Koi No Yokan kinda sucked outside of a few tracks. I get the feeling that White Pony and Saturday Night Wrist were flukes.

Man, don't people ever get sick of that digitized Axe FX djent guitar tone? I think it sounds like *** and makes so many bands sound alike. Compressed as **** weak floppy guitar tone. It was cool for a couple weeks but get your own tones people. And for how much Axe FX costs you could get an awesome Orange Cab and Head combo that is boatloads more diverse and just plain better sounding bang for your buck

Shoulda told me you were playin.
I keep forgettin you're a FL boy too! Are you near Deland or Pt Richie?

I don't get the Deftones. everyone I know is nuts about them but it all just sounds like nu-metal to me.

I'm on board the White Pony wagon. It is good, at least enough for me to care and be sad that Koi No Yokan is boring

Gave it a listen or three earlier, and I like it (can't really compare how it is in comparision with their older works).
Started sampling some Touhou stuffs, Demetori and Thousand Leaves are super awesome <3 :D

Also: Do any of you guys have last fm accounts? Kinda curious what people around here listen to other than the limited stuff we post :D (http://www.last.fm/user/Xyzzizzle is mine)

So I was following youtube links and came upon a song from an album whose cover art was kind of grotesque:

sorry werekill if this is too much for the swf rules

Am I provoking the mods too much by suggesting you guys show me other album covers that have particularly struck you (be they grotesque or ****in awesome)?

I also particularly love this cover, and I don't even like black metal

2nd person today who talked about Baroness, the other person being a real life friend telling me to go check them out already... I'll probably have to do so sometime. I think I also like those ambient-djent Orion guys. Toooo much music... :D

Two of my favourite album covers: (might have to do with the albums being super awesome :x )

In terms of grotesque:

That Gods of Eden track was pretty interesting, I'll have to check out their other music to see what I think of them as a whole. I'm not sure how well I liked it, but it did catch my attention so that's a plus at least. I like some of the more melodic parts, but some of the more metalcore-ish aspects were kinda bad, but then they also had some neat tech stuff going on.

Not sure if I've mentioned any of these bands before but they deserve mentioning again if I did. Some of them are technically punk but d-beat and crust have enough metal appeal to go in the metal thread right guys?

"How do you guys feel about Lights?" Get Low asks as he barges into The Metal Discussion thread with his new Lights avatar.

I like Lights. i found some video of her doing Peace Sign acoustic and it blew all of her studio **** out of the water. i'd prefer her as one of those simple girl with a guitar musicians, all the overproduction neuters her songwriting.

thats kind of neither here nor there though, you don't see me coming in here to ask people about Rilo Kiley or Lil B

anyways to get on topic:

I'm ashamed to say but I haven't listened to the newest Alcest album. the title has me intrigued, is it a good counterpart to Escailles de Lune? that's one of my favorite albums ever

edit: also got some footage from my band's last show. pretty fun. the audio is actually kind of decent. its way too dark and shaky though but
http://youtu.be/_DUt0jDLNV8

i'm pretty happy with the sound as far as these kinds of videos go, and i'm glad at how the song sounds as that's the first time we ever played it and a lot of the ideas translate even with the camcorder recording

Heh Alcest... I'm totally in love with the first three tracks on Écailles de Lune, but their other tracks are somehow underwhelming to me :x (Kinda stopped paying attention to them after listening to Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde, the 'Le Secret' EP and some of the other projects Neige appeared in, so I haven't listened to the new album either).

Never heard of Lights, gave her a listen... While I'm not sure whether I like the music, it's definitely not metal (:

Regarding the LT band recording: Well, it has surpassed the studio quality of some black metal releases I've heard (and the video is just dark enough for the typical music video of that genre), but I still can't tell for sure whether I would enjoy listening to you guys. If I had to guess, I'd answer the question with a "yes", seems like fun ;)

(Also, I'm mostly looking forward to some of the Comiket 83 releases (Demetori / UI-70 / Iron Attack just to name a few) at the moment... Yay Touhou obsession :D)

I like Lights alot, the only thing metal related about her is her connection to the scene, being featured in songs by Bring Me The Horizon and Silverstein aswell as being married to Beau Bokan from Blessthefall. I agree with Luigi in the sense that her music gets overproduced, I wish she kept her songs more simple and raw.

I agree about the overproduction thing, but I still love her music because I find it very calming when I want to take a break from listening to metal.

And I know that she doesn't really have anything to do with metal, but I was just curious to see what other metalheads thought of her music.
