Although being well known certainly helps, a lot of the people posting on here are knowledgable of tournament players, therefore it would not be fair to assume that people are merely putting names because they 'like that player.' Although I'm sure some people have posted just because thats who they know, the whole system balances itself out because the knowledgable posters are sure to put down the names of the best mainers in each character.

I think people should be required to list the players as ranks, that is if you're taking different points for each rank. If it's just based on overall votes, and each time a player is mentioned they just get 1 vote, then w/e.

I think that creates too much regional bias.

"Blah is better because he's from my region and I go to his house every weekend".

Good players are well-known as good players. Top players are known to pretty much everyone who goes to tourneys. So, it has always been a popularity contest: the best players are the most popular the majority of the time, and in this thread, which is about the order of best players for each character, serves its purpose by first getting good mainers' names, then ordering them from best to worst.
