the c-stick

I've heard things about how Brawl reades the c-stick strange, could someone explain this to me in greater detail?

Strange how?

For me, sometimes instead of C-sticking an attack, the game moves me in that direction instead... Like if I jump and C-stick left simultaneously, I'll just short hop diagonally up and left instead of attacking.
