Dawn

I wanted to say, Shantae good work really well in Smash, even though I like the pirate gear more, I feel like her transformations is what her moveset should be based upon, or even better yet a mix of both!

Ragnarok or Judgment would be the most eye-catching special shots and nobody could deny it. Make Isaac wield a racket made out of Psynergy and you've got a memorable character that everyone will want to become a mainstay.

It's funny, because this was the sentiment before Simon and K Rool got revealed.

To me it seems like Isaac isn't really seen as one of the 'big dogs' on par with Ridley and K. Rool in some fans eyes and you'll see people doubt how popular Isaac is by citing how he didn't have a Mii costume or appearance at all in 4, even as a trophy. Sakurai has also talked about the former two, and even a character like Geno, but he's never talked about Isaac. He also has to deal with that stigma of anime swordsman compared to the likes of Simon and K. Rool, Simon of who people were hyped about and welcoming towards when the leak music slipped.

Someone mentioned this before but Isaac being in Smash, it's something you got to see to believe with your own eyes. There are people in this thread who doubt Isaac being playable even with the few hints we have, Geno is considered more of a shoo in than Isaac in the smash community, sometimes it feels like it's the other way around and Geno is the first party while Isaac is third party. But I say If Isaac can go from an assist trophy to Brawl, to no appearance in 4, to finally being playable in Ultimate, that'll feel like the ultimate fanservice to me as this character from this dead franchise people like to throw around was able to be brought back by the power of fans. I hope we can pull a K. Rool too. Isaac's been my most desired for a long time, and it's to a point I'm pretty sure I'll cry if I see his trailer, it'll feel so surreal.

To me K.Rool huge popularity was made by years of fans asking him for smash, the need for a DK vilain, his recurring visibility in fan rosters and Youtube discussions, maybe the DK TV show ?
As for Geno I think he is popular in the US, maybe in Japan ? Idk, but completely unknown in Europe since we didn't get the game initial release.

You know, I would have never thought in a million years that 4Chan would be an ally to Isaac. I would expect it to be worse than GameFAQ, but no, they are (for the most part) in support for him. It's just too surreal to me. What timeline are we in?!?

Man that f-zero guy might be even more in denial than we are if he thinks that f-zero has any claim to the term relevancy. Captain is one of my mains don't get me wrong but he hasn't had a successful game soooo long.

I would agree with you. But after hearing F-Zero sold about 1.5 Million copies, I'm starting to feel Nintendo is just a bit too cautious when it came to small franchises.

Now, I can't say the same for the GBA games, sadly. They sucked.

Ubisoft has learned how to compress their games after working on Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. So this technique is SUPER valuable.

Usually, they don't even attend the TGS in any official capacity, much less announce anything there. For the most part, when they do, it's to give updates about pre-existing games or hardware. I think they showed off the Wiimote at one when the Wii was coming out. I checked quick and found this:

Though it still sounds small potatoes considering. They'll probably have the Smash Ultimate demo for people to try along with some other games due to be released soon. Like Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. I would still expect to come away empty handed for the most part. Considering it is mid to late September though, maybe there's one new character to show so people can play it during TGS, who knows? There's no precedent for it for this event though.

I mean, i don't think they don't usually appear at TGS that often. However, they will appear at this years TGS, for business.

Also, Verge also defended Golden Sun recently from GameFAQS. So even though it doesn't prove much of anything, Verge is at least aware of isaac. ^^

Though King K. Rool came off as this big surprise that he didn't seem aware of (since we know he mentioned Simon and Ridley). So I'm expecting other surprise characters like that to slip by, like say Isaac lol. That seems like something Sakurai would want to keep underwraps until the shocking reveal since he hasn't appeared since Brawl.

I think its a GS reference and I don't think he would tweet a GS reference for no reason when he knows how closely fans will analyze and speculate. I've noticed Vergeben doesn't seem to have access to what unique characters will make their debut. The only two he seems sure of right now are both (presumably) echoes, Isabelle and Ken.

I wonder if they're just not as secretive about the echo fighters. (or maybe hoping they'll be a distraction from the unique newcomers)

I keep forgetting to bring this up, but when people saw Isaac as an AT in Brawl using Move, had anyone imagined the move being different? Firstly the distance that the hand moves was more creative liberty on Sakurai and his team's part rather than what happens in the game (which I'm fine with), but what I hadn't imagined when playing the games was the size of the hand itself. I always imagined it much smaller, since you could only move objects you yourself could push. I know the hand was quite big on screen, but I figured only because of screen limitations and understanding what was going on. And also since you get catch beads so early it just made sense to me that the hand was much smaller.

I’m pretty sure Gamefaqs is mostly made up of children since it’s such an accessible site. Younger fans probably don’t have access to a GBA and are more for recent characters getting into Smash.

To go into more why the tweet is the biggest hint we've got especially coming from Sakurai is remember the interwiew where he talked about his stance on tweeting?

He could have chosen a picture of Kirby, the tweet was about the website updating. I find it way too much of a coincidence that he chose this picture out of all the ones on the website and that it just happens to look similar to Golden Sun.

This comes from the same man who tweeted a picture of the Monado and Shulk ended up playable. It'd be odd to see Sakurai finally tweet something, for it to be a screenshot reminescent of Golden Sun and have his thought process be, 'Oh someone is definitely going to catch on to this having similarities with Golden Sun. I really hope fans don't think this means Isaac is in!'

He says he doesn't carelessly tweet and he notes that massive fanboys follow him. So why even open up that can of worms? I'd just be very surprised if this meant nothing.

Edit: Come to think of it, is this the one time Sakurai has acknowledged Golden Sun in some way? Cause that's very telling.

I mean, it’s more of a meme war, lol. It was the same way with Ashley and K Rool. Ashley fans are much younger and convinced themselves that K Rool was too irrelevant. I would also like to see Bandana Waddle Dee though, he’s definitely made a name for himself in the Kirby games. I’d rather see Marx, but he’s only recently become real popular thanks to Star Allies, so I can maybe see him showing up in a future Smash.

Something that bothered me about Isaacs assist trophy was how his psynergy hand was a weird yellow/green colour.

If Isaac gets in I really hope the hand psynergy actually looks like it does in the gba games. (and Dark Dawn) Like white gloves almost, sort of like mini master hands.

I just don't look at the hand psynergy Isaac creates in Brawl and think "Yes that looks iconic, that's what I remember from playing Golden Sun"

Eh... I wouldn't say those are much of hints. In fact those are massive stretches.

Skull Kid had a random instagram post with his figure, Reggie had Skull Kid on his desk, there's a Moon AT and Skull Kid is still missing. Those are the hints.

The background of Sakurai's room is a stretch. The moon at the beginning is a stretch (as is the sun at the end for Isaac).
