I think someone said that Melee would've been E10+ if it existed back then.
What difference is there in adult content between Melee and Brawl?

The cutscene with
Ridley
is a little on the violent side as well. And I guess Subspace Emissary might be a little intense for the younger audience
watching their favourite characters get beaten on or turned into trophies
.

Don't you think this is a very bad PR move for Nintendo?
More food to feed Jack Thompson.

"And even little Pikachu from Pokemon is in a game that is rated for Teens!"

i would have to say the subspace emissary is probably to blame for the T rating. the content is very suspenseful at points for younger viewers, so that's probably it.

"To top off this horrid excuse of not-so-much-a-game-as-a-means-of-rotting-children's-minds, homosexuality is rampant through the game." *Thompson shows a short video of one pikachu walking up behind another pikachu who begins crawling*

LOL! you think the ESRB was invented AFTER melee?

also you are all wrong, Melee was rated T for teen, check wikipedia if you don't believe me

or the ESRB home site for chrissake

for comic mischief and mild violence.

This was a hot topic when much more explicit games were getting E for everone ratings like SSX Tricky getting and E for Everyone. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Fighting almost always = T for Teen. Don' t you know Violence is more dangerous than sex kids? ;)

What we need is an M for Mature option where everyone's bodies explode after going out of the ring :D
Where's that R-Rated Peach when you need her?

Still, why is this bad? Melee was 11/12+ here in UK. If Nintendo can get in trouble for making a Teen rated game, then Rockstar may as well be bankrupt.

And Nintendo are even more stubborn than Rockstar, if that's even imaginable.

Employee: "Sir, I really think we should put Kid Icarus, F-Zero and a new Pikmin game on Wii.

Nintendo: "NO! MOAR WII CHESS AND WII PLAY AND WII FIT AND BRAIN TRAINING."

Employee:

He meant the E10+ rating....

The E10+ rating wasn't around when Melee came out. Not the ESRB haha

You should read a person's post before you flame them.

Yeah, even though they released San Andreas with the removed Hot Coffee thing.

So they release a game where you go around stealing cars, acting like a criminal, killing people... and they remove something that belongs to Human Nature?

well CLEARLY then.... ;) I'm sure Serbia will give it another E+10 then, or maybe they won't, but I'm sure in the grand scheme of thing that's not going to effect sales to much on account of it being T in Serbia.

I personally think it should have gotten an E+10 rating too. The "crude humor" "violence" from what I've seen (I'm not going to mention spoilers) is not worth a T rating. There is no animated blood or cursing. Not even "****" at least....I think not.

Teen does not equal "adult content".
Nintendo probably just rated it "T" to make it more popular. As was Melee's case.
Crude Humor = Wario's flatulence. Snake and Fox's rumps.
Cartoon Violence = Bowser nibbling on Pikachu's head.

BTW, Brawl is rated "Everyone" in Japan.

Having the game rated Teen is only going to help Nintendo. The T rating goes a long way in getting older audiences interested in the game, when otherwise they might pass if it was simply E.

Nintendo also realizes that many parents are going to see Mario, Pikachu, etc on the cover and buy it for their kids anyways. Even if they don't, legally, a storeclerk can sell a 5 year old a teen game. Its not too much to worry about for Nintendo.

hmm, Nintendo doesn't rate the games, but I know what you mean.

also, I'm an adult gamer, and I don't even look at ratings, but I also know what you mean, and many do (for some reason)
