Third times a charm :D.

Hello BBR. My name is Tin Man, and I'm applying again to prove myself worthy of being a member of the backroom. I'm a 19 year old smasher who resides in Ontario, Canada. I'm in university in my second year, and I major in Game development and entrepreneurship. I've been playing smash ever since the N64 version was released, but started tournaments on June 27th of 2009. I've been playing competitively ever since.

1. What is your overall tournament experience? Do you host/co-host them, or attend them regularly? What is the scope of your experience (local, regional, national)?

Overall my tournament experience is best described from a leadership role. I say this because I've been hosting or co-hosting more than half of the tournaments that I've attended.

I've co-hosted the following tournaments:

No Waahs 2: Balls Mandatory
The Monster Smash
Ontario Pwn Classic

I've hosted the following tournaments:

Brewin up some Brawl
Brewin up some Brawl 2: MLG prep
Brewin up some Brawl 3: The Finale
The Preservation
Pharaoh's Judgment

I will be hosting the following tournament tomorrow:

Spring Smash Showdown

I enjoy hosting tournaments. Ever since I entered the scene, I always wanted to attempt hosting my own tournament. As I have gotten better over time as a tournament host, I've been having more and more fun. Every tournament I go to finds a way to be better than the next. I enjoy being able to supply my scene with these tournaments as well. I do these for my own enjoyment and for the scene. I've been asked several times to help out with tournaments that I do not host. I'm honored as a result because people value my contribution and respect my work.

The other main portion of my tournament experience is that of a top player. As I got better at this game, I was able to experience tournaments from all sorts of different skill levels. I have a lot of fun as I go further and further in tournaments. Be it a win or a loss, tournaments are something I enjoy far too much. There is always something good out of every outcome, and I fully appreciate every aspect of them.

I attend tournaments regularly. I've attended several tournaments that my scene has held. the scope of my experience is regional. Local tournaments don't happen to often since venue's are hard to come by. We use the venue's available to us the best we possibly can by hosting regionals instead. They generate more hype, and its been proving to work in the recent months. I've made arrangements to start going to tournaments outside of my region. I plan to travel out of my province to the following tournament (which I happen to be featured in the title):

Battle of the Ice Empire 2: Tin Man on Ice

I also plan on attending Clash of the Titans 5. This will be my first national tournament. I can't wait to see what kind of experiences I will obtain from travelling to tournaments on a national and international scope.

2. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

The following is every tournament I have ever attended (in order of date):

Two Seven = Win ~ June 27th, 2009
Super Summer Brawl ~ July 18th, 2009
Havoc in the Hammer ~ August 15th, 2009
Pownz December Decimation ~ December 19th, 2009
No Waahs: The Return of the Troll ~ January 9th, 2010
Lets Brawl Toronto 2 ~ February 6th, 2010
No Waahs 2: Balls Mandatory ~ April 10th, 2010
Brewin up some Brawl ~ May 1st, 2010
Brewin up some Brawl 2: MLG Prep ~ May 22nd, 2010
Brewin up some Brawl 3:
The Finale ~ June 26th, 2010

The Monster Smash ~ November 6th, 2010
The Preservation ~ December 4th, 2010
Pharaoh's Judgment ~ January 22nd, 2011
Ontario Pwn Classic ~ February 20th, 2011

3. If you were to be accepted, in what area do you feel would be your best contributions to the BBR? For example, stage analysis, character analysis, gameplay, or tournament perspective.

I believe I would be the strongest at tournament perspective. As a host, I receive a lot of feedback on tournaments from various different players with several different perspectives. I get feed back from people who travel from outside the province such as Ally, Holy Nightmare, and Swordgard. I also value the opinions of the members of my regional scene no matter what their skill level may be. Through experience, I feel that I am able to come to some sound conclusions on how tournaments should be run, rule set discussions, what's necessary to make a successful event and to make people happy.

4. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like the BBR to look into the stage aspect of the game. After seeing the match up chart that was done, I feel that something similar to this is necessary for stages. Stages are a huge part of the game as they can affect characters metagames quite a bit. Developing a character-stage chart would be something I'm very interested in working on.

