Hey guys, I've been wanting to make a thread about this for quite some time. Basically my question is just this, what is it that compels you to main Ganondorf? I'll list a few of the possible reasons.

1. You just like him / he is badass.
2. It's too easy to win with anyone else.
3. It takes more skill to win with Ganondorf, thus feeling better to win.
4. Proving that Ganondorf is a viable character to play as.
5. You like his style of play.

For me it's a combination of of all 5. Hes a badass guy. I main Wolf and find it too easy to win with him, so I like to switch it up between Wolf and Ganondorf. Winning with Ganondorf really rocks especially when your playing someone who owns Ganondorf (everyone). I guess number 4 is only a little bit a reason why I play him. And finally, I like his kind of, 4 or 5 big tank hits for the KO style of gameplay.

If you have a different reason as to why, please state it.

1, 4, 5.

He doesn't even need his sword...that is how badass he is.

But I like his style of punishing mistakes, it suits me, and it is fun to prove it is viable to play as.

put me down for all 5.

personally its how unforgiving he is. I like how if you make a mistake against ganondorf you punished so hard, against most characters u just take an extra hit, or at the most a combo. With ganon its pretty much a stock.

These were the reasons of why he was my second main (behind Falco).

4. Proving that Ganondorf is a viable character to play as.
These are the reasons of why i recently decided to pick him as my main : His BOttom Tier "position".

because he's the only character in the game as ballin as I am?

I just picked him up to mix up my playing style. I usually play neutral characters like luigi, with no great advantages or disadvantages, but when i tried ganondorf I liked the style and stuck with it. Now it's fun to surprise people with a good ganon.

He mother ****in Ganondorf that's why. He is one of my few respected Nintendo villains for actually being evil. Bowser has become comedic relief more often then not now but Ganondorf stays true to kicking *** and taking names.

In game I play as him really for a combination of the 5. Call me a scrub or anything you want, but I'm not a big MK or Snake fan. Sure, at least Snake is hella fun to play as with his unique moveset, but he and MK aren't that hard to use and have a huge payoff. I feel satisfied when I win with GDorf.

I like the "Oh, a Ganondorf player- No problem." look on a player's face before the match. Then the "Holy crap, I just lost to a Ganondorf!" look afterwards.

It's my goal to win a tournament as Ganon. It's nothing special if one of the 16 Metaknights, 15 Pits, and 12 Ikes win. But a Ganon? Beast.

I like attacking their weak point for massive damage.

No, really. It seems he really rewards prediction; that feels great.

Also the badassness + expressive taunts. And now, the fact that I can exclaim MURDER __ whenever I land any attack. :chuckle:

All except for #4. Winning with Ganon is so rewarding and crushing to you're foe. However I find it rather hard to punish G&W, I predict his moves early and dodge them yet he seems to be able to land a second attack before my counter:mad:!

Definitely the style of play, I don't really consider certain characters hard to play overall. My view is that each person has characters that just match their style better then others. One should find that special character and stick with them no matter what others judge their power to be. Just look at mango and gimpy in melee they both choose to play characters normally thought before they played them to be weak. This just goes to show you that every character has their strengths and weaknesses and, that you should play with the character that suits your style best. I really don't think it takes more skill with him or that he is weak, I think though that his style is definitely a more of a specialist style making him less suited for most people tastes.

Playing melee and smash ultimate
1. You just like him / he is badass.
Eh, sorta, but not really.

2. It's too easy to win with anyone else.
Somehow I'm better with ganon than I am with any other character in the game, so no. Actually, I just don't like anyone else enough to get good with them, so meh. I dislike metaknight because he's boring to play, not because he's too good. I played fox in melee, after all.

3. It takes more skill to win with Ganondorf, thus feeling better to win.
Sure. Why not?

4. Proving that Ganondorf is a viable character to play as.
I recognize that ganon sucks. I don't play to prove anything but myself.

5. You like his style of play.
FINALLY SOMETHING I CAN FULLY AGREE WITH.

I started playing ganon because brawl bored me. I hated brawl for a while, and played only FFAs with random characters. I started liking ganon, and tried him in a few singles matches. I didn't care that he was probably bottom tier, and simply found him fun to play. The more I played him, the more I liked the character, and now ganon has become my main. There's also the bonus of "you just got beat by a ganon" for when you win. Ganon rewards smart play and good prediction, which I like.

Because he screams "AAAAAAAAYYYYYYYAAAAAA" and makes this massive purple punch whenever I accidently hit neutral B?

