Trouble with First Steps into Competitive Melee

I am familiar with the competitive scene for Super Smash Bros. Melee and want a piece of the action. Sadly, I do not have any friends who play this game and the CPU AI is not very helpful to practice against, especially the 20XX bots. I can tell that practicing alone is making me develop bad habits that will ultimately worsen my performance and I am not having an easy time noticing my habits and fixing them. I want to find a tournament so I can start playing against others and start learning the matchup and such. However, I do not know any active social groups and tournaments that I can actually attend. What I mean by that is I do not have immediate transportation like a car or people willing to take me to the event. I am aware that there are Facebook groups or something along those lines who are hosting tournaments, but many are not updated or are inactive. So my question would be: What should I do to find a tournament within in my region and what is the best way for me to get there?

Any suggestion would be very helpful and I may attempt them. If you have any questions about me that would be of any use to you, then ask away! I also made note to thoroughly read the guidelines/rules of this website which I should have done right off the bat, so if I break any rules on accident please let me know immediately! Thank you.

And just an extra note, this is my first post on this website and if there is anything I should change to fit the guidelines of this website's rules and such, please tell me. Thank you.
Sorry I don't have any advice on tourney searching, but remember that double posting (posting twice in a row) is against the rules. You can edit your previous post to include new information, though.

These Facebook groups are your best bet if looking for tournaments and local players. Ask around here and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
Thank you so much for this information! I will start searching through them immediately.

Edit: I actually had a friend at Ohio State University email me this poster for a tournament, and I will be attending it on the 22nd! Thank you for the help, much appreciated.
