Also, because Pac-Man is ancient, if he were the only 3rd party to make it in he could even count as a retro video game character (simply because of his origins).

while yes Pac man is very old, you cant really consider him retro because unlike everyone else you could consider a retro character, he's not really representative of a specific time in gaming because he's transcended generations much like Mario or Sonic has.

i want Takamaru in. he's a sword fighter but its a style not yet represented in the series

Let's see, Takamaru is more of a traditional samurai with quick strikes and precision, Goroh is a reckless hack n' slash samurai in name only.

Takamaru is like Link and has multiple weapons and tools, Goroh relies on his brawn.

Not that hard to tell a difference. It's like saying Link and Marth are the same.

EDIT: Also, Takamaru is more likely than Goroh.

This is pretty poor logic. First off, you're assuming Goroh will be given priority in his inclusion over Takamaru. If Sakurai's quotes are anything to go by, he's already had his retro pick in mind for several months already, which if Takamaru, could mean that he was finalized much before Goroh.

Secondly, just because they both have katanas doesn't mean they would fight the same way. They might share one or two similar A moves or something at the most, but even playing or watching their appearances in games shows they use their weapons very differently: Takamaru wields his sword like an actual samurai (with some ninja stuff thrown in), and Goroh is a brute who waves his sword around and uses pure force more than swordplay. By this logic Dedede would fight the same way as the Ice Climbers, as they both have hammers.

This is as ridiculous as saying a Pokemon who's type is already represented in the game would have nothing different to offer.

That's like saying Ridley and Charizard will have a similar fighting style because they have claws, tails, wings, and long necks that ends in sharp teeth. Palutena and Zelda because they are both Light magic wielding slow moving heroines. Or King K. Rool and Bowser because they are both royal reptiles that use minions to carry out their sneaky deeds...oh and that they have claws and teeth.

Just because they both appear to be samurai (Goroh only in name and heritage) doesn't mean that will play exactly the same. Learn how to make a valid argument.

Every possible human to get into the same would play the same as Mario, Peach, Ness etc. Everybody with a cartoon-esque style will play like toon link.
