This Weekend in Pokkén: KiT and Smash Conference

The weekend of January 7th is looking to be an entertaining one in the realm of Pokken Tournament. Kumite in Tennessee(KiT) and Smash Conference, both long-running event series held in Tennessee and Florida respectively, will be bringing in some of the game’s best North American and a viewing spectacle for any Pokkén fan out there.

The Contenders

The players heading towards either event will be certain to generate excitement no matter which you decide to devote your attention to.

Attending KiT will be talent such as HitBox Arena’s Anthony “RoksoTheSavage” Paratore making the journey from New York, Martinez “Rasenryu” Harris & Thomas “Thulius” McLaurin en route from Ohio, Square One’s Labib “slippingbug” Haq from Texas, and quite a few Georgian players including Roderick “Scatz” McArthur who will be making his first out of state tournament presence since CEO 2016.

Smash Conference will see quite nearly all of Florida’s great talent such as recognizable Christian “Suicune Master” Patierno, Wesley “Bim?” Murray and Willie “Swillo” Barr. Excitingly, individuals such as Gena “Kukkii” Murrell and Vante “NG Obscure” Flint have recently moved to Florida and will be counted among the entrants at this fine event.

Finally, as an extra bit of interest, a rivalry between Bim? and Louis “Goon” Sisson has been brewing and will culminate in the stakes of a two hundred dollar money match. Through much vitriol, the stakes are set and, while Bim?’s perspective appears as a cash grab and absolution, Goon is set on obtaining a certain kind of respect from his peer and deciding that money on the line is a mere catalyst for this situation to happen.

The Stakes

Each event has different additional prizes on top of the regular monetary payout.

Smash Conference has elected to include $250 as a standard cash purse added to the pot, with payouts reaching into fourth place, allowing even runners-up to make back their entry through effort.

KiT offers material prizes the player will be able to display in addition to a monetary payout.
First, second and third placings will be rewarded with a corresponding medal. First place will also receive a special piece of art made specifically for this winner courtesy of Quentin Ross awarded after the tournament has concluded. A second, still unique, piece of art by the same artist will be awarded to a random winner that made it to Top 8.

Where to Watch

You can catch all of this action and the action of the other games these excellent tournaments in person through the virtue of both events offering emergency registration at the door. KiT’s Pokkén stream will be handled by one of the fine streams appearing on the details page. Likewise, Smash Conference will use one of their two streams, available on their details page.
