Brent cross is far! I live all the way in stepney green.

I heard asda is the cheapest place to get a 3ds at £182. Not sure if I'll be functioning well enough to pick one up tomorrow.
Haha I live in Golders Green real close to the border of Brent.

So basically I can walk to Brent Cross in 10 minutes.

And blegh no Asdas near me and cba to cancel my preorder or anything.

My roommate was watching something called Deathrace, and apparently there's a scene where a girl gets impaled by a spinning spiked spear thing in the passenger seat.

I have this thing where I can't really handle women in pain. Their screams especially.

Omg ughhhhh day ruined. I feel like there's a rock in my throat and stomach.

I'd call you a ***** but your whole episode really is indicative of some underlying mental issue. Consult a therapist. Or a dominatrix.

Off topic, Death Race is a great movie. And I really don't have anything to be unhappy about right now. :D

the same could be said about Horror movies, but most people still had "screamed" or something like that in a specific scene at least ONCE in their life.
=======================

I am kinda "meh " because I can't find a job. Even though I got kinda lucky that I got $250 check from college last week :)

I also got to know that the girl I was talking to, is getting interested in another guy. It sucks but whatelse I can do? nothing right, so I just act "like nothing happened" to me.

Yeah, but most people don't get physically nauseous and have their whole day ruined from watching a horror movie. That'd be sweet though.

A Serbian Film.

It's been reported to give people nightmares after, also led to deep psychological scarring.

jolly old england. hohoho.
Well a good number of my close friends are asian, and the way they study is different because of the way their parents push them.

Generally we're meant to go through slowly choosing what we want at school and eventually specialising at uni. Thing is, a lot of asians are forced into certain subjects by their parents, and even if they aren't, they're forced to study. The way they study isn't necessarily indicative of their ability to process and use free thinking to either express views or solve problems, it's pretty much 100% pandering to the mark schemes and hoop jumping of our education system. That's great for GCSE and A Level, but not for university where you're required to finally have half a brain cell,

Because of this, a lot of them struggle because their traditional study methods just don't work, and a lot of them were never really intellectually capable or suited for the particular course they chose, it's just that the education system screwed them over.

It's kinda sad too cos it just goes to show how lame our education system is, but I guess it could be worse.

Obviously releasing years of pent up frustration at the school system. X3
I've joked asians are dumber than the white students since first year. I'm allowed to say this because I'm asian :p It's probably true asians prefer rote learning and spoonfeeding, which is pretty much the opposite of what my course offers. Kinda sucks lol. I don't even know the syllabus of half my exams. I just roll the dice and hope what I revise is relevant. I've always preferred self-directed learning but asians probably do find it harder to adjust their study techniques at university.

Pretty much all the white students in my year are upper class. Most asians are middle class or from lower socioeconomic groups. People don't like to admit it, but higher socioeconomic groups simply perform better in education systems regardless of race.

There's a minority that were forced into medicine by their parents. Some of them turn out to like the course and get on with it. But if they hate it, it's kind of hard to keep motivated for a five year course of neverending exams and learning. I more or less burned out on exams and stopped caring about marks in my first year; if I didn't genuinely enjoy medicine I have no idea how I'd summon the motivation to keep going.

A lot of asians have family commitments. Many commute from home and have to help their parents with various things. It takes a lot of time. A lot of asians do not drink, take part in social events or ever join sports clubs at university. It sounds contradictory, but I think the students who become isolated and have a poor social life tend to struggle the most - you need friends to help you study and to keep yourself happy/motivated.

I Personally think our practical exams are a little biased against ethnic minorities. Too complicated to explain here and maybe a little controversial lol.

The biggest factor, though, is Asians are lazy. So, so lazy. I've no idea where the stereotype asian students work hard came from. For whatever reason, they simply put in less work than other students. Look at me - I was writing an essay I had 2 months notice for in a single all-nighter. I finished and submitted it 25 minutes before the deadline :awesome:.

I agree our education system sucks. But then I look at other education systems and think, ''well at least it's not that bad''. I never felt A levels were particularly less difficult than university though. In fact, I still think my chemistry A level was harder >: (

Eh. That movie is so over the top I find it hard to be seriously disturbed. I seriously doubt it has led to "deep psychological scarring" unless a little kid happened to see it.

I mean the climax involves
the main character stabbing a one-eyed character in the eyehole to death with his penis

that is hilarious if you ask me.

Wherever you want me to be... If you're female.
Asian here as well... and I think there are a host of problems from what you've said. Also, I think most Asians are hardworking, though there are a select minority like me that are very... very lazy.

Problem #1: A lot of Asian families have commitments to sending money back to poorer families around the world... myself included. It really hampers on the amount of money you really have for yourself and can get pretty stressful.

Problem #2: Asian culture is not a happy one... from my youth I've always been told I'm not good enough or I'm useless... total denial of oneself. A 96 on a test is not perfect and even straight 100's are not... if its stained by a low 90 mark.

Problem #3: Constant competition with others... I was always told I needed to be #1 no matter WHAT. That means highest rank academically, trophies from sporting events, and loads of service in order to make yourself look like you're better than someone else. Asian parents tend to view the success of their children as a measurement of their own success as well.

