Finally, a pacman that utilizes our SHAD approach.

Why can't Abadango do that? >:V

On that note...
I think it's abadango's playstyle that's holding him back from winning more. It clearly isn't pacman's fault that he got 9th at umebra when he mains 2 other top tiers for matchups that he "thinks" are unfavorable. His reserved playstyle is holding his pacman back. It's good for certain matchups (Mario, Pikachu, Luigi), but you have to change it up against the other top tiers.

Wario suits him more imo...

Abadango does not main any other top tier characters, he seconds typical of most top players his secondaries are not as strong as his mian.

Pacman is at least in part what is holding him back, if you're arguing he wouldn't do any better switching to another character then that might be true. Switching mains is not something everyone is able to do, just look at Mew2king and Nietono as good examples of that.

He said on stream that wario was his co main though. And yes, that is what I'm arguing. A big part of what's holding him back is that he's spreading himself thin. Did you know that he's even considering picking up meta knight now.

Although I still believe that he plays too reserved for a Pac-Man main.

You sound really silly saying that the most successful Pacman player in the world is playing the character wrong.

And that's fine by me.
I could care less how successful he is right now. What works today may turn out to be unsuccessful tommorow. He performs well because he's a great player, and because pacman's diversity allows for that kind of play. I don't believe however, that he plays pacman in the best way possible. We have only 2 top/high level pacman representatives anyway. Being the most successful pacman player out of such a shallow player pool isn't surprising for a player of his caliber.

I see a different light at the end of Pac's journey. Overly reserved gameplay is not what I believe will put us on top.

But hey, I'm just a crazy random on a video game forum :p

In additon to being the most successful Pacman player in the world he is also one of a handful of players to make top 8 at the two largest smash4 tournaments to date.

It's not like he is the best by default

Many of which have had little super defensive Pac-man experience (or pacman experience in general) such as angel Cortez. We already saw what happened when people get used to abadango's style of pacman. Just look at Japan where he currently rarely breaks top 8 anymore.

But I'm going to end this here. Our arguments get rather nasty really quick.

Edit: I am NOT discrediting his achievements. He is still an amazing player and deserved his spot. Especially with his amazing performances against MVD and ESAM

Saw your 4 friendly games. I have some general tips:

Try launching your hydrant for different angles. In all 4 games you were mostly using bair > f-tilt to launch it; that's good, but there are other launch trajectories with which you can pressure or gain space (bair > jab & bair > u-tilt make it bounce in front of you, for example). Don't throw melons at someone without a set up of some kind; they can shield it and take it from you to use for themselves. Use more bells and keys. Bell's pretty good to edgeguard with, and key can be useful for good damage or a long-range punish.

Vs Mega Man, catch as many of his metal blades as possible and use them against him.

As for Sonic, you did a few things in this MU that I like: placing a trampoline near the edge and staying behind it makes it hard for Sonic to rush you down and create pressure. If he decides not to challenge you at all, that's fine. That's an opportunity to charge your fruit (which tanks his homing attack attempts, by the way!) and check their spin-dash attempts with them. You also punished his spring - dair retreat a few times, too. Good! Do more of that.

As for Zelda, bait and punish her Nayru's Love. Place a trampoline in front of you to check her Farore's Wind if that move bugs you; she can't 'port over it and instead will be popped up mid-travel if she travels along the ground. Those 2 things are literally how you ate all that damage on your last stock and I was waiting for you to punish it somehow ><

As for Ryu, use Side B's pellet to block his hadoukens. They heal 2% per. Trampoline here is good too to make it hard for Ryu to get in and deal his damage.

One last thing: see if you can get any mileage out of bonus fruit charge cancelling; it can bait some sort of reaction from your opponent and keep them guessing as to when you'll actually toss it. That's what I like doing anyway!

It's hard to choose since we all have different ways of fighting sonic.

But I guess some are more successful than others
And that's totally fine. Which is your PERSONAL favorite, though?