Pretty much the same theme of everyone else. I like how he moves, how i have to think to counteract other more common characters. The fact that one mistakes means 50+% Dmg. I love that hes not a common character. People understimate him and then get curb stomped.

Because he's not meta but he fits my style. Power is more fun than speed imo.

Like you, I main a different character but find it to be too easy at times. Ganon is a nice change of pace for this. I like to see how far I can go with him even though he is terrible. Winning with Ganon against a skilled character/player combo is a great feeling.

He's also just a hell lot of fun to play.

Your all wrong, Its because he's HNNNNNNNNGANONDORF! And he has an epic Facegrab of doom. This is not to be mistaken for badass, as HNNNNNNGANONDORF! Is in his own league. Therefor, his type of awesomeness is categorized as HNNNNNNGANONDORF Tier.

I decided I was going to main falcon in brawl, and second ddd. Then, I played Ganon and realized
"oh my god this is awesome everyone is afraid of my power I'm Ganondorf."

so now I second Ganon.

Reasons 1, 4, and 5. He has been my favorite character since melee, and I've always loved his play style from both brawl and melee. So much power...it's great.

1 and 5....

He's my favorite character since he appeared in OOT

And i dont really care if hes low tier or whatever

I like his playing style as well kinda (combo + power based but i dont like his defensive style)

since im used to playing as those types in other Fighting games

(Kazuya, Brian Fury, Ralf & Clark, Ryu, Sentinel etc.)

His style is more observing instead of just rushing in and attack like crazy. Also, he shows the sage's sword and doesn't even use it... CAUSE HE KNOWS HE DOESN'T EVEN NEED IT!

Ganon is my second main as well. Snake is my first but I always use ganon or capt falcon.

I'm thinking about maining him, so sure. I'll pitch in.

Style of play easy. One of the reasons I liked Link for a while was the ability to Dair above them and make them regret ever going near your feet. But something about the rest of his attacks were underwhelming. I played Cap alot in Melee due to his Dair/Kneesmash having that 'oomph', but they never really fit me.

Something about Ganondorf in Brawl seemed to hit all the right buttons though. I wish they would make his Utilt a bit less silly but he's a fantastic character and Flame Choke gave me the kind of movement/overrriding shield technique I needed to solidify him.

I play ROB too, but something about the Dorf is just satisfying.

It initially started with 4. As I was trying to show that skill mattered 100X more than tier. But now its a combo of 1,4, and 5.

Because anytime you KO ANYONE with Ganondorf, it looks brutal as hell.

Because when you are at least +1 stock above your opponent, nothing says "EF U" to a gimpy player like giving them a taste of their own medicine with a good old fashioned Ganoncide, landing in mid-gimp attempt. 8-)

Yeah nothing is funnier than killing both of you at the same time, while he's at 14% and you're at 120%.

I'd say for reasons 1 and 5.
#1 He's a friggin dark magic brawler, how can that not be badass?
#5 I'm not really sure why I just like the sense of power he gives when he nails someone and punishes predictability hardcore.

I was actually considering dropping G-Dorf until I played a friend and right at the beginning I got him in a series of techchases resulting in 0 to death, ending with an Utilt hitting him before he secured the ledge .

Plus his Dair is smexy.

Also forgot, Ganondorf dittos are the funnest/shortest things ever.

It just feels ... right. And he's a ****ing tank of a man, brutally screaming and punching/stomping his opponent's face in. That's enough for me to main him.

I main him for pretty much all of the 5 reasons.

Practically every move he has is a kill move or sets the person up for a kill move (murder choke to d-tilt). I mained him in melee and knew I had to main him again in brawl. Who can resist a lagless stomp that can be spammed and kills below 100%? He's got so much potential and really shows how skilled you are when you beat one of the top tiers. Also my friend mains Link so we have good oldschool battles between the power and courage.

All five, really. Alls I have to say is... THE POWER! THE POOWWWEERRR! Yes, he is an absolutely made of win, just play a Zelda game and tell me he isn't!

I find Ganondorf to be hard to win with, yes, because in the past I either got in first or I got in maybe third but that's why I train with him so I can get better. Now I normally get first place with him unless someone is playing as my weakness characters. (Marth or Diddy)

Yes, I like his playing style too because being a small and skinny kid I like to play as a BA looking dark lord from the desert with magical powers. I've learned to throw his weight around and effectively destroy opponents online, I especially love taking down noobs with him because I get to laugh evilly. :D

Ganon kinda has the Bowser effect in Melee going for him. Not particularly a very good character to win tourneys with, but really, really fun to play. Ganoncides are awesome. :D