I'd also be quite interested at looking into the planking aspect of the game. Especially after what happened at Whobo 3. There are many arguments as to how the rule should be instituted. Nothing would please me more than to be able to discuss this with others who share the same passion, knowledge, and understanding of this game. I'd like to solve issues such as whether or not certain characters should be limited while others are not, or if the entire cast should be limited. I would like to be able to reach a logical conclusion on this issue.

5. How do you feel the current BBR can improve, and do you have any plans of helping in this aspect if accepted?

I believe that the BBR can improve their impression that they give to many players. There are some haters of the BBR, and that very fact saddens me. I believe that the members of the BBR need to remember they position in every post that they make. They are seen as representatives of the BBR, therefore any individual that makes an unsanitary post will have members of the community blaming the entire BBR. Some of the members need to stop trolling, while others need to provide more insightful answers to problems when they are asked for a solution.

I for one will be more than happy to help in this aspect. I will be able to implement professionalism and will not post in a manner that will harm the BBR. I realize the importance of being a member and I will show and prove that. It would also mean confronting members of the BBR that are posting in an unsanitary manner.

7. Not including this one, how many questions have been asked in here so far?

8 Questions have been asked in this current application so far. Some of the numbered questions have questions within them.

8. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

In the past, I've linked several posts about ROB, yet I have dropped the character since. I have an insightful post of me helping out one of the members of my scene after a smashfest:

I also have a post of me helping an Olimar main. Since I also main Olimar, and he requested advice, I did my best to thoroughly help him in one of his videos. The following link my post.

There is more that I would like to add to this application actually. The questions where not enough to cover the other topic I would like to discuss, which is my contribution to my community. This overlaps a little bit with the tournament experience question, but theres more to be said.

As time has passed I have grown and developed into a better player, and a stronger leader. I was always interested in being one of the leaders of my scene ever since I started playing in tournaments, and that dream of mine has become a reality. As I said before, I am a tournament host in my scene, but it doesn't stop there. I am also a panelist of my regions power rankings. I myself am ranked #2 and It has remained this way since November 2010. The following link is my regions PR.

I have also taken the initiative to start several projects of my own for my scene. One of my major services is the National youtube channel I started. This is a project which required me to contact players all across Canada, and have them work together with me in uploading tournament videos on one unified youtube channel. I am very interested in the unity of Canada. I have contacts all over the region, and I'm well respected by them. I've received much positive feedback on the youtube channel, and its been working out very well so far. The following is the link to the channel.

The other project I've been working on is generating hype for nationals in my regions. Only ally travels to nationals on a consistent basis, and I'm more than interested in making sure that my scene can represent themselves as well. I have created a Clash of the Titans Hype thread and I'm doing everything i can to support it, and encourage players to go. My signature represents CoT5, and I even have a Hype thread with plenty of information available for players who also wish to attend. At the same time, the next tournament i'm hosting has teamed up with Chibo Sempai for the CoT5 Combo Giveaway. I'm doing everything in my power to generate awareness and hype for this national, and it won't stop there. This is just the beginning. The following is the link to the CoT5 Canada Hype Thread.

Finally, I have plans to host a national tournament in my region. I would be the 1st national Canada has ever seen for Brawl. It will allow the community to be brought together with the other scenes in the country. I also plan for out of country attendance. I have some ideas on how I will be implementing this and I can't give away to many details right now.

In conclusion, I have developed into a strong leader over time and i would love to bring my skills to the BBR. This also benefits me because this is another avenue I can persue to do more for my community. I wan't to do everything possible to make it as prosperous as it can be.

I go to a lot of tournaments in Socal. I've never hosted a tournament, but a lot of my friends are tournament hosts. I mostly go to local tournaments.

2. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

These are the most recent. I usually only lose to ranked players.

3. If you were to be accepted, in what area do you feel would be your best contributions to the BBR? For example, stage analysis, character analysis, gameplay, or tournament perspective.

Character analysis and character MUs. I know a lot of information about the game and the characters (even information that most people would find useless)

4. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I think that there are a lot of problems with the current rule set that need to be fixed. One of the biggest problems with the BBR rule set is the lack of a ledge grab limit.

5. How do you feel the current BBR can improve, and do you have any plans of helping in this aspect if accepted?

I think you guys are doing just fine. I really love this idea http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=292389
Now all we need is a Standard Rule Set that we can all agree on

7. Not including this one, how many questions have been asked in here so far?

Seven