As a Mega Man Main myself, that I disagree with. Most Mega Man players will want you to catch the Metal Blade, it deprives you of all your standard attacks and limits your options, and he is free to punish you with almost anything. Unless Mega Man is offstage, you should almost never try to grab his metal blades, ever, its a trap. Its kind of hard to advise on grabbing almost any character spawned item in general because of that since its high risk, low reward bait; , besides maybe Junior's Mechakoopas, Diddy's Banana, or Peach if she pulls a Bo-omb or Mr.Saturn.

You can't even use it against him anyway. This Mega Man was running the skull barrier custom so he could still reflect it and my others back if I try to use them. He doesn't even need Skull Barrier to deal with Metal Blades, he can just destroy it and many other projectiles with lemons. The rest of your advice I agree with, thx.

If I was holding a metal blade with the lead, I would sit back behind a trampoline and pellet shield all your pellets and crash bombs.
We could also z drop and recatch the blade with an attack to attack without having to give it up.

Edit: I vote for BSP. He plays the matchup very well even though he could work on his killing.

My last tournament video, it was played last weekend:

Awesome play dude. Is the Shiek matchup feeling easier for you?

I know Diddy is fine :p

I finally got around to getting these.
BSP (Pac-Man) vs Bman1K (Sonic) X ; sometime in August. I don't remember the exact date.

I need to use cherry, strawberry, and orange more to put additional hitboxes out + make my fruit game less predictable. Once I get that down, I need to get better at landing bells for the KO.
That's the same advice I would give to you. Make sure you practice those bellhop kill confirms. Killing at 50 is invaluable lol

I'm pulling bellhop combos off against AI dummies pretty well. I'll go for some today.

I need to use more orange vs Rosalina. Other than that, my game is solid vs her IMO.

hey everyone, I thought i'd share some videos i uploaded that involved me fighting Mario and Roy (2 matchups i hate). There isn't enough footage of these matchups so I thought I'd upload matches where i figured i do things right in the matchup.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EREoCWBl0CU

my opponent is very seasoned against pac-man, so i think these matches are really good for fighting an aggro character who knows pac-man.

enjoy!

Anymore matches with Dee? His skill with galaga is insane.

I recommend periodically checking SHIG in general.

Once again @everyone, I suggest you watch Dee's gameplay. You'll probably learn something.

Edit: and again: even though it's wifi, these league tournaments have players like Earth and taratino in them, serious offline contenders.

https://youtu.be/mnLSi4UR5FU?t=1518 ..........wow, Dee is the best. Period.

Edit: One thing I'm not seeing Dee do that might help is SH Uair and RAR SH Uair in order to challenge Greninja in the air more. He was somewhat letting Some have free reign in the air, but we have a wide sweeping aerial with good range to contest people in the air. Pac-Man can also do basically anything before he touches the ground from the first SH Uair, including another Uair. Overall, the commitment is pretty low for the coverage offered.

Other than that, galaxian combos from the ledge are flat out DEVASTATING. You can get an easy 32% from galaxian -> Nair > Jab 1 -> Galaxian (knocks them towards ledge, ending the string).

If you do it properly, you get all of that mentioned above + Fair -> Nair -> Fair -> Nair --> psychologically devastated opponent that took 40%+ in less than 2 seconds.

Yeah he's truly amazing, hes easily the best pac out there right now, I learned so much from him. I noticed he plays a more ground based Pac-man too and opts to use it as a shield rather than as a free hitbox.

I learned that from Abadango a while ago. It's a true combo and kills lightweights at around 60 that can be secured with improper DI (and only improves with rage).

Participated in a online tourney (as Deadpool2020) that I unfortunately had to leave mid-tourney. I had 3 matches on stream.

vs Blueberrykilla5
:4pacman: vs :4mario:,:4samus:

vs Kutzvanhulst
:4pacman: vs :4palutena:,:rosalina:

vs ItalianGamer81
:4pacman: vs :4bowser:,:4fox:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4GVou5dkIs
vs :4samus: at 5:43 on video was a neat pressure. I noticed you never pellet shielded against samus though. Your up-smash follow ups are good!
vs :4bowser: at 3:53, that set up is impressive! vs:4fox:, I saw that twice you hit with a hydrant offstage, then tried to follow up with an orange, but it looked like you could have had charged up an orange before hand and hit them after the hydrant.
Also nice 2 stocks, and nice pressure.