Problem #4: Racism... Hear me out on this one... there hasn't been ONE place in the world where I wasn't pointed out for looking different from others... Including in Asia. While in Singapore people look down on me for being Filipino(consider the stereotypes for Mexicans in America to be an equivalent)... In America there are hecklers about the fact that I'm Asian... and In the PHILIPPINES I'm stared at for being mixed and a "rich" American. This in turn breeds:

Problem #5: More Racism. People in my family react to all of this by developing an extreme hate for other races... labeling them as lazy good for nothings who have no understanding of who we are. Though they are correct on some aspects... being rude to the few that DO understand will cause a circle of hate :D

As for education... I think America is doing it wrong wrong wrong. We're still educating our children in the same archaic fashion that our parents and grandparents were educated in. There has to be some sort of change... information is no longer confined to schools and libraries and the real world demands group cooperation and ingenuity. I'm just sad that I'll end up finishing my education before I see this change. :S

It's just the depravity and gore aspects. Otherwise, yes.

And there are several more scenes a lot worse. I personally want to watch it myself.

If you guys wanna talk about a janky-*** movie.

Enter the Void. It's pretty severe. I'm not gonna say it's as bad as A Serbian Film or AUM or something, but I enjoyed it immensely.

A terrible movie is Jason 3000... I watched it when I was 11 and was so confused by how terrible it was. He morphed with some wierd metal alloy? The main girl was frozen with him how? Mrs. weaver (I can't spell her first name :p) is some crazy gun-toting cyborg lady... for the 20th time in history. It still hurts my pride that my 13 year old uncle made me watch it, the stupid jerk :p.

I hate Gaspar Noe movies. Just seems like childish high school nihilism in lieu of interesting stories or characters I care about. He's definitely one of the most overrated French filmmakers.
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, or even a novice in French film, if you could point me towards someone not overrated and awful, that'd be great.

I'm relatively confident the only reason I enjoyed Enter the Void is because I was hallucinating the entire time, but hey. Perception, reality, etc.

I was a bit harsh on Noe. He is talented at producing an effect in his audience, I just really dislike his general philosophy.

My favorite French filmmaker is Jean-luc Godard. Some may argue that he is far more overrated than Noe but he has done a lot more for modern cinema than many other filmmakers.

If you don't mind black and white, check out some of his movies especially Breathless and My Life To Live

Francois Truffaut is really good too. The 400 Blows is a really really really great movie. Again, it's black and white.

as far as more modern filmmakers go, I like Michel Gondry. You might have seen his Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His other feature films aren't that amazing but he has a ton of really awesome music videos as well.

Hmmm, the unhappy thread is talking about movies :p. I liked The Dark Crystal, that was good, yet no one I have asked knows the movie. I still watch The Neverending Story, great movie. But because I should I'm gonna bring up movies that make me unhappy. Back to the Future 2 was one huge plot hole. Seriously, the pair went to the year 2015 were we had flying cars and got old version Dr. Brown to go back in time, giving his young self a book, stopping him from building the time-travelling car. Now then, seems simple enough.

Time for a rant about how bad that is. Would he not be able to go to the future that never existed because there is no more time travel car? Stopping the pair from going to the future, thus the series never happening. Yet old Dr. still manages to go to the no longer existant future. Now Marty and Dr. go back in time with the never invented car, to the new time period were the car never existed and the Dr. is in jail... did I mention it was a plot hole :p.

I thought it was the bad guy that went back in time to give himself a book with every winning horse from the past 50 years.

...I havent watched it in forever, but that's possible, something stops the time travelling car from being made (I don't remember it being that... might be though). So the movie killed itself with that, because time brached off into another stream thus causing everything to be wrong (imagine the oppresive dictatorial leaderships they caused in alternate realities when they messed with time though.)

I feel depressed. I have always had a fear of death. It completly disapeared for about 3 years but has recently reamerged. I find myself afraid for the mortality of my older family members. I also cant figure out what Im supposed to do knowing that it will no doubt end in my death.... I just want something to help me feel better about this. Any ideas?

I take comfort in the finality and universality of death. Every thing that goes through the horror of birth will experience the glory and release of a natural death. You shouldn't be afraid. There is no "should" and there is no "shouldn't". There's only the strange, intangible and undefinable experience of living, and you can decide for yourself what it means and what you are here for. And no matter what you do or fail to do, it won't be wrong once you are gone.

This little tidbit might help you, it might not. I found it to be pretty encouraging when I was going through something similar to what you're describing.

I've always found it's important to remember that when evaluating questions of individual universal doubt, it's important to remember that there is no subjective way to view the universe. Short of math and physical sciences, everything you see, taste, touch, hear, or otherwise experience is first filtered through your brain, meaning you always and only process the world from a first-person point of view.

A pretty basic concept, but when you extrapolate backwards from that little fact to the point where you realize that the only bearing or relevance the universe has in your life is because you're involved, you're invested, you're already here, the idea of "Perception is reality" becomes crystal clear. If you weren't here to see this all unfold, it might as well not exist. Get what I'm saying?

Sounds kind of nihilistic and self-centered (lol oxy-moron), but it's a philosophy that's freeing in it's apathy. That's how I interpret it, anyway.

I finally started my poetry analysis of "Rime of the Ancient Marine." I pasted it in Microsoft Word and it was 18 pages long.
The analysis is due to tomorrow.

I also forgot my other homework for History and English.
