Over my dead body.

Even though I know what it means the sentence doesn't seem to make sense in my mind.

I don't get why people that research curing cancer get paid $100,000 a year and why a football player gets paid 5 million a year.

The world makes no sense.

Its 3 a clock in the morning so I can't remember its name, but the reason it doesn't make sense in most situations anymore is because its overused. Imagine if everyone had started using "Give me (blank) or give me death" as much as that phrase. It would lose its meaning.

that's because the NFL makes more money than hospitals.

and also because the NFL HAS to pay their atheletes a lot of money per year, athletes don't work a lot of years, I think the average is 4 years.

so they have to be paid a lot, unless they have good investments they have to get REAL jobs afterward, virus researchers can do that job until they die

Athletes provide their services to millions at a time, and there are no close substitutes. Like, if you would pay 0.01 to see Tiger Woods play one unit of golf, and everyone else is like you, then Tiger should get $3,000,000 for playing one unit of golf.

$100,000 to produce nothing is pretty good, IMO. (Referring to cancer research thus far)

I'm not sure I like professional sports existing, honestly. It's a complete waste of time and money in our society. We idolize people who often lead very morally absent lives (which I think is because of the fans they get) for the most part (not all of them), and ignore people who are starving all over the world. We have more than enough food in the world to feed everyone, but we simply choose not to. I do believe that farmers burn a lot of their fruits and vegetables, as well, to regulate market prices.

The problem is that our goals are all mixed up. The goal isn't to take care of everyone. The goal for most is to take care of ourselves and those we care about. If we stopped for a moment, reconsidered, and started caring about everyone, maybe something would finally be accomplished. But as it is we cheat, steal, and kill to get what we want. This is what I don't understand in the world: Love is for the most part, absent.

It's a tradeoff. Either you get a big, unevenly sliced pie or a tiny, equally sliced pie.

If you go to either extreme, you can't feed everyone. People will stop producing food altogether if there is no economic incentive to do so. Maybe not you personally, but enough to make it difficult to feed those who cannot feed themselves.

Personally, I think the US could deal with a bit more socialism (zomg I'm HitlerStalinJoker) but not too much. I think many European nations have it about right.

Pro sports are entertaining. To reduce the utility of a society is of the utmost evil, which is what would happen if you took away this entertainment. I don't know what you do for fun, but imagine if someone said that we spent too much capital manufacturing it and we needed to get rid of it for some arbitrary moral standard. That's my philosophy anyway.

Besides, the factors used to produce athletes are not the same as the ones to produce food. No more food would be created if we took away athletics. Remember that money is an artificial construct that changes hands constantly. If I buy a ticket to see a Curling match, the curler will then spend the money I gave him on some other good or service, which will pay for something else, ad infinitum...

I don't understand really the whole deal with appetizers. I understand it's just to hold someone over until their dinner arrives, but if you see the sizes of these things all it does is make you full, then makes you waste your dinner (which can also contribute to Proverb's insight there).

Personally, I believe those little breads they give you in certain restaurants are enough, although I have to say I do favor buffalo chicken from time to time ( but in that case I have them as my dinner).

Because the people who put those signs on the grass are ninjas. Seriously though, it's probably the government or someone.

I kind of agree with grandeza. I don't get why people just turn off their brains when they aren't specifically paid to think. Examples include construction work (I see trees planted directly in front of street signs) and airport security.

I don't see why some people possess absolutely no common sense or basic background knowledge whatsoever. Just like stuff everyone should know. Just doesn't make sense.

I dont get why I dont get a post when i post under the Michigan borads. That does kinda tick me off at times
Post count is turned off in certain rooms to discourage members from hyper-spamming them. User Blogs, Forum Games, and I guess the regional social boards as well have it turned off.

Simple, it's because they don't think it's important, they'd rather "focus" all there intelligence in one area, such as football, which usually isn't a good idea . . . .

Likewise, I can't figure out why:

-Ripped Jeans are even remotely popular
-Low-cut pants are dominating the market (REALLY, why the heck would anyone want their underpants visible?!?!?)
-Nearly every other driver enters a multi-lane road incorrectly.
-People at drive-thrus can't count (either that or they're trying to save money by not giving you everything you order)
-There are three classes of fish (i.e. mammal is a class, bird/dinousar is a class, etc.) but everyone lumps all fish together under the generic name "fish", even though most orders look VERY different from each other.
-People think that snakes are slimy (Just because it's shiny doesn't mean it's slimy)
-New-generation gamers think 2-D games are outdated
-Wikipedia and it's subsidiaries are considered 100% fact by so many people.

I agree, especially with airport security. It's amazing how literal those guys take everything.

Mammals =/= fish.

A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is typically ectothermic (or cold-blooded), covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins.

=/=

a diverse group of mammals that dwell partly or entirely in bodies of water.

All aquatic animals aren't fish...

You pulled that first paragraph off of wikipedia I see.

You might want to read it again, I used mammals as an example for what a class was for those that were unsure what I was referring to, that didn't mean I placed mammals under fish.

The three [living] classes I was referring to were:

-Agnatha (Jawless fishes: i.e. Lampreys)
-Chondrichthyes (Cartlidge-"boned" fish i.e. Sharks)
and
-Actinopterygii (Ray-finned Fish)

What I was saying was that most people can look at a Tuna or a Minnow or an Anchovie and say "It's a FISH!".
Even though they aren't related, society lumps them all under "fish" instead of viewing them seperately.

But if you see a rabbit do you say "hey look, it's a MAMMAL!"? Of course not.

What do I not get in life? Everything. But that list might be too long.

My main issue is politics. WHY does every politician in the world, EXCEPT Barack Obama, degenerate into a corrupt piece of nothing? Do you just get THAT many rights, money and freedom when elected to power? I never get that and it drives me crazy.

That's your own view, I say ALL politicians PERIOD are corrupt including Obama.

It's because those that "aren't" tend to be shunned by their parties, and there have been virtually no new succesful parties in at least a century. (Worldwide)

Of course politicians are supposed to be for the people, so there really shouldn't have to be that many requirements other than an incentive to do what's right.

I wonder why more people havent joined www.doctorsteel.com to further the cause of taking over the world!

I don't get dances/clubbing/that stuff. Basically, anything where there's strobing lights, loud music (usually pop), and clumps of people spazzing to the beat. Other than the obvious reason (an outlet for their repressed sexual urges), I don't see why they're popular. Do people enjoy flailing the arms wildly? Are they attempting to impersonate a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tubeman?

I can, off the top of my head, think of precisely 1729 better ways to spend my time.
Raver here,
answer - because it is fun.
Lots of people don't understand how we can lock ourselves away and play a fighting game with mario and sonic in it for hours. ;p

there's lots of musical art to be experienced, along with talented people who can perform poi acts. it's also a great place to meet new people and make new friends.

as for repressed sexual urges, add insecurity, and drug abuse to the list of reasons some people go to those functions :p

not me ofcourse haha

But I definately understand your view.
People find different things fun, thats part of what makes them fun.

I disagree, I feel that obama has done many things that are corrupt, and unfair. Look up preventive detention on google.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/21/us/politics/21obama.html

my opinion on why is that the government is corrupt, and only accepts those who are corrupt.
