Why would people try to get out of a wobble? (serious topic)

i want to understand the psychology behind this. whenever i play friendlies i leave my buttons untouched but when its getting serious i try to mash out as hard as i can. however the physics in this game are unforgiving and the result stays the same no matter which way you choose: you lose a stock.

There is a point where mashing no longer accomplishes anything. Wobbling works such that you are never at a point where the game checks to see if you can escape the grab by keeping you in hitstun at all times. If there's ever a point where there's a gap in the hitstun, you'll be released whether you've mashed 100% or 50000% of the mashing threshold.

That's cool to know, actually. So you just have to fill up your "release meter," then kick back and relax?

the moment he retired from smash he resigned from his divine powers aswell. only someone with a true smasher heart can hold on to them. he ist still beyond everyone else even though he was kinda rusty. in a best of 5 set he would have brought it back and cleanily swept those guys 3-0 because this would be all it takes for armada to derust.

This. After a few seconds of mashing people should stop killing their controllers and just wait to see if the IC player messes up. Watching PP's mashing was pretty hilarious though.

Basically:
Seconds 1-5: have violent hand-seizures
After that: sit back, cross your fingers, and hope.

Intimidation factor. I mash super hard and stare at my opponent so that they worry I may somehow get out of a perfectly executed wobble. Then they choke. PP seemed to have his mashing down, but his death stare was embarrassing. He wasn't even looking towards Wobbles, let alone screaming and blowing in his ear. He needs to take some notes from Hbox who is the only top player that seems to have a decent out-of-Melee metagame (controller peeking).

After you've reached this "mashing threshold" can you still smash DI the final hit? Would it be beneficial to "roll" the control stick between -up- and -up and toward the character- to try to register an input right when you get hit? Not sure how inputs work exactly.

Doesn't the threshold increase as your % does though?

While you're mashing, try to put your opponent on tilt IRL. Stare at them, talk to them, etc. If you know what emotions they respond to, you can make the wobble really awkward for them and possible make them drop a wobble or two. This method may be frowned on, but its not against the rules :)

Wobbles was leaning forward the whole match. Had PP performed the death stare, it would have been out of Wobbles's line of vision.
