Super Smash Bros. Melee has long been a fundamental part of the local Smash Community. Around the time of Brawl's release, Melee had been sidelined in favour of expanding the new Brawl scene. However, new opportunities have provided us with a chance to give Melee a new lease of life. As such, this thread is reborn once again, with Melee being restored into the proper Couch Warriors lineup for the 2009 season. Prepare to be re-enthralled.

New to the scene?
If you're new to the tournament scene here is a couple of frequent Q&A's:
"Is this for pros only?" - The tournaments are open for everybody. The skill range is diverse, so don't be discouraged from attending. Not everyone that comes to the tournaments are competitive. Most are friendly and welcoming of new people. A lot of us are also a fair lot more outgoing than your average gamer. We are a community-based legion of Smash Brothers. Meet the tournament organisers! http://www.couchwarriors.org/real/index.php?selection=contrib More about myself (CAOTIC): www.smashwiki.com/wiki/CAOTIC
"What is the average age of a Smasher?" - Smashers are your typical gamer age. Those that come to the tournaments are between 14 and 26 years old. Bring a friend. Or two.
"Who can I call if I need help?" - Me, on 0466352145. My name's David. I'm the ******.

This post is split into the following sections:
1. Upcoming Tournaments
2. Ranbat Rankings
3. Other Events
4. Mailing List
5. Tournament Results (Majors)

We have some time after the dinner break to do another event - would people like to do low tier, crews, or finish early and play SFIV/DDR?! Remember this is on Saturday, so more people are able to stay out later like the LaTrobe days.

I'd rather play L4D on PC.

I agree about Rock Band. Why can't we have Rock Band 2 yet?! I don't want to dirty myself by touching Guitar Hero.
Rock Band 2 is basically same as Rock Band 1. You're just buying a new track list and slightly quieter wireless drums.

There is some possibility for DDR if there is demand for it. Keep in mind Rock Band and DDR would be competing with each other for noise.

Feri is also pro DDR, so that might be fun to watch.

I didn't realise this was so soon.

Please show your support everybody and bring the necessary equipment! The regular stuff I always ask for - TV's Consoles and Melee discs.

Needless to say it didn't end all too well.

Scenes from yesterday:

The turnout was the lowest we've ever had (about 16 people). I'm not worried about Melee's future in the mean time as people haven't made it for various reasons, but if numbers continue to stay low in the future, I might have to question wether I continue supporting a local monthly scene for it. So people should support it if they want to! Otherwise there might be nothing until Rocky.

On the positive side, SF4 exploded lol. 56 entrants, and a dayumn good Blanka won (no, not Sam).

Welcome to all the Melee newcomers! We always pick up a couple every month. :) Toshiba for most improved. Your Melee skill is better than your Brawl skill :)

it would've been awesome if Em, Shaz and matt was there. Miss u guys hehe

Anyway it'll be a huge shame IF melee was canceled or if some competitive hype dies.
I've been honestly trying my hardest to improve by learning melee so I depend on these monthlies so you guys can help be get better. I can take being 4 stocked or 'LOL'd' at.

I'll put it up soon. :)

May 2 date is sorta like the April tourney, except it's been pushed 1 week ahead to jump the public holidays.

I feel like an items tourney...
